There isn't much to "work out", fox. It's a takeaway. You phone up to order your food, then you can either have it delivered, or pick up in person. There's a table to "eat in" should you wish, but I never have.

Settle an argument - was there a Costa in Peckham before?!

Sad to hear about viva... it was our favourite spot for weekend breakfasts. -
In defence of Fox, the first time I went to Ganapati, my thoughts were similar... very underwhelming "street food selection" starter, tough meat, salty-yet-bland sauce, expensive. But have been back (eat-in occasionally, takeaway frequently) and always really enjoyed pretty much every other meal since. And I've also come across several Indian people who really rate it - authenticity is not everything, but nevertheless it's a reassuring endorsement. I suppose restaurants can have a bad day (or a bad dish). But I still avoid the starter selection!

I don't like the way they mash up the meat before putting it in the bun. Would rather have a couple of decent slices of meat...

FWIW I like peck Plex, and think it's good value. But the screen quality is not a patch on the picturehouse. And I've also experienced kids talking throughout (more mainstream) films.

But why would they want to stay in the UK? If we lose access to EU markets, then what's the benefit of staying in London? UK is small fry in comparison. And by moving to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, they'd have access to the best talent from across the EU.

So pizza pickup is open now? Will definitely try it. Looks like the new ali baba juice place by PR station is closed already.. not seen it open since before Christmas.

The going home for the weekend song thread...come on you groovey foookers

Hmmm... it IS a catchy tune, but I never really bought their transition from bubblegum punk-pop to pseudo-socially conscious stadium rock. It all seemed a bit stale and contrived. And they starting wearing eyeliner!! Not ashamed to admit I was a fan of the first few albums though. -

Seems apt for Trump's inauguration (as well as what's happening over here with May and Brexit) -
A Swedish friend told me something similar... that ostentatious displays of wealth are seen as vulgar and tasteless. But then, when we went over there for his wedding, nice cars (Audi, Mercedes, etc) were everywhere. Wealthy country I guess. And there was a McLaren dealership over the road from our flat..

Have you appealed the application, Paula? -
I once offered some furniture in exchange for booze. They turned up with a box of dodgy looking pound-shop chocolates, saying alcohol was against their religion.

Yep disparity is inevitable in a capitalist system, but the earnings of the super-rich do not bother me at all as long as they pay their tax (a huge caveat of course... I'm talking ideologically). What should concern us is quality of life for the poor and vulnerable, and ensuring there is no "cycle of poverty". Medieval headwear sounds good though.

It's a small space, some of the tables are a bit tight. If you want opulent comfort then it's not the place to go, but the food is very good.. one of the best restaurants for miles around.

If the industrial action really is over - for any significant length of time - then that is of course excellent news. But I am cynical... and even in the best case scenario, it is still some way off the 6-train-per-hour peak service we had a couple of years ago.

rendelharris Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don't think anywhere above I've said I want capitalism destroyed, have I? Well the discussion seemed to start with you paraphrasing Marx, comparing capitalism with feudalism. My answer was that mobility is a fundamental difference, and that capitalism itself isn't bad provided certain mechanisms are put in place. So I guess we've kind of come to an agreement...

Rendel, seems to me that you're arguing for better social justice, higher taxation for the rich, etc. So that's what I'd call social democracy - and it is entirely compatible with a capitalist system.

rendelharris Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yes, so in theory everyone can reach the top...do > you really see much sign of that in practice? Not sure about "the top", but I know many people from very modest backgrounds who have done very well for themselves. Although I will concede that my generation were lucky (free university education and grants, booming economy when we finished education). Times are harder now, but fundamentally I believe social mobility can work very well within a capitalist framework. But there are measures that need to be put into place - good, free education for all, adequate welfare, etc. (socialism is not the only way to provide these btw).

And Karl Marx might have had a point in 1850 or whatever. I think social mobility improved somewhat during the 1900s.

What's Happening on Crawthew Grove Project?

Well the owner's identity is common knowledge, and he's easy enough to contact via Twitter or whatever. If I was a concerned neighbour, I'd probably try to ask him directly... -

He used to post occasional updates on Instagram (I don't use it, but I know people who follow him on there). I think he excavated several metres down to build an underground swimming pool! But this was years ago.. don't know why progress has stalled. But am quite confident that finances aren't an issue. -

As long as you actually like the band! I prefer plain ones with just the name/logo on it though, don't like ones with tour dates or stupid pictures on them.
