The below statement on the FONC site https://www.fonc.org.uk/component/content/article/93-nunhead-cemetery-closed.html links to this https://www.iccm-uk.com/iccm/wp-content/library/Joint%20Statement%20on%20Coronavirus%20Act%202020.pdf the only relevant part of is "Clarification is currently being sought on if this same requirement to close applies to burial grounds." So no doubt waiting on that clarification

It's being said if people are responsible this weekend we could be out of lockdown at the end of May if not we are talking September.

This is the one time I wish I could do more than sew buttons If a mask helps it helps the people around you I think. Mind when I paid my first visit to the local Tesco in 10 days everyone was NOT coughing at all - no coughs no clearing of the throat - we're all still breathing though - and I even try to keep talking to a minimum if I have to talk even from 2m away. ANyway heres the WHO page https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/when-and-how-to-use-masks

fishbiscuits Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And we can probably also learn from post-SARS Asia > in terms of wearing masks when unwell, and general > hygiene. The problem with masks is the only ones available are from China and take a month at least to be delivered - the UK suppliers don't have any for the public. and I can't sew :(

He was pretty famous in my time (1980s) - as famous as Morecambe and Wise were in the 1970s some might say. Not heard anything from him for years and felt rather sad - it's a sort of placeholder to grieve for all the rest

My dad had diptheria as a boy (weakens the heart) and died of a heart attack at 47 (my mother knew about the diphteria) - strangely its a bacteria but has a vaccine. I question if we know if COVID-19 weakens our lungs forever if we survive. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/diphtheria/

Essential Workers: Clapping Tonight 2 April
JohnL replied to DulwichGlobetrotter's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I can't bring myself to make a huge racket like some but I was there clapping as were many others around Peckham Rye. -

Some people (for various reasons hat may not be their fault) seem to have difficulty with judging distance and movement. The sort who bump into people walking along on a normal day. When that happens when you drive you sort of give them a wide berth if you can.

They sent the wrong parcel for sure.

They delivered me another parcel and usually they are pretty bad around here (due to difficulty in parking)- two in a row is pretty good for them. Maybe something has changed in their service.

Just saw on Sky News "Corona Virus patients more likely to die may have treatment withdrawn EVEN IF THEY ARE IMPROVING" I always thought a strong indicator was a persons strong motivation to live, as well as age and clinical diagnosis. It's what struck me years ago on Intensive Care and High Dependency wards (major op) - I was trying to get well every moment I was there but some seemed to have given up.

We had loads of candles in the house as a boy and a hurricane lamp as it happened so often - I actually liked it once. None now - not even an easily accessible torch - I'd just have to sit in the dark.

A flag for your home office is an essential when you have those friday skype team meeting where they say bring a drink :) (actually I placed my rugby shirt collection behind me and a colleague his Man Utd poster)

By the way King's College have an online symptom checker app (diary) (it's been on the news) https://www.kcl.ac.uk/news/symptom-tracker-app-hits-15-million-uk-users

Most streaming companies have now used a default of lower bandwidth/lower resolution (it's not just WFH - we're all streaming too). But the article below says we're still well OK https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/03/covid-19-a-look-at-mondays-uk-internet-traffic-and-isp-speeds.html But families have to blame :) https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/04/family-arguments-over-broadband-rise-during-covid-19-crisis.html

It's Northern Ireland but it gives you some idea of the issues here https://news.causewaycoastcommunity.co.uk/ni-news/video-grim-reality-of-coronavirus-pandemic-major-grave-digging-operation-at-cemetery/

There are a few obvious things we could speculate - but it's not really right to do so and the only reasons given by the government and the council (it's across the UK it seems) is the ones above.
-
?This will help make the area safer for grieving family and friends, at an incredibly difficult time,? Southwark Council said although other websites imply this is part of the emergency legislation. I think it's also not seen as appropriate for dog walks and exercise to be taking place in cemeteries at present (my words). I did find the below from a day or so ago. https://www.sthelensreporter.co.uk/health/coronavirus/st-helens-residents-told-not-use-cemeteries-exercise-after-joggers-and-dog-walkers-flocked-facility-2520753

Good idea - in the same way lane swimming has a direction (although some people will still swim in the wrong way).

Anything over ?30 needs the PIN so risks this, although I have heard some banks are increasing this to ?50 or more for this very reason. My small shops invariably come to around ?32 :)

Can't see why anyone would snigger - when on the stairs in my flat we wait for people to walk up single file. Can only be people who (like flat earthers might deny the earth is round) deny this is an emergency IMHO.
