  1. Surrey Quays is busy, but less so the further up the hill you go. Jamaica Road at about 11 miles is a good spot.
  2. It's quite a distance from the tracks. You should worry more about the noise from the sorting office. Edit: thinking of wrong road! Should be alright tho
  3. Train isn't better if a lift's an option. Pickle is right that you can get right up to the start if you approach from Blackheath. Red Start (charity runners) is from Greenwich Park, but the others are on the Heath. Traffic is fine, or was last year. Presumably she's an elite woman if she starts at 9? Main race is 945.
  4. Agreed. I think Fury needs a top end trainer to work with him. He does have some raw talent and serious boxing ability.I wonder about his chin though. Eubank sr was one of the greatest British boxers. Teak tough brutality and serious boxing ability. His boy looks excellent.
  5. The Tyson Fury juggernaut ( chuggabug?) continues. He switched to southpaw for Rogan and dismantled him. With David Price and Anthony Joshua, I think there's real potential among British heavyweights.
  6. Helligan is well worth a visit. The 'jungle' in particular.
  7. Interesting to read that Computed. Can you be more precise about location? My best bet given your description is four hundred yards up Lyndhurst grove on the corner of Talfourd?
  8. Kitty If you want to put a new poster in the noticeboard, PM me. I have a key!
  9. I'd go German - a Passat with 50k on the clock (there's a good showroom in Norwood I think) or a slightly older Audi estate which you can pick up for 6k.
  10. He is actually rather good (his Carole King covers I like). He's also clearly down on his luck and suffering from alcoholism I think. I suggest you give him a quid.
  11. I am so sick and helpless in the face of these dickheads who own bull breeds and can't handle them. What is to be done? I'm so sorry to hear about this. I have a scar on my left calf when a bull breed bit me when I was out running in Burgess Park. The owners were a middle aged couple, do not the usual goon that own this type of dog. Pisses me off.
  12. Well there's probably more in it than homeopathy, but here you go: A study by two science professors at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine http://faculty.une.edu/com/shartman/sram.pdf Key quotes: "There is little science in any aspect of cranial osteopathy" and "We conclude that cranial osteopathy should be removed from curricula of colleges of osteopathic medicine and from osteopathic licensing examinations" A more blistering and readable assault from Hartman is here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1564028/ Key Quote: "This treatment regime lacks a biologically plausible mechanism, shows no diagnostic reliability, and offers little hope that any direct clinical effect will ever be shown. In spite of almost uniformly negative research findings, "cranial" methods remain popular with many practitioners and patients" Finally, if you're still awake, there's a very full discussion of the evidence on cranial here (and criticism from within the Osteopathic world): http://skepticbarista.wordpress.com/2011/02/01/osteopathya-question-of-evidence-part-1/ Key quote: "I certainly do not think that it can be accepted that Cranial Osteopathy is effective in the treatment of any condition" Is that alright f'yuz?
  13. David Congratulations! You're right of course. There is a difference between osteopathy and cranial osteopathy as far as I can be bothered to tell. The former is limited, but not entirely quacky if the claims for its efficacy are limited. Cranial osteopathy is pretty quacky though, although the direct physical contact no doubt can produce a strong placebo affect.
  14. Jelly Define your terms. Yours is an American misuse of the term 'liberal.' I fear you have tried and failed.
  15. Yes, very happy to lay into any religion ???s cites. I have a soft spot for the scientologists though. Very rational bunch.
  16. You won't get in the CW on mother's day without booking. Never been to the Recreation Ground.

    Rugby matters

I think the Irish scrum was getting worked over in the first half too. Bizarre because I thought they'd sorted out their problems there with Hayes' retirement. Gouging is what I heard, but haven't seen any citing yet.

    Rugby matters

Sweet bejesus. The humping Ireland got in the scrum today will haunt the generation who witnessed it. Even John Hayes never went backwards that quickly.
  20. Well done. I've tried, failed and succeeded to get funding from that fund. No mean feat.
  21. "Don't you love living in a democracy" Parliament could change the status of the Monarch if it so desired.
  22. 'question to supporters of the bill: leaving aside any proposals and politics - but as things stand, do you think the US has a better health service than the UK?' What's that got to do with the Bill?

    Rye Lane incident

Can't beleive the amount of rubber necking there was at this incident. I was walking from PR station to the car park at the Peckham end of Chadwick lane at about 5:30. Clearly the air ambulance had just landed in the car park because people were running towards the car park from all directions, some holding drinks they'd bought at Bar Story! they were then stood in a large group awaiting the poor sap the ambulance was there for. People eh. My life already.
  24. Eileen People who drink in Bar Story are part of Peckham's gentrification, not victims of it. What you're campaigning for with the station is unalloyed good news, as is the arrival of the ELL. Peckham and surrounding areas are full of cheap housing and social housing. My guess is the people you spoke to are interested in a certain type of housing in a limited area of Peckham. If the can't afford the rent west of Peckham Rye, then they'll need to move east or north.
  25. Here's the link http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/04/magazine/explaining-londoners.html?_r=3 Dalston is a better analog for the way Peckaham is going. Rough as hell, mixed population, lots of young arty types; and all the better for it.
