  1. The main thing to note with these people is this Are they cross with the people who lied to them? Nope They are the same fertile ground for anti-eu propaganda and sentiment they always were If I were a progressive sort, who wanted Brexit, I would be worried about where such misplaced anger might lead us
  2. The fact that this is only dawning on them now, 5 years into the whole thing speaks badly of an Education system And Media Are they small in number, people who think like this? My guess is no. The whole thing was promised on lies of nothing changing, all winning. This is brits on holiday - but it applies to fishing, Northern Ireland and rest of it
  3. The people quoted in this article. I mean really Why is it bad form to call them dim? What other word would be appropriate? https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1437009/brexit-news-latest-spain-visa-europe-summer-holidays-british-expats-eu-tourism-latest
  4. sounds unpleasant Monica out of interest, what would the medical outcome be if you wore a mask?
  5. "Black Cherry, Inside 72, the Drum and Liquorish all gone sadly." of those that remain, only a few are even vaguely like what they were EDT Castle erm.. that's about it
  6. My sympathies RonniJ it is amazing, isn't it, how many people who are medically "exempt" also happen to believe this is a government brainwash exercise
  7. so Foxy, if I'm reading you correctly you are saying arbitrary nonsensical rules (such as colour of your car on alternate days) are equivalent to long-term plans to combat air pollution What would be a better way to tackle air pollution re: older cars? Drivers have more rules imposed because we cause more problems - wether it's congestion, air pollution, deaths, road rage etc -
  8. Oooh and this is before I even get into the volume of people who think indicating is for suckers It?s the Wild West out there!
  9. Chick. You?ve met me several times. If it was about this subject it?s possible i would be Written warnings etc sound reasonable but A) sheer volume of people doing this means it would be massively costly B) most likely ineffective I can agree that accidentally straying into a bus lane can seem overly harsh - but that?s at an individual level. At a city wide level it?s happening all the time And lastly, you didn?t start a thread asking if 65 Quid was a bit harsh for accidentally slipping into a bus lane. You said council are putting up cameras as nothing more than a cash grab. You say you aren?t advocating breaking the rules but it?s happening by the minute. That?s the real issue If it was ONLy An accidental and occasional driver doing a whoopsie there wouldn?t be a problem and there wouldn?t need to be such strict penalties. But we are where we are
  10. I see it all over lockdown as well as places open up for takeaways There I go every weekend, park at the free (after 5pm anyway) , near empty car park about 50 yards away from the pub/restaurant. Then I walk past several cars all parked up on double-yellow lines, blocking traffic on a narrow street lazy, entitled (and in my experience, aggressive) tossers is this related to financial penalties? It';s all breaking the Highway Code and if they were fined for this behaviour they wouldn't hold their hands up and say "it's a fair cop guv" - they would just moan about "revenue raising"
  11. A bit literal whoeveritis I don?t really want them jailed or fined. But whatever ?punishment? is meted out its self inflicted. Be respectful of other?s space and time, abide by the rules you signed up to when you passed your test and everyone?s a winner. No entrapment. No fines. No jail. No silly threads
  12. My other half has a small limited company and after years of More accounting software https://www.moresoftware.biz she migrated to QuickBooks https://quickbooks.intuit.com/uk/ Which she much prefers That being said, QuickBooks is cloud based, whereas More is in insulated program on Windows - which can be a dealbreaker for some people (personally every time I looked at More, it looked like a VBA program from 1997, but that's just me. Maybe it's been upgraded since)
  13. People who leave litter and drive badly Fine them both to hell. Jail Em Just make them stop
  14. There is no revenue! If you don?t break the rules you learned. I have never paid a penny. How much have you paid? If it?s nothing them there is no revenue If it?s lots then you are just a bad driver When my way is blocked by someone in a junction or parked on double yellows I want them more than fined
  15. If something would fail your driving test, don?t bitch about getting fined for same thing
  16. No infraction no revenue This isn?t hard
  17. who defines minor? is it you? or is it people who have to make a decision on how to keep traffic in a global city moving? Where, without fines (or other punishment, you can offer your own?) people left to their own devices will just clog up every road? If a box junction suddenly appears - how do you decide it isn't necessary? How is it entrapment? You drive along the road, any road and if you see a box junction you don't enter it unless etc etc - how is that in any way entrapment?
  18. sorry - what's the problem here? You want to enter box junctions, park on double yellow lines?
  19. oh yeah - I forgot to mention the fallout from Scottish Independence - that is going to have quite the bearing on next election - so most of the govt bandwidth will be strategising on how to minimise the blame/fallout by bringing a GE forward
  20. Yep - I'm minded to agree with DR here The reason this is happening now, is because (as we have seen with the queen's speech) the ideas cupboard is bare - apart from "getting brexit done" and getting thru COVID there are no ideas to actually take the country forward But the headwinds of ongoing Brexit-fallout and Austerity 2.0 (much worse than before) mean this government is going to get massively unpopular - so they need to put steps in place to "help" as much as possible
  21. on subject of fishing - the recent Jersey brouhaha summarised well here: https://unherd.com/thepost/ceasefire-declared-in-the-great-jersey-france-whelk-war/
  22. You were the one the brought the fishing dispute into a discussion about how EU citizens are shamefully treated in UK Most nations have trade agreements based on a willingness to give up some sovereignty to gain advantage (with relative power playing a part) UK has spent most of it's time doing the opposite and won't countenance ANY ceding of sovereignty - especially involving EU. SO the problems are not going away any time soon I didn't say the EU is doing the right thing - I said the French were well within their rights
  23. "becuase they want better access for their fisherman to UK waters." and isn't this a misrepresentation of what's happening. Isn't what's happening the French are protesting because the UK broke the terms of the agreement, not because the French don't like the agreement
  24. "I mean, how about the French purposefully holding up the deal that was about to be announced for financial services becuase they want better access for their fisherman to UK waters. If this was the UK doing this, " this would not have been possible with UK as member of EU - but once again, only UK CHOSE THIS PATH! People warned the UK they would be treated as a third country and were dismissed The French are well within their rights to do this - they have not lied about the effects of Brexit to achieve it EU citizens being treated like this in the UK was another worry for Remainers - again, dismissed But both are a consequence of something that only the UK wanted - neither would be happening without Brexit. Brexit enables this
  25. I mean - there is just something fundamentally wrong going on
