  1. Mail sticking out of the letterbox is really annoying, and same applies for junk mail/flyers. I'm always concerned it makes it look like nobody is home.
  2. If you still have a tape deck, record some of your favourite songs onto cassette. Then open up the cassette and reverse the tape. Play it, and see if you hear the voice of satan.

  4. TBH it's laughable. No-go areas for the met police... because of radical Islam... ridiculous.
  5. McDonalds "Festive Pie". Filled with mincemeat and custard. Thanks Otta for the recommendation. I'm craving another...
  6. Hope you're on the mend, Sue.
  7. Once or twice a year is OK. Five times a year is not. After 2/3am is also not OK - especially outside, or even with the windows open.

  9. Hi Sean - thanks for your reply and your PM. Understand these things are a bit random and its probably just bad luck. I would happily take you up on your kind offer... if I hadn't just broken my foot and was housebound for the rest of the year! But I appreciate you getting in touch.
  10. We got ours last weekend from the place under the arches next to Brick brewery. Unfortunately it is dropping so heavily, I think it will be completely bare by Christmas. It is standing in a pot filled with water. Maybe I was unlucky.

    ELO

Yeah, probably to : a) Highlight that JL is actually in it, unlike some other incarnations b) distinguish it from other "reunion" acts featuring other original members
  12. I wouldn't want to judge. Many of us will be retiring at 70... to an insignificant state pension, and a private pension pot which is barely growing. I can't really blame people for wanting to keep their old flat, rather than go on a one-man mission to rescue the housing market.
  13. My wife hasn't seen any of them - she's not really interested in that genre of film. I think peoples love of the originals is largely a nostalgia thing.. the first one in particular was groundbreaking. But in all honestly the script/plot is not amazing, and some of the acting is bad. What I don't get is how Star Wars toys are huge this Christmas, and the new movie isn't even out yet!
  14. Jesus Grok, you do say some weird stuff. Walthamstow a no-go area?
  15. But nobody is suggesting that, philma.
  16. Joseph... I admire you for sticking up for the guys trying to earn an honest crust, but I'm afraid you are mistaken. It is a scam. Maybe they're not claiming it's quality merchandise, but they are deceiving us by claiming to be part of some sort of kosher rehabilitation scheme (it is not). They work in gangs, descend on a road, and move on - and can be aggressive. Google it.
  17. I'm not an expect either. But I would have thought that if the cracked brickwork is not "stitched", then it will continue to move, and any new plaster will be bound to crack. Drilling out the mortar and inserting steel reinforcing bars is not a huge job.
  18. Let's not forget pancake day. Gotta have a few pancakes on shrove Tuesday.
  19. Yeah I think it's fine to embrace our Christian cultural heritage. You can still celebrate Christmas, Easter, harvest festival, whatever. Sing carols. Visit churches and cathedrals, and appreciate the art and music inspired by religion. It's a rich mythology, nobody is saying we need to pretend it doesn't exist.. as long as we don't confuse it with fact, or turn to it for moral teachings.

  21. Loved that Independent piece, Otta. Bill Gates isn't in a position to do anything about "closing up the internet!" And even if he was, Trump is little more than a turd on the sole of this shoe.
  22. I have a theory that a little while ago, he realised he'd bitten off more than he could chew. But instead of pulling out of the race, he started saying the stupidest things he could think of. When it backfired, he tried to dig himself out of the hole by turning it up a notch. Still not quite worked but he's getting close.
  23. Ah, that's a different subject. Should enforced religious worship be removed from non-faith schools? And the answer is of course - yes. No need to completely abolish assembly though. There are plenty of subjects to talk about, and plenty of trad/folky songs you can sing, without bashing on about God and Jesus. And there are much more important moral lessons to be learned in the world around us than in any religious text.
  24. Correction : melted cheese, boiled potatoes, charcuterie and pickles. Protein, carbs, veggies... pretty balanced I'd say! (washed down with red wine, which obviously counts as another one of your five-a-day)
  25. I could murder one of these..
