  1. Your comments regarding preservation of the ecosystem/environment are not really related to my point. It is possible to care about such things while also recognising the painfully obvious point that the life of a human and a fox cannot be considered equal.
  2. Blah blah... this is a schoolboy debate. Clearly its natural to empathise and value members of your own species. You don't measure importance of individual life based on impact to the ecosystem. Otherwise we may as well all kill ourselves now.

  4. Why not view it through a nice telescope, or failing that a magnifying glass, to observe it in all its glory.

Which seems perfectly sensible, and is not quite the same as the blanket 20mph limit people seem to be discussing.

Very similar story here... parents from very near that area. But not sure it was a case of "can't afford" to live there, more the desire for somewhere more green/clean/safe/family-friendly (or what passed for family-friendly in the 70s).

Get that chip off your shoulder, Louisa! The reality is that all your working class salt-of-the-earth buddies sold out and moved to Kent, leaving you behind!

But MrBen, the blow-outs are salt-of-the-earth and culturally diverse, who are simply making the best of their lot! The hot tub is a necessary requirement to soothe their aching bones after years of hard graft. Not like those nasty blow-ins who intentionally displace the true Londoners, take over neighbourhoods, and have the bare-faced cheek to work in an office, have families, and decorate their houses!

  12. Flight to Zurich for Snorky. Say hi to Liz and Phil for me.
  13. Won't someone think of the children!!
  14. Surprised there's not some chemical you can buy which will just kill the stuff.
  15. I sometimes wonder what this thread would look like if everyone was a bit more honest. Yeah I know Mcluksy had a reunion, but it's just a load of noise. Iron & Wine? Who? I'd forgotten how good "Slippery When Wet" really is

  17. I've been hassled by a few dodgy guys asking for money over the years, I don't think this is the new phenomenon that some people think. In particular, there was one guy hanging around about 10 years ago with a line of staples in his neck, begging very persisently/aggressively.
  18. I remember ages ago eating at Ganapati and thinking that the meat was tough, sauces were watery, everything was too expensive, and that I wouldn't bother again. But then when the takeaway opened we gave it a go... and I was converted. We now order from there regularly.
  19. What exactly does "in keeping with neighbouring houses" mean, though? Does it mean that new developments should be in a mock-Victorian style? Can you show us some examples of good planning, where new developments have been sympathetic to existing period housing?

  21. Nandos is nothing special, just chicken in a spicy marinade, and chips. But I like chicken and chips.
  22. Tandoori Nights used to be good.. going back ten years or so, the food was very aromatic and flavoursome, without the huge amounts of oil. Then the last time I went, it was as Fox describes. Small pieces of uniform meat in a sweep soupy sauce. I would give it another go, but eating dinner out is such a rarity these days, I'd prefer not to take a punt. Dulwich Tandoori is our regular for an "old-school" curry and is always pretty good.
  23. Harvester do all-you-can eat breakfast for ?4.99. Including hot items and "continental". If you play it right, it fills you up until dinner time and then some.
  24. The original subject had limited potential...
  25. It's fine. I guess some people don't stay that long because they need more space (lots of the houses are very small). But personally I'd rather have one of those than a two bed flat.
