  1. I think this will be even more one-sided than Hatton/Mayweather. Still, Rees is a plucky little guy and I hope he gives a good account of himself.
  2. And before I'm accused of sexism... Peter Andre did OK out of his marriage to Jordan. Ditto Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. It's not only women who can use their more famous other half to boost their career.
  3. woodrot... you've changed, man.

I did not say she wasn't sucessful, but I don't think it would be controversial to doubt her musical talent during her time with the Spice Girls. Did she write anything? Did she sing the lead on any of the songs? Was she even audible on any of the singles? I seem to remember she just strutted around and pulled faces. > She now has two successful fashion > labels and her fashion collections have won > critical acclaim You're right fashion isn't my bag, but I know it's a very tough industry. I'd have respect for any designer who has gone through the training, worked their way through the industry, and achieved success through talent and determination. That doesn't really apply to VB though.
  5. It should be marked as a duplicate thread. The original question could have easily be asked at the end of the original thread. David, you should have seen this coming. People love to argue, even if it's on the subject of the merits of another thread.
  6. Anyone who takes the bible literally - from Noah's Ark to Balam's Donkey to the Four Horsemen - clearly has a screw loose. But if you take it metaphorically, how can you be sure your interpretation is correct? How can you be sure that there's any value in it at all?
  7. The obvious problems with moving the unemployed out of cities are that you'll create a huge social division, and make it harder for them to find work. Only the truly foolish would want to see this kind of social cleansing happening.
  8. You could raise money for comic relief with a sponsored wet shave on the number 40.
  9. I think "wife of David David Beckham" is a more accurate description than "singer" or "business woman". Her only real talent seems to be cashing in on her fame.
  10. You probably could, Alan. If you could heat it to 3000 degrees C or so.
  11. If people were more careful about leaving out rubbish, etc, then we wouldn't have anywhere near as many foxes around. They are here as a result of our behaviour. So unless we adjust that behaviour, we have to realise that we have wild carnivorous animals amongst us. The very occasional attack against a human is pretty much negligible as far as I'm concerned. Dogs are much more of a danger to humans than foxes are.
  12. uncleglen - if there are people out there who just want to freeload while actively avoiding work, then I'd be happy to house them all in the crumbling remains of Dungeness A. Although I don't know how you can be so sure about the scale of the problem. And more to the point, how can we reliably identify benefit fraud?
  13. Toenails guy wins.
  14. maritap - I've only been here for 10 years, but I heard than an elderly lady lives in the premises next to WR, and is not interested in selling. So that's that. Ever since I've been here, there has always been at least a couple of empty shops along Lordship Lane at any time. They will become occupied sooner or later, and others will become vacant.
  15. I agree that the transport in Camberwell needs adressing more urgently that ED. Especially now that services from Denmark Hill into central London have been reduced.
  16. People always say they like the idea of live music, but in reality, there's actually a very small market for it. Certainly nowhere near enough to support a little venue in every neighbourhood.
  17. I thought Source Code was abysmal from start to finish, afraid to say! (I signed up to LoveFilm instant, only to find there was little on there that I actually wanted to watch... and Source Code was one of the few recent films I'd actually heard of).

  19. Going back to the star wars topic... a release date of 2015 seems incredibly optimistic, seeing as they don't yet have a script, let alone a cast. I fear that we're just going to get some hastily cobbled together rubbish.
  20. If you're complaining about the quality of the burgers, you're missing the point. You don't go there for a gourmet experience, there is no point comparing it with a ?10+ burger from a restaurant/gastropub. It's quick, cheap, hot food that you can eat on the go, and tastes OK-ish. If you don't want to eat their food then that's fine, but showing off about it is just snobbery.

  22. It has to be streaky bacon. And how about a slice of black pudding in there too!
  23. If they get the original cast back, they would probably be worth watching. Mark Hamill may need to get in shape first. One of the things that really annoyed me about the prequels (other than the awful acting, stupid plots, and terrible characters) was the general look of the films and the unrealistic CGI. They need to get back to using physical sets and scale models.
  24. I'd be happy to have a tube as long as the property prices didn't rise even further. But I guess you can't have your cake (and latte) and eat it.
  25. ?13.70 sounds steep. But these days you gotta expect to pay at least a tenner for two posh coffees and some cake.
