His iPhone isn't going to last long round here, is it?

My experience of freeview with an internal aerial round here is not good... lots of unavailable stations, breakups, blips and squeaks. It's probably worth a try though - you can always return it if it's no good.

SURPRISE SOMEONE SPECIAL WITH A HOLLYWOOD TREAT....
Jeremy replied to JessicaA's topic in The Lounge
I nominate woodrot, for his cat search-and-rescue volunteering. And he'll look real nice after the teeth whitening and botox. -
I'd also agree with Loz, more or less. I ski, and have done a little bit of snowboarding. The first week of snowboarding is tough. You have to be resilient to falling over repeatedly, very hard, on your arse. It helps a lot if you're physically fit and flexible, because you'll have to do a lot of scooting along, getting up off the ground, and bending down to fasten/unfasten your bindings. Skiing is much easier to pick up, and by the end of the first week you should be confident building up a bit of speed, whizzing past the snowboard class. I prefer skiing, but if you're willing to persevere and have an interest in off-piste or freestyle, snowboarding could be the one to go for.

The Sainsbury's duty manager has said "nothing has been reported recently". There are two possibilities - either the duty manager is lying, or peope have genuinely failed to report these crimes. Perhaps some of the victims can fill us in?

Who is the administrator and why is it impossible to get in touch with them?!

I'm sure he's quaking in his boots. As others have said (but you apparently chose to ignore), he's just a guy doing this for free, he owes you zilch. -

It's supposed to contain tomatillos, but I have no idea where to get them. Maybe adding a squeeze of lime or a couple of gooseberries into the sauce give you the required tartness.

I know exactly what you mean... but I don't really agree with it!

A great meat dish to freeze is chilli verde - a spicy pork stew. Fry onions with garlic and plenty of chopped chillis, chilli powder, pepper, cumin. Add chicken stock, sliced green peppers, oregano, coriander... simmer until peppers are soft. Blend sauce until smooth Fry chunks of pork shoulder, add to the sauce. Cook in a casserole dish for a couple of hours. Good with rice, or even better as a taco/burrito/enchilada filling.

Alan Medic Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > To discuss God, unlike a frog, is very difficult > as you may all be using a three lettered word to > describe your concept of what that means and > therefore talk at cross purposes. But this discussion is in the context of Christianity (or particular strands of it), where the concept of "God" is pretty well defined. If you do choose to engage in conversation with these people who insist on disturbing you in your own home, it is not unreasonable to explain politely why you don't share their beliefs. Despite the fact that it will probably be like banging your head against a wall. > As for proving his existence? Well, chances are if > he/she/it is there, it's not our brain which is > going to recognise him/her/it. Those sorts of crypticisms are probably better continued in the "is there a god?" thread!

Hence the OP stating "most loved business in category". But hey... let's continue to slag off a great local business and accuse them of making stuff up. Just for fun.

So again I > think his reasoning is flawed. I don't think he used that argument to disprove anything, just to explain how religion became so embedded in our culture. I actually think that logical flaws in his arguments are very rare. His points are often simplistic and obvious, but I don't think it takes particularly sophisticated thinking to argue against something that doesn't have a shred of evidence. But yes, it is hard to argue against somebody who has an unflinching belief in something, just because someone told them it's true. It's almost certainly a waste of your time. Just shutting the door is probably more effective. Or, sadly, as KK says, just don't open it at all.

Parking in front of driveway - no dropped curb
Jeremy replied to sfmrs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I know it's pretty unneighbourly to build a driveway even if you've been refused permission for a dropped kerb, but if you intentionally block somebody's car in, then you're just being a complete dick. If the driveway is empty, then I guess it's understandable if there's nowhere else to park nearby. -
It bothers me. It bothers me that they try to push their absurd opinions onto other people. It bothers me that they think I might be stupid enough to be convinced by their claptrap and non-existent reasoning. And it bothers me that even though they must know they are an unwelcome annoyance, they still continue to waste people's time. I don't believe they have good intentions, if you do something for brownie points then it's ultimately self serving.

Tourist attraction? Spot the odd one out: The Tate Modern, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, St Pauls Cathedral, old house on the south circular.

Yeah that's basically what she said - she thought it was analogous to the relationship a dog or cat has with it's owner. Maybe they didn't mind living in a small cage for 99% of the time.
-
A friend of mine back at uni had two of them. She swore that they were much more intelligent that other rodents... she kept them in a cage in her bedroom, and would often get them out and let them scamper around. They never seemed to try to run away, which for me kind of disproved their supposed intelligence.

Huguenot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > you cannot escape the symbology > associated with little books of hate. Wasn't the cardboard book thing supposed to be an ironic poke at our perceived differences? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's sophisticated or insightful, but I don't see the hatred there. I can understand the PA-in-a-truck getting on peoples nerves though.

To be honest I wouldn't personally listen to S&R, but it really does surprise me that people are so quick to criticise what they're doing with such venom. I kind of hope that in a few years time, I'll be a middle-aged dad making music and embarrassing my kids too. And I'm a little baffled by Huguenot's accusations. If the point they're making is that racial segregation is worsening due to white middle classes leaving the cities... maybe you don't agree with that, but there are better ways to discuss it than silly taunts of nazism.

Yep, Rees had a great start. But great fighters know how to adjust to their opponent, and change tactics. Think it's fair to say that Rees has found his level, but hopefully he can pull himself together and we'll see him string together some more decent wins and brit/euro level.

Every single day we see stories in the news which are only there because they involve a celebrity. That's not going to change any day soon. Believe me I loathe celebrity culture as much as ayone, but Oscar is a guy who's acheived a hell of a lot, so to describe him as a mere "celebrity" is doing him a disservice. IMO this is more newsworthy than the Kate/William wedding by some significant margin, let alone anything the Beckhams get up to. The thing that does annoy me about the coverage is the repeated reference to her as his "model girlfriend", which is just pure sensationalism.
