  1. It would be great if it were used as (almost) anything. FHR is looking better than ever, despite that eyesore near the barber's - the yellow and blue building. The William Hill is also empty, but both it and the former laundry look like something is happening with them. An extended Coop would be good.
  2. Soho House, Dulwich?
  3. Hotel du Vin, SE22!
  4. If not a restaurant (Pizza Express, Strada maybe?) - could it be turned into a small school or nursery (probably private)? I just can't see even a big "chain' food place doing well there but it would be good to have something useful and profitable there.
  5. Once again, it is a clash of attitudes, namely the "oh sod it, the rules don't apply to me and I really must have that pizza/curry leaf/bottle of cava" culture and the "I won't park there because it'll likely cause a lot of people inconvenience, and it's not allowed anyway" way of thinking. You have choices, people!
  6. I can think of a very good reason for there to be restrictions at the Sainsbury's Local, namely to avoid massive tailbacks all the way to Towny Road at peak times. I am always surprised that the usually vulture-like wardens seem to avoid ticketing Sainsbury's Local offenders (as they do the delivery vehicles on Rye Lane, but that's another story) and yet slap a ticket on people who are causing nowhere near as much congestion in other SE22 spots.
  7. Minitoots - Tell your neighbour to report them! Better still, take the trash back to them. It's the only way!
  8. Would poor peak-time transport encourage people to take advantage of any flexi working at their work, or ask their employer to introduce it? I know only a certain amount of people would be able to do it, but if the commute is debilitating then shifting the hours of work would be a solution.
  9. Get the 12 to Piccadilly Circus, then get the Piccadilly Line. It'll take probably two hours door-to-door and about ?7 or so. Yes, you'll have a bit of huff and puff with a suitcase, but it will encourage you to pack light (or do away with hold baggage altogether). The first Heathrow Tube is about 0540 from Piccadilly Circus so you can get there by 0700 if you needed to. (I've done it several times for 0900 flights for which I have had only hand luggage and already printed out my pass; it works.)

  11. Look at the Times for its fat diet. It was featured on Saturday, I think. Basically, only eat fatty foods and meats but don't eat starches and have no booze or juices. If it is a bit restrictive, eat about 130g of carbs a day. It is best not to do a diet, but to look at your food intake and exercise level and adjust accordingly. Booze is very calorific, so if you can nix that, your well on your way to shedding - and avoiding - adding pounds.
  12. I always say "hello" to the bus driver, realising that it must be a rarity for them to have any form of conversation with a punter unless it's one giving them aggro. I agree they ought to be paid more and that they do a tough job usually very well. However, I also note that a small minority drive too fast and occasionally go through red lights (which I pull them up over), which unsettles me. Combine such behaviour with that of the all-too-frequent jaywalking passenger and injury and death can't be too far behind.
  13. Invite some pals over, have a party, walk (or bus) it to Dawson's Heights with some fizz and some glasses in a rucksack, climb to the top just before midnight, watch fireworks and drink fizz, then go home twenty minutes later. Works every time.
  14. Thanks for the bin at CPR bus stop. It was there last week but I only just remembered to post. Now - trees: there are tree pits along Goodrich Road that need replanting, such as near to No 97.
  15. The Streatham Get 'Ems
  16. James, There used to be one at the Crystal Palace Road bus stop but it's no longer there. Shouldn't most well-used stops have a bin, or even two?
  17. The only way is up, folks. People complain about digging down, people complain about sprawl, so what other way is there to go? Five or six storeys would be completely in keeping with the council flats across the road. The flats where the cinema used to be are pretty tall but not overpowering.
  18. I recommend the Delaunay at Aldwych. You can book for breakfast/brunch or just turn up and they'll put you in the ante-room (not the cafe at the side).
  19. The best you can do, Alex K, is just do it and hope that your actions will encourage others. That's it - nothing more. This goes for leaf clearing/litter removal/fly-tipping reporting/hedge trimming, but expect to be deprecated as a busy-body by some.
  20. A cab driver I spoke to (black cab) said drivers are in favour of pedestrianisation of Oxford Street because they can get to most places on it via side streets and because it's too full of buses. A hop-on-hop-off free tram or trolley bus would be a good idea, he said, but I am not convinced. I doubt central London (Notting Hill to St Paul's, Euston to Waterloo) could ever become car-free, even on Sundays. Fewer buses at non-peak times would help a great deal in de-clogging the roads, but I'm not sure who would be brave enough to sell this to the public as an improvement.
  21. Lady N, I salute you. I doubt you'll get many acolytes but it's worth a try.
  22. I agree with Mustard. If you're infirm, disabled in some way or even just have a load of bags/dog on a lead/children it'd be annoying and possibly hazardous. What's wrong with common courtesy and thinking of others?
