  2. Villa as, ahem, my team is not in the list...:(
  3. Heinz Beans have always been too bland and sweet and mushy - always been (sic) ABH ("any but Heinz")for me, and Branston became my favourite as soon as they were "revived". I used to adore Cross & Blackwell years ago. The only exception to the ABH rule is their curried bneans with sultanas, which go marvellously with sausage and mash.. Welsh Rarebit on granary toast with a layer of beans between toast and cheese is food of the gods Tinned baked beans and sausage (again, Heinz is okay for this as well as Branston) is great with a jacket potato.. Odd Fact: if you buy Branston beans via Ocado it has for some time been cheaper to buy 4 single 440 gram cans than one 4-pack... SimonM
  4. "Swedes" in this context is short for "Swedish turnips" (see Cobbett's "Rural Rides"). They are not exclusively Scottish. White turnips are basically cattle food, except when served with white sauce at expensive restaurants...B) Is no-one going to quote/recite Burns' "Nine inch will please a lady" then? Oh very well Come rede me dame, come tell me dame, My dame come tell me truly, What length o' graith when weel ca'd hame Will sair a woman duly?" The carlin clew her wanton tail, Her wanton tail sae ready, "l learn'd a sang in Annandale, Nine inch will please a lady." etc etc
  5. North Cross Road has a small but generally excellent pet shop (nothing live though) Aquarium/fish supplies I think you need Crystal Palace
  6. A small point - the Farmers' Market at Dulwich College is generally only held on the 4th Sunday of each month, not every Sunday
  7. "The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet " Damon Runyon

    classy hotel

Louisa defines "skanky" as "not having a branch of the Anne Summers chain" Just sayin' B)
  10. Not sure why Liverpool would go for Roy Keane when Ferguson fils is available...:))
  11. So 2 Lancs clubs (Burnley & Preston) sack their managers.... jamais deux sans trois M. Hodgson? :(
  12. When Spooks filmed in Nunhead, Nunhead actually played Highgate! :))
  13. I was lying on a bed in Dulwich Hospital Haemodialysis Unit, and the nurse about to stick the needles in me told me. The shock and dismay was almost as bad as hearing about JFK 17 years earlier.
  14. As this forum's token Sheffield United supporter, I found the rumour published in "The Observer " that West Ham are to replace Avery Grant with Neil Warnock beyond hilarious. I mean, where to begin !:))
  15. In defence of the French I offer the following without further comment or clarification....:- Catherine Deneuve & Francoise Dorleac Isabelle Adjani Isabelle Huppert Beatrice Dalle Emmanuelle Beart Sophie Marceau Jeanne Moreau Eva Green etc etc etc
  16. I don't mind "cheeses" - I am often told they want me for a sunbeam - but "PIN Number" drives me mad!
  17. An estate agency does not have to sell that many properties to cover the annual rent does it? There used to be a tattoist where Domino's Pizzas is :)
  18. I think Ferguson knows how to nurse a grudge and is familiar with Machiavelli on the subject of revenge. Rooney, having signed a 5 year contract, is now no longer a "wasting asset". He'd better rediscover his form soon or Ferguson might loasn him out to Preston; or sell him. And I suspect winning back the hearts and minds of the supporters after flirting with City won't be an overnight task either...
  19. Torres and Rooney up front, in their present form?! :)) Would Liverpool pay Rooney the ?150k a week he is supposedly after??
  20. They need an in-form Rooney though, not the current incarnation. Maybe City will buy him and repeat that "Welcome to Manchester" poster? :) I don't think Rooney's fortune would revive in either Spain or Italy, assuming a sale price could be agreed.
  21. It's set in Yorkshire I think? So more of a Gosford/Emmerdale hybrid than anyfink from East Lunnon. I do find poor Liam from "Coronation Street" as a gay footman a bit hard to swallow though, and Lady Jane from "Lovejoy" should be "Upstairs" surely??
  22. I find this all too credible. A few years back I had my pocket picked in W H Smith's in Bromley by a team of 3 Asian-origin young women. One distracted me by leaning across the bookshelves I was studying, 1 was the dip and 1 was the look-out. SimonM
  23. Oh dear. Growing up in the 60's I never found Norman Wisdom remotely funny, and knew noone who did. Even then his films were very much a "niche interest" and there was little surprise when they stopped making them. He was not bad as a serious actor though, even if the less said of his cameo in "Coronation Street", the better.
  24. Those sketches are not remotely racist. I am sad though that, thus far, the shows have just not been funny.
  25. It used to be awful when Sparkes had their stall on that narrow pavementr by the side of Londis - queues = bottleneck. So if that end of the road was pedestrianised so the stalls there could face the other way...
