Wot c-bag said. And also the fact that they were one of the worst teams in the tournament, on the basis of these performances they didn't even deserve to be there in the first place.

  4. To be fair, the week before last, the FTSE dipped on the back of Brexit fears, so it's not a good benchmark for comparison. Too early to say for sure whether the current apparent dip is of any particular significance. The drop in GBP is more telling.

Are you familiar with the book "Connectography"? His basic argument is that geopolitical boundaries are becoming less important, and what matters is infrastructure between major cities (transport, electronic, supply chains), creating globally important hubs.

  7. We used to live on Ivanhoe Rd. I think that side of the road has been mainly residential for a long, long time. Although there was a minicab office on that side of the road in the early 2000s. The pub on the corner opened (in it's final incarnation as "Hoopers") around 2008, and it was a nice place, but sadly didn't work out and closed maybe three years ago.

  9. Good luck with that one keano
  10. Does anyone have any actual real upsides, rather than this bollocks about having our country back, hoovers and English wine...
  11. A few years ago I would have said Muse, but they seem to have turned into a stadium rock parody. Last Shadow Puppets might be worth a watch. Beck, Editors, Chvrches. Band of Skulls are pretty rockin. Always loved Madness - and I think The Selecter are on one of the smaller stages too.

It's not just London vs everyone else.
  13. uncleglen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I hope when you say 'banker' your index > fingers are pulling you mouth sideways When did I say "banker"? The vast majority of people working for banks are normal people on (fairly) normal salaries.
  14. Several banks warned beforehand that they'd need to move jobs to the EU... it will happen.
  15. Morgan Stanley just announced 2,000 jobs are moving from London to Dublin and Frankfurt. Banks (and other multinationals) are going to need more people in the EU and less in London. But as long as we get to keep Britain British... it's all good..

  18. Would love a plug-in hybrid in theory, but without off-street parking I'm not sure if there'd be any point. Even if you get a kerbside charging point installed, you can't guarantee you'll be able to park there! A cable stretching across the pavement from your front yard to the car is a huge safety risk, surely a non-starter.

Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I would have thought it was the other way around? > I did think a few weeks ago that if England didn't > get to the final 16 the remain vote would suffer. That's what the article said (I just found it online to check). Makes absolutely zero sense either way, if you ask me. The public should have to pass some sort of basic IQ test before being allowed to vote.

Yep, N Irish lad I work with is supporting ROI... all a bit sad really (in both senses of the word)
  22. civilservant Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > the more elections I live through, the more I'm convinced > of how little effect reasoned arguments have on > how people end up voting. Reasoned argument seems to be the last thing on people's minds. I recently read an article in a "newspaper" (probably metro/standard) claiming that one in six people would be more likely to vote to leave if England beat Slovakia in the football!
  23. And you usually have such a keen sense of humour, edh...
  24. That is one story. One rumour is that Southern/Govia/whoever have banned staff from doing overtime or swapping shifts, in some sort of tit-for-tat move, which is why there's never any staff available. Highly doubt today's strike will make any noticeable difference to the disgraceful level of service.
  25. Yesterday evening, two trains in a row were cancelled and the third was delayed by 15 mins. There was very little information available to the waiting passengers. Friday evening was a similar story. The "lack of staff" and "conductor sickness" excuses they are using are insulting.
