  1. Can an Arsenal fan side (argumentally at least) with the scousers on here Annasfield - what can I say.. .I know how you feel. But just think how much duller the place would be without you. Don't let it get you down After the Liverpool v Arsenal game I thought Keef and Annasfield were the model of good behaviour. they COULD have enjoyed a right old dig at us defeated gooners but had a bit more tact than this (very recent!) quote from Atila Anyway Liverpool are from from out of it - remember it was 1-1 in teh Arsenal game but one goal from Arsenal and it suddenly looked very dodgy for Liverpool - I predict the same against Chelsea next week.
  2. I wasn't planning on jousting - but thanks for the compliment ;-)
  3. Now that sounds like a day out - who is going to organise it for next year?
  4. but what I'm saying Atila is that apart from some people who WANT to feel besieged and indignant about being made to feel ashamed... I'm just not seeing anyone who is actually ashamed Everyone seems to be out and about enjoying themselves. or in my office working.. some with flags some without. In short I'm saying most of this feeling of "one rule for others" is imaginary
  5. PGC - how brave of you to even think of calling DM a dragon!! 'tis a shame I now have to strike you down.. I liked you and all ;-)
  6. in a strange parallel debate: http://forums.mirror.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=1186141 I think "snookerballs" could be Atila in disguise
  7. Atila: You and Lizzy are upset about bosses asking people to not display the George flag today. I am merely offering to step in and arbitrate It COULD be that there isn't much of this happening but then that would undermine your arguments....
  8. I self-edited because I realised after posting that Atila was never going to read much less digest and argue it's points back (I'm open to you showing me wrong on that front Atila) I can always post it up again afterwards - but I'll let everyone who wants to enjoy St Georges Day first ;-) It felt more like an argument for the Enemies of Reason thread than this one anyway. But I make this claim: Anyone who is having problems with their work not allowing the flag - put the names and numbers of teh manager in question up and I (and anyone who wants to help me) will ring them and "straighten things out" - how's that for an offer?
  9. Atila - noooo. Please don't jump on the PC bandwagon. I've already highlighted the Paddy's day thing. None of them matter - made up the lot of them. Have a party or don't - no-one is saying you can't
  10. I used to think that was a joke. I have witnessed no evidence to suggest it isn't a joke and yet these days I am more inclined to believe you ;-)
  11. or any other patron saint for that matter - let's not pick on poor St George If people are up for a party on Patricks or any other day then by all means have one on St George's day :)-D
  12. I have Friday off.... mwah ha ha. I plan to make it tomorrow night at some point - even if it's VERY late tonight - 8ish?
  13. blimey Kel - longest KK post ever??
  14. Grabot - you have a point there - but as a rule of thumb if the Administrator hasn't lounged it I think of it as still being within the pale and normally resurrect it (I just did one for the Inside 72 thread) of course now that means neither of our last posts have been about CC fraud....
  15. bumping this to see if anyone IS coming to 72 tonight - tomorrow is it's last ever night but I am otherwise engaged Brendan has expressed an interest - Quids has been personally invited - anyone else? Come on.. don't let this place go without one last bev
  16. kford - as people who know me will testify - all of 'em! Let me think.. I can honestly say I have put my card regularly behind all of them except Mag and Vale - and then only because I rarely stop that long in those places
  17. Since ever isn't it? I don't know anyone who has paid
  18. the "battyboy" comments have made me all nostalgic - I used to get that all the time in East London. Sign of getting old I suppose Strawbs: sound like an unfortunate situation. I've left places before but not been in the situation you describe. I have friends in GH who say the love it and have never had problems but if you one is unlucky enough to end up in a street with anti-social neighbours it can turn you off a whole area best of luck with any move you do make. You could always come alongto the next forum drink up and meet several of people from the forum - many of whom live in different neighbourhoods. Compare notes and that...
  19. I keep 2 cards - one with a very small limit for use in shops and so on and one with a larger limit for emergencies I use the small one most days up and down the Lane and not once ever had a problem - luck seems to be on my side again. PLus I don't buy petrol which seems to figure prominently The search function by the way is useful - if people see multiple threads on teh same subject they tend not to be read as widely as a single thread with all the information contained on it - so not only is it useful for those reading but it helps people like you who want to raise awareness
  20. I would be amazed if this thread didn't get several horror stories from those living in ED and or near Peckham. Not because they are especially bad areas but as Mike P says, there is no part of London which isn't affected by crime of some sort. Even within areas - Gypsy Hill, East Dulwich etc there are good and bad parts. It is conceivable on a Gypsy Hill forum that someone living in ED has had a run of burglaries and muggings and has had enough and is asking GH residents what it's like ALL THAT SAID This is a topic that has cropped up many a time on here and I still say that pound for pound, ED is the safest place I have lived. And that includes rural Ireland and Devon as well as several other parts of London. I have been here seven years and like dave-carnell regularly walk through ED & Peckham often at night and never, not once had a problem. I'm not saying there are no problems - justa bit of street smarts and basic odds should see you fine. You mention "run-ins" with crackheads - not sure if that means muggings, being robbed or just keep running into them. Simply moving won't stop you runninginto or seeing these people regularly- but then you say you go out in ED quite a lot so you are probably aware of how things pan out in the evenings here too
  21. I hope Admin is watching and learning - quite a good moderator in the making here. And she has plenty of spare time....
  22. With only 6 or so posts to his or her name this pongo person is already impressing with some fine wit
  23. everything Brendan said! Except the Britpop era came later and wouldn't have overlapped. But the first 2 Pixies albums are fantastic. Never "got" the Stone Roses either. In fact bands that I'm "meant" to like generally put me off
  24. Agree with the Harry Hill - several comedy nights have been ruined by the announcement "and now a special surprise guest...." Mighty Boosh - I would have once agree but now I LOVE them.
