  1. Many years ago in Blenheim Grove Peckham, there was a sop where you could purchase things like cereals, dried fruit etc using your own containers. It was part of a larger organisation London wide. Cannot remember the name but was always very busy. Worked out cheaper as well and you could buy as little or as much as you wish.
  2. There was an independent organisation of ED Business owners set up many years ago initially to oppose the building of the Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill. It was supported during that time by members of the East Dulwich and Dulwich Societies. Cannot remember when Sainsbury's was opened - must be a good 15 years ago.
  3. Extended dog leads are a pain in the streets- if you are a driver whose vehicle is 'off road' in front garden, you cannot see small dogs on long leads as you pull out especially, if like me you have a small fence. Also for those with restricted vision and mobility they are dangerous. I think they are fine in good open spaces like the park but not in areas where there are pedestrians or footpaths.
  4. Was going to attend meeting but got held up as assisting a neighbour with some DIY. Last time a meeting was held at the library with a 'routine agenda' you could hardly move. Should have held it at Christ Church.
  5. This happened to us many years ago - we have a combined drain with next door (and possibly the house before) and our neighbours were putting nappies down the toilet which caused massive blockage of water and sewage in our cellar. I think the water board sorted it our but was so long ago I cannot remember. We also have underground streams running under some of the houses in Barry Road and consistent and heavy rainfall in the past have caused water to rise in the cellar.
  6. last time I heard was that the site was being developed for housing - not sure whether this has gone to Planning yet for approval.
  7. Family paid roughly ?12 per ticket to see film in Surrey Quays ( it was not showing at Peckham where they usually go) Slight reduction for our 15 year old as a student.
  8. have flown from Gatwick to Poland but found it extremely busy and can get confusing at times when they change gates at last minute. Since Jersey is only a short hop thought it might be easier to go from. We tend to bus it to East Croydon then get train.
  9. Watch out if you are in a conservation area as they only allow certain colours.
  10. They are called Euro bins and are quite bulky so need storage space. You are charged quarterly for them so you will need to discuss with landlord as to how he/she will charge all other residents in the other flats.
  11. I did hear from one councillor that further consultations will be made with residents around the station area as to whether it is to be an all day or part day CPZ - I got the impression that Southwark were looking at a 11 - 1 pm CPZ. Also you notice in the consultation that schools had raised concerns that a CPZ will have an impact of teacher recruitment/stability.
  12. Has anyone flown to Jersey from City Airport? How long did it take and are the seats comfortable? I am on the 'larger size' and find my knees are pressed into the seat in front.
  13. I got a call from allegedly OFCOM stating that my email account had been hacked and was going to be cut off within 24 hours - press 1 for more details. Just put phone down.
  14. Our GP surgery undertakes home visits within their catchment area. What street/area is the 'patient' in? Some GPs may offer a 'private service'.
  15. When hubby had bike - used a kryptonite D lock plus cable locks (on wheels)
  16. Why do the council assume that everyone has a mobile phone!! I do not have one and find it extremely annoying parking where they do not take cash payments at the meter. I do not use the car routinely but picking up heavy goods, taking the cats to the vet (a good walk from bus stop with a heavy cat in basket.

    Brexit View

Hopefully you can read this PDF which shows how much Brexit has cost us so far and the impact on the economy
  18. Received this from SNT. It has been brought to Police attention that there is dog fouling occurring around the Goodrich School area, SE22. Please be advised that it's illegal and dangerous to public's health, especially for young children as it can cause serious illness. It is the dog owner's or the person in charge of the dog(s) responsibility to clean dog waste properly and dispose of it safely. Failure to do so may render you, the dog owner or person in charge of the dog(s), with a penalty notice of fine. For repeat offenders the Council will prosecute and if convicted then you may face a fine of up to ?1,000. REPORT Dog Fouling: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/street-care/dog-fouling. Send the Council any footage of dog fouling - it's evidence. #DulwichHill
  19. Nothing against parties but keep the music down say after midnight. From what I gather from relative - there were about 20 or so people talking vary loudly in the street, clearly heard through double glazing. When we used to have parties - always inform neighbours and invite them.
  20. The police are fully aware of these and we discussed this at the Dulwich Hill SNT meeting last night. In order to be legitimate sellers they need to have a pedlars licence and be able to produce this at the door. I will put up the full details later.
  21. We had retired greyhounds in the past and although they would not bit people, they would sometimes take a nip at other animals, so to protect other dogs and cats, the dogs were not allowed out without muzzles. It is better to be safe than sorry.
  22. Many people were swayed into voting leave by certain politicians who promised additional funds to NHS etc. Did they expect that leaving would happen almost straight away and that all our problems would be solved?. Immigration from non EU countries will not cease and it is clear that many EU workers are involved in the hospitality, care and agricultural industries. I have worked with many EU hospital doctors and nurses in Kings and also in the past at Maudsley - the loss of such staff will have serious consequences on the NHS. I imagine most of us did not think of the impact of a leave vote on N. Ireland and its' borders with Eire. Much regeneration of cities/area were helped by EU grants - it is not all about straight cucumbers! Most 'bad things' about being in EU can be counteracted by the 'good'. Those Brits who live abroad will need to decide whether to associate themselves with their country of preference or return to GB. I discovered years ago in connection with my work that those who chose to live in Spain etc and sell up to return to GB will not automatically be eligible for help with housing from their local council if they lack the necessary funds to purchase a home in GB. Would Cameron have made a better deal? I think a People's Vote should have several questions on it - Do you support the current deal proposed by TM? If no then indicate your preference 1. A no deal Brexit. 2. 2nd Referendum
  23. I know that our ward police officers have turned up at schools where this is a problem and spoken with parents. Traffic Enforcement Officers do not appear to do anything about this. This has been a problem for over 20 years as my youngest is now in her 30s and we had the same issues back then.
  24. Last night there appeared to be a very loud party going on near the Plough end of Barry Road. As we have a family member who has to get up at 3 am to be at work for 4.30 am, he only managed to get 3-4 hours sleep and ended going into work at 2.30 am as unable to get back to sleep. Also a lot of people hanging around in Barry Road talking loudly.
  25. In the summer holidays there are various holiday clubs for the 5 - 11 year olds which are open generally from 8 - 6 pm. Gumboots After School club have a 4 week summer holiday club at the East Dulwich Community Centre. Make contact with the club (who meet from school closure time until 6 ish term time only) to get details of dates and costs.
