  1. that will be some light viewing for a friday evening, pickle!
  2. I know, I've given birth but oh, the gore of it! Edited to add I had NO IDEA that is how the ventouse worked and the resus was frightening, I was in tears by this point! I know exactly what you mean about midwives, they are amazing, aren't they? Such a massively important and responsible job. All the midwives I had at The Lanes were amazing and very unflappable, exactly like all the midwives on this program.
  3. Just watching this now online so can't give any comments on it yet, but Amanda Holden assists a delivery as the "lead midwife" after 5 weeks' training. Should be interesting viewing! Here's the link to ITV player: http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/video/?Filter=112807
  4. bawdy-nan, I must admit after an unsuccessful homebirth that ended up in a c-section, i always feel a bit short-changed when people tell me stories about their brilliant births, but i'd still be tempted to try for a homebirth again!
  5. I was promised a puppy when I was in the ambulance en route to Kings, but this offer has now been retracted!
  6. I think it's worth censoring any version of it until a woman has given birth. Anyone with a bit of common sense knows that a big-headed baby coming out of a small hole is never going to be an easy task, but perhaps sparing the gory stuff about tearing, forceps and the many other horrors are best left alone! My daughter was very overdue, and all the "Oh my god you are MASSIVE / that baby is going to weigh 12 pounds" comments didn't really help much when I was lumping my 2 week overdue bump around!
  7. Were exposed daily to coughs, splutters, swine flu, normal flu (anyone remember that or has it been superceded by swine flue?) colds, stomach bugs, nits and all other weird and wonderful diseases with all the pupils that traipse in and out of my house daily, and so far have avoided everything except for a nasty stomach bug which I think my daughter picked up at nursery anyway!
  8. I thought there is an unwritten rule of keeping quiet about the horror stories of labour until AFTER the birth? at least that's how it's been amongst my friends.
  9. No swine jabs for us, but if you are worried, then better safe than sorry etc. etc.
  10. ?14?! Are they cashmere and angora with gold flecks in them?
  11. Heh heh! Have a xmas card for you from Bombi, will drop it off when I can brave the snowstorm! xx
  12. The shops on Rye Lane should have something - Primark, Peacocks, Atlantic etc. Or Fenton Walsh on Bellenden but it's a bit pricey probably.
  13. Mini hair straighteners, nail polish, funky tights or leggings? Nail polish always popular with teens!
  14. It's for VIPs, sillywoman, not just any old riff raff (!) :))
  15. The communication with parents is really good. They write in a diary every day so you know what activities your children did each day, what food they ate, how much milk they drank etc. There's also a weekly memo emailed to the parents about the goings-on in the nursery, new activities & parent meetings. They feed them really well, nice healthy stuff all cooked in the nursery, plus they have lots of snacks - fruit, breadsticks, organic rice cakes. Whenever it's a birthday, there is a little party in the nursery and the cook makes a cake for all the kids and they give a present to your child. My small one seems to spend quite a lot of time playing outside every day. The garden is small but it happily accommodates all the kids. It's great that the babies get to play with the older kids. My daughter also comes home with lots of paintings and arts and crafts stuff (quite skillful for a 1 year old, I'm sure there's lots of help with her paintings!). I guess in the older room they spend more time reading and writing.
  16. I can't ever imagine calling my daughter by anything other than her nickname, her real name is a bit grown-up and proper for a littl'un who is very cheeky and baby-ish at the moment. Can't keep calling her by a nickname forever though, I suppose, although I do teach a 7 year old with a cute nickname, so it could last a while longer!
  17. Ooh fab, I've always wanted to go to The Lodge. What time Pippa, 8pm or so?
  18. I think it all seems very solid and reliable there so hopefully nothing will disrupt that. As they are part of the larger Bright Horizons childcare group, there shouldn't be any repeat of the Bojangles drama, fingers crossed. Maybe see you when your two start in the main room. My small one won't go up to the main room till Summer 2010.
  19. Hi there, the new manager Shelley is really lovely and seems very settled in her role. One member of staff is leaving, I can't remember her name but she's from the main room, not the baby room where my daughter is. So far, it seems a pretty consistent standard to when the old manager Linda was there. Linda popped in yesterday to the xmas party to see how everyone is getting on.
  20. Jayne is amazing and comes well recommended by many people on this forum. Her web site is here. She does both cut and colour.
  21. GM's sounds great, how much do they charge?
  22. I think Jah Lush would prefer some Maker's Mark EDOldie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Bottle of Jack for Jah Lush? (Wot a secret santa)
  23. Ealing Durham Bradford Holloway Road Hoxton East Dulwich
  24. Want me to lend you an electric heater, Pickle? Or the woodburner on wheels?! I had quite a headache after 1 glass of wine. What has become of me?! 8th Jan it is!
