  1. I've had the same problem with baliffs, took a few plain speaking letters with advice on how to word them to get them off our trail. Anyway, does anyone know Vic Burns? It does if you stick it up your bum.
  2. On my very first evening out in lordship lane I saw a man being punched out of the doors of the foresters by a lady companion. rough geezers indeed.
  3. I know the human being and fish can co-exist peacefully.
  4. thanks trinity, really interesting post
  5. check out some of the comments on runners world http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/forummessages.asp?EN=56378&URN=6&UTN=157105&Events_Last=1&V=2&SP= people are quite negative about it but it's worth the experience of running on some of londons more inaccessible roads. It's very packed at the start though, it took me 45 minutes to start, so get there early.
  6. Perhaps it's a piece of qualitative ethnographic research looking at the reactions to a survey request in a middle class affluent population? Are we being observed? *dons tin foil hat*
  7. is 34K views a record? Should we put barry forward for a public service award of some kind?
  8. That is interesting. The fox under hill, champion hill and green dale clearly marked out 200+ years ago. I like the bulge in the road around goose green; I wonder why that was given the lack of buildings around there?
  9. Different route: Upper east side to Soho Square Townley road, North Dulwich station, RedPost Hill, Herne Hill Rd, Loughborough Rd, Brixton Road, Kennington Road, Baylis Road onto Waterloo Road and over Waterloo bridge, up Bow street and round some back bits of St. Giles to Tottenham Ct station.
  10. Prices haven't dropped at all - we sold then came off the market as everything above us went ballistic. We viewed a house at ?550k and were told the owners would accept a much lower offer; it's just come back on the market a couple of months later at ?600k. The agents are kiling any movement in the market by over-pricing to get people on the books. You'll be paying top banana if you buy now with the strong possibility of the dead cat splat.
  11. I used to buy things from these people years ago but then wised up after I googled the name of the company on a pack of 10 quid cloths I was mugged for - it was a limited company and the only trace was a winding up order.
  12. at 8.15am?
  13. Anyone know of anywhere showing this tomorrow morning? On my walk to work there's an Italian cafe on Dean Street that has been packed for days as they put the cricket on in the morning. Nowhere round here being so enterprising I assume?
  14. I'm going to open a stall on North Cross Lane selling tin foil hats - I'll do a roaring trade judging by this thread. Is the contention that the manager of Sainburys contacted the council to get a man to go and try to put Val out of business by moving her stall back a few yards off the pavement? Would he act alone without the conivance of his superiors? Is the suggestion that this is a high level strategy by the owners of Sainsburys? Might the risk of discovery of this strategy and the national negative publicity it would receive outweigh the need to nick a few spuds and milk off val? Might there be a simpler explanation based around council jobsworthness and incompetence? For the record, I like Sainsburys, I like Val's, and I don't like teenage conspiracists. Cue posts telling me to wake up - man.
  15. Heber closed, just received text from school
  16. matlow re: heber closing - is this a reliable source?

  18. James, I popped into dulwich park for a bit of cricket in the nets with my kid this afternoon to be greeted by locked gates on the nets and this message: "Please note that this cricket nets will be closed at the weekends during football season and whilst repairs are being made to the grass areas." This makes no sense - literally as well as grammatically - as the nets are not affecting the surrounding grass, but are next to two football pitches that presumably do bother the grass and are not being closed. Any chance of finding out what and why?
  19. Anyone been in? I'm a big fan of Sainsburys and went in tonight, only to walk out and go back to my local post office guys next door. It felt good to be in there for some reason, and their beer was 21p cheaper than sainsbos! I was keenly awaiting the opening, and am now confused. Answers on a postcard please.
  20. It's harsh to judge such an emotive and detailed account but these remind of the sort of 'spring-heeled jack' sightings of years past. With all of the big-cat sightings over the UK in recent decades it strikes me as suprising that one has never been caught or hit by a car.
  21. You might be interested to have a look at a floor plan for that type of house: http://www.bushells.com/resources/16/3827/269/Landells_Road_21.PNG Although, I've always wondered whether they were built like this. They date from the 1880's and my impression is that at that time a separate kitchen at the back would have been less common than 1 reception 1 kitchen/diner - the classic 2-up 2-down.
  22. Does anyone know if you have a right to turn down a single sex school? I have a relative who's a retired teacher who thought it was possible.

  25. Dr. Fox courtesy of Chris Morris: "There's no real evidence for it, but it's scientific fact" Thread of the week, thoroughly enjoying it. Top prize though goes to Panama's "I'm a 15 year old presenting at the Conservative party conference" schtick.
