I struggle to find anything about Rolf horrible. I hope these allegations are found to be untrue because I have always looked upon him as a great charitable person. Louisa.

It's going to be a depot for parking overinflated egos who've just moved into the area. Louisa. -
The usual pretentious garbage puked across our screens from the lovely EDF forumites. Lots of assumptions about age, wealth and affluence. What one person finds skanky another may find an important lifeline. Also, removing all other variables and concentrating purely on the 'application' as first mate says, we can see the plan was rejected for good reason initially because of the detrimental effect it would have on a residential road already under strain from parking issues. Think before you type please. Louisa.

PT I'm not arguing that we should group anyone against anyone else. What I'm relaying to you, as you well know, is that some folk feel the area has become less diverse. Now you can measure diversity on any scale you wish, but the statistics office choose to categorise people in terms of 'ethnicity' on their census, the questions they pose, and if you take that scale to measure diversity in our neighbourhood then the place has become more homogeneous. The 'ethnic minority' (please note the word ethnic as defined by the census people), in our neighbourhood has fallen. The white population has indeed become slightly (very slightly in comparison to the rest of London) more diverse. The obvious conclusion is that the overall ethnic diversity has fallen in a decade. You say ED is not an island? Well it would appear to have become more of an island compared to surrounding neighbourhoods according to statistics. As we know it's not just about ethnic diversity, it's about class diversity, we have no way of measuring this, but the feeling I and many others have is that the area has become wealthier as house prices have risen and the working classes have moved away. Louisa.

PT you pick and choose your figures to suit your argument. As Otta points out, it feels as though there are less diverse faces of differing colours over the 10 years and the census statistics prove this fact. The 'ethnic' minority population (Non-white European) has fallen in the 10 years between censuses in the ED area as a whole. So although the area remains 'ethnically mixed' in your words, it is less so than it was a decade ago. That goes against the grain with pretty much everywhere else in London besides equally gentrified communities. So don't use the "it's about black and white for you is it?" argument, it's what the statistics show us, their findings not mine. Louisa.

PT if you take together the White Irish and White Other stats the total White population is 71%. Well above the average for London taken as an average, and unusually high for inner London in the 21st century. More to the point, if you compare with 2001 statistics, the total white population for ED was 64%. Louisa.

Iceland. Whenever I go in, the guys and girls who work here always put a smile on my face. Helpful staff, chatty, sense of real community. Such a great addition to the area. I'm sure any regular Iceland user would agree. Louisa.

Hipsters - Must haves. A first class honours in getting s*it faced in a s*ithole. Getting the night bus home and being loud and posh whilst juggling a kebab or boxed chicken meal. Must be annoying on public transport. A bad taste in vintage tops (preferably floral or ironic in some way). Tops with band names from the 70s seem popular too. Never haves. Never stay in a s*it area too long. No ones likes the p*sshead who hangs around on the streets at 6 in the morning, especially in a 'former' cool place. You're basically on a par with a park bench alcoholic if you do. Never talk about yourself in terms of 'labels' - you won't have too many friends if you do. Never laugh at something that's actually funny. It's the height of coolness. Keep a sarcastic face at all times. Completely ignore everything I'm saying. But check out my sweater, cos it's dated ugly and from a long time ago, and you want it off me don't ya? Louisa.

I think whoever the new tenant is, they're prepared to pay over and above the rent offered by others. If rumours are true though, and it's the artisan coffee shop, it's not a chain. Louisa.

Oh for goodness sakes (I said something else in my head). I started the thread about the EDD because it's become iconic and is in a prime retail spot. Totally different to an old pizza shop. No one cares! Louisa. -
Another vote for *Bob*, who, MrBen, I can assure you is safe and well in my basement. Louisa.

What is happening with the historic Grove Tavern?

It's not just an old harvester though is it? It has a long history and should be a listed building IMO. To see the site turned into anything other than a eatery/inn/pub/hotel combination would be awful. The Dulwich Estate won't let that happen I'm confident in that. Louisa. -

I'm with Jeremy on this. Some people are just fanatical about shops changing hands. They must have the southwark planning portal saved as a favourite. Louisa. -
Exactly LD. They may think they're adding culture to London, all they're doing is watering down its variety. The London I grew up in had so many characters and people with a story to tell. I'm sure Birkenhead was/is the same. I'm not suggesting all middle class people are dull, and that's why I love Dulwich Village personally, it has all the elements I associate with middle England culture and as a kid growing up in working class Peckham me and my friends were fascinated by the place. To accuse me of hating middle class people is totally misrepresenting what I'm saying. One of the main things in modern London id associate with this gentrification process is the ethnic mix of inner London once again changing, and as pointed out by LD predominantly white and middle class people becoming the dominant group in a former mixed working class neighbourhood. And it just seems to change the variety London does so well, and creates homogenous boring places. Louisa.
