I think it's disgraceful because in place of humour (Paul Whitehouse used to be funny, even if Harry Enfield didn't), they've given in to rather pathetic middle-aged curmudgeonry: the traffic wardens are all out to get us and steal our hard-earned cash. To be fair, the one you've posted there Mick, actually makes me quite admire Parking Patewayo and his chariots o'skills, but I've seen a couple of others that are so anti-parking warden it made me want to write a very stiff letter of rebuke to Harry and Paul.

I am interested in discussions around vegetarianism, but I know what Huguenot means about screechy moralising - I've encountered that in the past, and frankly I think there's a tiny bit on this thread. However, I'm aware that eating less meat would be better for the environment. Did any of the meat eaters play along with Meat Free Mondays? I never did, which isn't to say that I don't have any meat-free days, just that they fall naturally within my diet rather than occurring on a given day. What sort of topics would you like to debate TM?

One of my favourite-ever sentences... Mark Twain on sentences: ?At times he may indulge himself with a long one, but he will make sure there are no folds in it, no vaguenesses, no parenthetical interruptions of its view as a whole; when he has done with it, it won't be a sea-serpent with half of its arches under the water; it will be a torch-light procession.? And that is why punctuation, and a little bit of pedantry, is your friend. Sadly, none of us is Mark Twain.

Well I am sporting a little Albion Trinketry (aka jewellery by a c**t for a c**t). And I've always despised Razorlight, so I'm halfway there, right? Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, I feel unwell

I was never Camden enough to pursue an active dislike of Travis. I liked it.

Spot on Quids - I loved the Britney cover (actually, I'm ashamed to say, to the point of contemplating downloading it). X Factor hasn't yet done 80s indie, but did you know that last year Strictly did a Buzzcocks number?

In fact if you do go, stay > for the community lunch (langar) and prashad > (dessert like holy offerings similar to semolina > pudding). haiks, I have always wanted to go along for langar, but, even though I hear tell of almost legendary welcome and hospitality, have felt too awkward to do so. It seems to me such a wonderful thing to do, but I'm not remotely godly, nor in need, so thought it might be taking the piss rather..?

Aquarius Moon, if there was any hijacking done, it was by Thomas himself. As I said in my first post, he posted the exact same post here, in the What's On section, and on someone else's entirely unrelated thread in the ED issues section. Three identical posts in three separate sections borders on spamming, and is not in the spirit of the forum (whether it actually breaks any rules, I'm sure Admin or one of the moderators could advise), and that's what I take issue with. I can assure you that I feel no guilt for my omnivorous ways. There is no projection on my part. I have thought about it. I have visited farms and abattoirs and remain of the fully-informed opinion that I am happy to eat meat. Tell me, did the stars suggest you write your supercilious and flounderingly inaccurate post? I find that Mystic Meg doesn't always get it quite on the button, so not to worry. Edited to add that I've just looked at the forum's terms of use and it doesn't say anything about blanket posting, and I'm quite sure that Thomas acted out of tremendous enthusiasm rather than a lentil-fuelled desire to conquer East Dulwich.

Huguenot, lovely Huguenot, sometimes you really are a freak of nature.

Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Although they can both be correct, I can't stand > s's. There is a big department store in Liverpool > called Lewis's, always made me seethe. But that's how you say it Keef - Lewises. Or do you say you're going to Lewis (ooh, like Morse)? Punctuation is your friend Keef - it's there to help you say it proper. Edited due to hangover spelling

Oh Steve and Reggie, ffs, personal respect for the pair of you aside, you're talking absolute cobblers. Twas ever thus - Reggie, producers only want celebrities on their shows? Well yah-ha, because they've already proven popular with the punters, so there's every chance that'll make their shows more popular too. There are opportunities aplenty for emerging talent - the notion of personal responsibility would suggest you use them, rather than slag off producers for giving Joe Public what he wants. Edited because Narnia said it pithier...

For "BBC Corruption" read "any celebrity interview in any newspaper / magazine / on TV ever".

dita, you raise an interesting point about not having been taught it at school: I learnt apostrophes and Crocodile Smiles, but for all else I'm self taught. Voracious reading and a sense of curiosity taught me what I needed to know - if people are interested, it's a piece of piss. If they don't care to find out, I wonder why they should care about getting it wrong.

Aren't we all? ;-)

Seriously Thomas, I know you're evangelical and all, but you've posted that at least three times in three separate sections, including on someone else's thread, which is just rude. Are you set on forum domination? Hmm, vegetarians, domination? This is heading towards Godwin's... Stop it.

Loving your work Carnell.

I learnt at school that 's follows a singular noun and ' follows a plural. However, be guided by how you pronounce it, i.e. if you say it Prince Charleses garden, then there should be the second s, and if you don't, then there shouldn't. But as Louisiana says, be guided by what they say themselves. Most people I know pronouce the hospital St Thomases, and it's a singular, but on the side of the building, it says St Thomas'. So, you know, it's fluid. As for licence, practice etc, an easy way to remember the Cs and Ss is Crocodile Smiles - nouns are C and verbs are S. Nice.

Stands up and applauds Admin. Never thought I'd say this, but lummy, poor Pearson. On reading this thread, at no point did I interpret Pearson's posts as saying what he has been accused of. I think some people on this thread just enjoy being belligerent. -
Lawks a lordy - I've posted more than Carnell. And have just worked out my posts per day rate and it's around 2 (although I think I lurked awhile afore I posted). I dread to think what Woof's posts per day rate would be...
