  1. If anyone is interested, David Simon is to be a special guest at this summer's annual Harrogate Festival of Crime Writing...
  2. The problem with home-made sausage rolls - or cheese scones, eccles cakes, whatever - is that realistically you have to make at least a dozen. Even if you freeze a lot the home-made product is so superior to the shop-bought you end up eating far too many for your own good! For shop-bought sausage rolls anywhere but Greggs, and I agree Luca's are pretty good - especially the ones with apricot added - as are Ayres of course, eaten still warm in the street as you leave! (see other thread somewhere)
  3. It is strange how there appear to be two different versions as to how much WHU are paying Sheffield United. Most papers say ?15 million, paid over five years. However both the Times & Observer say ?10 million now, and ?15 million over five years. The settlement details are supposed to be confidential, so it looks like two separate leaks. Goodness knows which, if any, is accurate. Edited to add that Yorkshire Post changed the figure to ?25 million from ?15 million too at 11.30am...hmmm
  4. Arsenal 3 Blackburn 0 Bolton 2 Fulham 0 Everton 2 Stoke 1 Hull 1 Newcastle 2 Man Utd 2 Liverpool 0 Middlesbrough 0 Portsmouth 0 Sunderland 2 Wigan 1
  5. If McCabe doesn't want to go there - and it seems neither side wants to go there - I am wondering if it because he has seen West Ham's books and takes the pragmatic view that a third of a cake is better than none at all? After all that it looks like it still may not be all over for West Ham and there could still be another fine or even a points deduction...
  6. I am sorry but your quoted paragraph is littered with inaccuracies....and its old news anyway. It was debated beyond the point of boredom here more than once. And the key word in your final sentence is "If the reports are to be believed...."
  7. I see it has just been announced that BBC2 is going to show all 5 series from start to finish free, gratis and for nothing!
  8. I seem to recall Dulwich Hospital was a military hospital during the First World War, which might also go some way to explaining this?
  9. Finally Sheffield United went down and Wigan just offered lukewarm moral support << Cannot let this one pass. Fulham, Wigan, Charlton and United were all solid about this - before it became clear which of the sides would actually be relegated. The rest of the Premier League was deafeningly silent in support of West Ham. West Ham having actually paid up yet. The final sum payable is to be decided next week. Sheffield United claim ?45 million whereas West Ham claim it should be ?5 million. They should really stop whingeing and procrastinating and realise their employees let their club down on two distinct occasions with Tevez, the second time fatally. Now the chickens are finally home to roost. Ironically, if the Premier League had been remotely efficient and docked points then by now West Ham would probably be back in the Premier League and....who knows where a Warnock-managed Sheffield United would be? West Ham behaving like hard-done-by martyrs is just laughable. SimonM
  10. It was a dreadful game though, and as the Sky commentator observed, on the strength of tonight's performance, none of the other quarter finalists need fear the winner...
  11. I am still reeling at seeing the words "Modesty" and "DulwichMum" in the same sentence....B) SimonM (exits hurriedly, seeking witness protection)

Yes, the screen can freeze up for a minute out of the blue....try googling firefox and see the zillions of complaints :))
  13. The real problems arise when a pair of parents who swear by snakeoil (or whatever) insist on treating their sick child by such illusory "methods"....

Anyone else being driven mad by the faults in the latest version??
  15. Greenwich Park/Greenwich Market/Cutty Sark/Naval Museum can be quite plesant
  16. >>Dont be ridiculous, why would Sainsburys have a small local store that close to a big supermarket, especially in difficult economic times it wouldnt make sense! << Well they have a small local one in Herne Hill, not that much further from DKH than the Plough parade is. I think one just there could so quite well myself.
  17. I just want to live forever...
  18. >>...Sheffield United still a bunch of excuse seeking not very good northern moaning minnies though<< Yawn.... Actually now seeking ?45.3 million....:))
  19. Tony Currie was a Sheffield United star in the days when I never missed a home game. Even when we lost you knew watching him had been worth the price of admission alone. He once came to my local pub with half the United team because Geoff Salmons (United midfielder who had gone to my school) was having a party and the Lads all met up there first. It was rather irksome all the women in the pub swooning and drooling at this long blonde-haired, muscular-thighed Norse God who had entered our presence...with his scowling wife in tow who wanted to move back to London...He eventually went to Leeds but has been back at Bramall Lane a while now, no longer blonde and somewhat portly...
  20. Triumph?! Chance'd be a fine thing....Broadly agree about what you say about true fans though SimonM (Sheffield United through thin and thinner)
  21. A bloke along Underhill Road has a scary snake...python or something...
  22. Monmouth is a fiver for 500 gms of beans at Cafe 2050. Illy is also available as beans from DKH Sainsbury's. slightly more expensive than Monmouth.
  23. I cannot quite get my head around the idea that there may be soon be three co-ops in SE22....(none of which I am likely to use very much)
  24. The problem with St George is that only is he no longer a saint, he was not even English. Much better to celebrate St Jude (patron saint of lost causes) every day as I do....:-(
