  2. I never understood why Jesus gave up and died rather than continue on his great work. I was the son of God then I would stay alive and continue to do good things and that includes not allowing bad things to happen, like this.
  3. Bizzy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > - It is hard to understand the Bible when you haven?t accepted Jesus as your savior. Can't argue with that, well you can, but there's just no point really.
  4. When a stage hypnotist asks for volunteers to come on stage, those people have passed the first "test", they are wanting and more importantly willing for things to be done to them. And you cannot force someone to be hypnotised who does not want to. The same goes for Alpha courses, you are wanting and willing to hear something that you want to hear, they're just going to massage the frail and uncertain bit in your head and bind it with Jesus. I have spoken to Alpha course leaders and as someone who was not "willing to go up on their stage" they simply say that I have not found the way yet. You can't argue with them as they will just keep saying "when you find Jesus you will find yourself" etc which to me is nonsense. I don't need someone to make me create a missing void in my life and then they conveniently have something to fill it. At the end of the day it's just the church rebranded to make it easier to take in, like when Neurofen brought out the "no water needed caplets", same shit just an easier way for the masses to swallow it.
  5. I'll answer this one if I may Admin. Thanks for the good suggestion Marmora Man we're looking into it now, do you think that is should stay as those three sections: Wanted Offered Recommendations ?
  6. Is this going to happen every year HeidiHi? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,89922,90027#msg-90027
  7. I've put all three blurry videos, including one of Steve Boltz, in the What's on section
  8. Hi Karter, we did think about "Best Dressed Window Display" but not all shops have a dressed window display (but they all have a front), "Best Shop Front" gives more shops the opportunity to be included in the awards. And yes bossboss, we're aiming to get flyers/posters out to the nominees where possible, raising sponsorship will help us achieve this and make as many people aware if it as possible. And re: Hoopers, as mentioned in the original thread about the awards, "the border will be SE22/East Dulwich, we have to draw a line somewhere and the SE22 border seems like the most obvious way to do it ... but we would consider moving it based on nominations received."
  9. I can confirm that it was indeed a very good night with a great atmosphere, in fact here's a video of the Durrel Family. Sorry about the broken focus and blurred picture but it sounds darn good....
  10. We were thinking of which place provides the "Best Customer Service Experience" but if we change it to "Best Customer Service" it'll cover all bases and remove the uncertainty. I hope that clarifies it and thanks for the comment.
  11. See you there about 8:30ish
  12. I think there's lots of your point 3) in there. I see posters outside churches saying "repent or be damned", "there is only one God inside you", "for He's a jolly good fellow" etc and it's quite a good to know that there are others out there who feel the same annoyance with these and supported the bus poster. You're not going to convert anyone with the bus poster but hopefully it'll make people think (point 2)) or realise that they don't have to shut up and put up with the Word of God(s) i.e. it's not wrong to not believe in a sky fairy. And remember Atheists don't have their own buildings around the world where they get together and worship so it's hard to get a message to them when they're a captive audience, like a church does. I guess the side of a bus is just another way of saying to them, be reassured you're not alone in this world. Amen
  13. Horray! Radio 4's Thought for the Day is having a non-religious speaker tomorrow, ok it's a Saturday but it's a start. I've complained to R4 before about the crap that's sprouted in the morning by the religious speakers so I'm happy that they have allowed this. To those who don't know, the Thought for the Day's speakers usually say something like: 1) here's something bad that's happening at the moment (credit crunch, Israel, big accident etc) 2) here's what Jesus/Allah etc said about something that's not related to point 1) but we'll word it so it's similar 3) We have to understand that it's a challenge and that we must come together/help/love each other and/or look inside ourselves and it'll be fine, God says so. Saying that, I do pray that something worthwhile is said tomorrow.
  14. >Can you clarify if The Plough will count? If it's nominated then it'll be counted (within reason)
  15. Seriously Keef? Off the top of my head... ED Warehouse, Green Cuisine, Foxtons, Dream Machine, Hoopers, the new curry place, Lucas bakery, Mrs Robinson boutique, The Lodge, Davina shoes, Magnolia, Locale, Balfes Bikes, ESPH, Franklins Deli (at least I think they're newcomers but I can check). There's bound to be more but of course if you don't have a favourite newcomer then don't nominate one when the time comes.
  16. After many hours of careful consideration the categories for the East Dulwich Awards 2009 have been chosen and they are (in no particular order): Best Coffee Best Food Shop Best Shop Best Shop Front Most Child Friendly Place Best Bar Best Sunday Lunch Best Curry Best newcomer (in the last 2 years) Best Restaurant Favourite forum person Best Customer Service Experience and The Best in East Dulwich (overall winner from the above categories, rather like Best in Show) --------------------------- You can start nominating your choices in a few weeks, we'll post further details on here and we'll also send out emails as reminders. If you, your boss, or someone you know would be willing to sponsor and be promoted to the 6,900 registered users of the Forum as well as the associated publicity please let us know - email [email protected] or send me a Private Message. Thanks and start thinking about who you would nominate. Mark & Paul
  17. If the statement had read "There is no God..." then that would have offended religious groups and the Advertising Standards Authority would not have allowed it, so they had to compromise and stick "probably" in there. My sign would say something like: If there is a God why does he allow the killing of innocent schoolchildren? It's because he doesn't exist, accept it and enjoy being more responsible for the world around you. I know it's not as amusing but may get the message across. [edited once]
  18. karter Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What happened to the crack international team of geekoid techies ...? They're on extended holiday now, you only mentioned the selectDNA kit information before so that's what the they copied and pasted. If there's other information on the PDF that you think is useful you should paste it on here.
  19. I'm a citizen and I emailed the Met for a SelectDNA kit and haven't heard a peep from them. ps eater81, you're not a law abiding citizen, you told us here that you broke the law, ergo the rest of your message is unreliable/poop. And do you really think that I SHOULD worry about what they're going to do with my electrical good's DNA? What about my white good's DNA? If they imprisoned my fridge for having a certain characteristic I'd be stuck, well for a bit anyway until I got a new one.
  20. I need the Rosetta Stone to decrypt these strange hieroglyphics, or can someone on here translate for me please?
  21. -- moved topic --
  22. The categories have been decided to I'm going to ask Admin to move this to the Lounge please as it's gone off topic. I'll start a new thread about the categories.
  23. There's a link saying "Donate" which is always at the bottom of every page. Thanks woodie
