The Phantom Cat Caller of East Dulwich Road!
Louisa replied to JedMk2's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
vgrant what a moronic response. And OP how on earth does this justify a thread? Do people these days around here really have nothing better to do with their time? Louisa. -

I think the question needing to be raised is how many deliveries per day are anticipated based on the potential popularity of the store. Of course, none of us know just how popular the store will be, but based on the demographics and shortage of similar stores locally it will in all probability be busier than the existing Iceland store. Therefore, it will need to be re-stocked more often, and consequently it will take more deliveries in a day. It's not rocket science. Louisa.

Carluccio's did look at ED way back in 2009 but nothing came of it, and the same rumours around Zizzi and a Wagamama never came to anything either. However, once the cinema opens and if M&S does manage to get the go ahead, it surely won't be long before these chain restaurants capitalise on the evening pre-cinema crowds. Anyone know what's happening to the east dilwich deli site? Louisa.

I agree Dog duck, but don't forget, the middle-class guardian reading trendies thrive on all this crap so just let them enjoy it. Then the rest of us can go and watch a film. Louisa.

What is happening with the historic Grove Tavern?
Louisa replied to Martin W.'s topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you go onto the Wetherspoons 'contact us' section of their website http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/about-us/our-pubs/a-wetherspoon-near-you there is a section where they take suggestions for new sites. I'm sure if enough people contacted them they would consider this site. I'd rather see it restored to it's former glory under the ownership of Wetherspoons than left in the sorry state it's currently in. As a company they are often very sympathetic to ancient historic inns. Louisa. -
I assume neither of you live on Chesterfield Grove then? Because if you did, would you want delivery trucks upto six times a day at various times of the day, clogging the road? Not to mention the potential for parking pressures. I guess if it doesn't affect you directly it's not a problem. Someone else's. Louisa.

I appreciate this thread has had a bit of a reboot and people who've not previously commented wish to get their two pennies' worth in, but why the need to turn away from the main issues at hand? M&S Simply Food will be unlike any other supermarket for a good few miles around. It is convenience based, easy access from the main road, and providing an upmarket chain option for local people. If we already had one in the village, or Peckham, Forest Hill etc etc I wouldn't raise the issue of parking. It's the fact we are surrounded by affluence and therefore this particular supermarket will attract people who want that option. This will probably put a strain on parking in the surrounding streets. Why has this not been addressed by this planning application? Louisa.

A personal touch. Maybe fill the fridge with some of the basics to make the stay run more smoothly? A bottle of wine and welcome card on the table when people arrive? Free and decent quality (eg Molton Brown) toiletries in the bathroom. Louisa.

Yes I agree M&S food outlets are everywhere these days, and it isn't necessarily 'up market', but it does have a middle class following, and it does charge more for it's goods on the whole. Are you honestly telling me you can't see wealthy village residents using their vehicles to pop down and pick up a few bits? And in larger numbers than they would for Iceland for example? No similar middle class marketed supermarket is within easy reach and convenient for these people, this will be. Louisa.

The delivery times have been addressed to a degree on the new application but there hasn't been much movement on location. Why can goods not be delivered on LL rather than a narrow road like Chesterfield? I personally am in two minds about how much extra parking stress the new M&S will add to those already existing from the Iceland store, as a convenience outlet it is aimed primarily at commuters unlike a large supermarket. However, my concern would be that a similar style up market chain supermarket is not anywhere within close proximity to the area, and it could potentially pull in folk from the village and other affluent areas who are the ideal demographic that M&S would aim for - will they drive or walk? House prices start to fall
Louisa replied to eastdulwichproperty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Surely the aesthetics of a property are not the underlying key factor here. I would suggest that land is the main cause for these astronomical rises. Good location, close to the centre of a booming city where housing or land with permission to build at least, is at a premium, therefore encouraging foreign investment into an already competitive market. Anyone who thinks prices long-term will fall is hugely mistaken. The facts as stated are that land for building is scarce thus hyper inflating the prices of existing property for sale in a city where demand far outstrips supply. In the words of Yazz, "The only way is up". Louisa. -
When you say 'not unusual' statistically what sort of percentages are we talking here that go for/against based on the recommendation of case officers? This has been a long drawn out, and somewhat polarised example of a planning case which has certainly divided opinion. If it is *Granted*, where does this leave the residents of Chesterfield? Do they have a right to appeal? I hope so. Louisa.

House prices start to fall
Louisa replied to eastdulwichproperty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The trouble with all these crazy prices is they actively encourage the media to talk more about it, and so add fuel to the house bubble flames.
