  1. Macey's stock the more environmentally friendly asthma inhalers... great in principle, but they fall to bits and aren't as effective, so I go elsewhere!
  2. I think it's quite a good shop... it's a bit different, kind of retro... good place to buy presents, fun for the kids. Their ice cream is pretty good too. I noticed over xmas that H&G stuff is available in selfridges too.
  3. I really don't think East Dulwich is overpriced... I'd say it's quite averagely priced by London standards. More expensive than a lot of SE London, but for obvious reasons.
  4. Just got back from holiday, not a very nice welcome home. Probably my favorite bar in ED. Wish I had a few (hundred) grand to buy it.
  5. KK- What time of night do I need to go out to see cleavage?
  6. By claiming "white middle class commuters" are scared of black people, you are implying they are racist. You are implying that that these "white middle class commuters" believe that black people are of a more dangerous/violent disposition. I just don't think that these sweeping generalisations are either fair or helpful.

You certainly are socially aware!
  8. I usually get the noodle thing with bits of pork and chopped up spring roll on top. And summer rolls. Unfortunately though, my opinion of Vietnamese food took a bit of a bashing last year, when I got a bit of duck bone stuck in my throat. But I will definitely be paying this new place a visit, if I can get some reassurance that dishes will not contain small but deadly fragments of bone!
  9. Yeah, it looks much nicer than I expected.
  10. I think the word "dump" is a bit harsh... I thought it was fine when I first went (maybe 2002 or 2003), these days it maybe could do with a lick of paint, but still far from a dump - at least in my eyes!
  11. I see they've got a guy holding a sign on the corner...
  12. The old Palmerston wasn't too bad really. Forresters was a dump though.
  13. It does seem like a lot of flats for quite a small space. But I don't think that 22 flats will introduce traffic issues on there own, there are WAY more than 22 homes just over the road in Hayes Grove. And new flats often come with allocated parking these days, don't they?
  14. Bab & swine don't do falafel though... where will I go for my falafel fix now?
  15. In my opinion, the only pub which has got worse is the Mag... I used to like the quiz and the comedy there, and despite the tatty decor, you used to get a good crowd in there. Maybe I'm just biased because I don't like football/rugby/cricket.
  16. The choccies in Hope and Greenwood are nice... not a huge selection though, and perhaps not absolutely "top end". A chocolate shop & patisserie would be nice. I don't think we really need a pizzeria - Mon petit chou do pizzas, there's an italian place on forest hill rd, and rumours of another italian where "the green" used to be.
  17. Wasn't someone saying the other day that Franklins just wanted to take the premises to make sure it didn't become a rival restaurant or bar (there was talk of All Bar One). If that's the case, perhaps they're not aiming for a huge profit, it would be enough just to keep it ticking over.
  18. What? It's actually open now? When did that happen? Can you get directly into this new bar/overflow area/discotheque, or is it access through the main restaurant entrance only? I must go and take a look...
  19. They do sometimes have stand-ins working there. The main guy there is generally fine, felt awful when I heard about the attack a couple of years ago.
  20. We've already been told that there is not room for any more trains through East Dulwich in morning rush hour. I think the main excuse given was the Gatwick Express.
  21. I heard it was going to be some sort of bar. Hopefully a bar which also sells kebabs.
  22. Yes... it sounds lovely, but it ain't hollandaise. Sounds more like bernaise, minus the tarragon of course.
  23. James? Do you mean me? I think because it's such a simple and well established sauce to make, you'll probably find that most of the blenderless recipes are more or less the same. This recipe is pretty much what I'd do (and I like the site's "scientific" angle): http://www.exploratorium.edu/cooking/eggs/recipe-hollandaise.html
  24. I posted before but it disappeared... yes, glass bowl over a pan of water. Slowly whisk melted butter & lemon juice into the eggs. Maybe put one or two spoons of hot water from the pan into the sauce to help it on it's way.
  25. There's still a housing shortage in this country, new homes have to be built somewhere. Although ED does seem to have had more than its fair share over the last few years. (disclaimer - I have no data to back this up). What makes you think it would have been an M&S? It might have been a fast food place, a chain bar, carphone warehouse, whsmiths, estate agents, etc.
