Father Christmas - a message from him
lorraineliyanage replied to mariababe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I didn't think of that, Pickle, but now I'm tempted to log back on it and do that. I did find it a bit creepy, like the Werther's Original advert, if you know of the one... -
Sharing baby's name whilst still in the womb
lorraineliyanage replied to EDmummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We gave our daughter a nickname whilst I was pregnant and we still call her that now, they even call her that at nursery, not many people know her real name! -

yes it was good to get out and meet up with everyone, thanks for organising, pippa (dark hair suits you!) Looking forward to getting a date in the diary for the next one -
SE22 magazine - who in SE22 actually gets it?
lorraineliyanage replied to sillywoman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We get it regularly (Barry Road), but have seen it in lots of local shops. Pickwick Estate Agents and Push Studios always have a copy -

Anyone interested in an after school muisc club?
lorraineliyanage replied to sparkle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Anna I did my Kodaly classes with Cyrilla, she is fantastic, isn't she? I don't drive, but it's not too bad on the train to get to Barbican from East Dulwich. Anyway, Iris isn't starting till 2012 so plenty of time still! -

Hi Agathoise Charlton's a bit further than I can cycle to or bus it (I can't drive), so won't be able to get there, otherwise I'd be keen to try that out, although I don't think I can listen to the pain of a young one learning the violin!! (I say this as a cellist, it's much gentler on the ears!) -

That sounds good, Iris will be 2 next September so we'll check her in then. Have managed to get her name down for Guildhall music school when she turns 4 where they teach entirely on the Kodaly and Dalcroze method, but keen to start her earlier. I have aspirations for her to be a mini-Mozart, being a music teacher myself! -
My daughter goes to Dulwich Nursery in Sainsbury's, Dog Kennel Hill, they take babies from 6 months old and are open 7 - 7 although I'm not sure whether you can leave your child there for the full 12 hours, i think 10 hours might be the limit for childcare although I could be wrong. Childminders do work out a bit cheaper usually. Dulwich Nursery is ?59 a day including food and whole milk for older babies.

Hi Anna, I've been hunting high and low for Dalcroze and Kodaly classes for babies but there's nothing nearby. If you start up anything for toddlers, I'd be really interested in this. I studied this method briefly when doing my music teacher training but am not the best singer, so haven't really put it into practice with my pupils, but really keen for my daughter to start this soon! -
Music at the Horniman - Sat 12th Dec

Fab, let's get our thinking caps on next year! -
My husband puts our daughter to sleep two nights a week when I'm working and I also quiz him on how much milk she drank, did she do a poo, what did she eat, what book did you read to her etc. etc. He does indulge me and answer the repetitive questions every day, plus add in something like "She was very cute this evening" just to humour me, I'm sure!
-
I now call my parents grandma and granddad, they are not mum and dad anymore. I also have an inability to express any emotions towards my parents, despite loving them (we didn't grow up in a family where we said that we love each other so it just seems odd saying it after all this time), but have now found out the perfect get-out clause in that I write them cards from my daughter and say "I love you" on the cards from her instead! Belle - I think I have AT LEAST two poo conversations a day. One with my husband to tell him what kind of poos our baby did whilst he was at work (!) and one poo conversation with whoever was babysitting her that day!

well that's an incentive to have a monthly EDM night out so you can get your twelve hours of peace and, well.... sanity! -
I quite like the Mukluk flipflop boots too. The knee high ones are pricey, and my feet are so massive that I'd probably look like I was wearing father Christmas boots, but might be worth trying on, I wonder if Stella B stock them? When I was preggers, I was only ever offered a seat once on the Number 12 bus by a woman who was pregnant, I felt bad taking her seat, but I was ready to pop I've breastfed on the loo quite a few times, luckily haven't done that for a long while now as that was particularly tricky.
-
You are so lucky you get a seat when you have your son in a sling. I always have my daughter in a sling, usually on my back, and have only been offered a seat once which is a bit annoying as she's 14 months now, so reasonably heavy. Although sometimes it's hard to see I have a baby on my back, you can usually only see her legs kicking away from the front. Knee high fit flops? I never knew such a thing existed - off to google now as I love my fit flops! yes, heels are long gone, but I think i'll dust off a pair to wear to the EDM evening out at the Plough! I have also noticed that even when I'm eating without my daughter on my lap, I still manage to cover myself in food. Hmm....

So what do we all want for Christmas?
lorraineliyanage replied to Mellors's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I saw the Brazilian hair straightening too in the Village at Harold George, but my hair's so long that it would cost about ?300 to straighten it and it only lasts about 3 months. Could probably get my hair blow dried twice a week for 3 months for that price (not that I would ever have the time to do that). I did invest in a Tangle Teezer (as seen on Dragon's Den!!) and it's pretty good at cutting through my super tangly snot-encrusted hair (baby's snot, not mine!) Molly, that second umbrella link looks so ridiculous, heh heh! -

I've just been out and about today picking up food that local companies have donated, will have to try not to scoff the chocolate panettone and mince pies that are sat in my kitchen calling my name!! :P On another note, we should organise an EDF Mums recital sometime, I have met a couple of mums on here who are opera singers who would love to perform but have put that to a side whilst they had babies. I am sure there are lots of talented mums on here... May have mentioned this before to you, but perhaps we could put the feelers out next year and see who'd be interested in performing?
