> Why not say 'no thanks I don't give to charity' because that would be a lie, I do give to charity. Having worked in Victoria I can relate to James on getting pestered by these collectors every lunchtime. "Hi, can you spare 2 minutes to save a child's life?" please don't make me feel guilty by walking past you, you're a salesman making/taking commission from a good cause. I prefer the people who stand there and collect with a tin (which I've done before) as you can give them some money and have a nice chat.

Just shrug when they approach you and say "Sorry, I don't speak English" works every time

perhaps it could be a newsagents, there's already 5 in a 200yd radius of there so one more won't matter. On Cl****m High street there's a massive Sainsburys and a smaller one about 500 yds away, the smaller one was bought by Sainsburys a few years ago when it came up for sale (even though it's really close to the massive one) so that Tescos couldn't buy it. Now I notice there's a big spanking new Tescos opening up right in the middle of the two, I guess it's war between those two. Now I'm not wanting to get into a debate about the similarities of the two areas but the point is that the big name supermarkets will do anything to make an impact on an area. That shop opposite the station would make a great supermarket express/local/kwike-mart as it would be seen by everyone who walks out the station. Fill it wall to wall with ready-meals, milk and posh looking wine and it can't fail. My bet is on it being a mini-supermarket (but I haven't a clue how much floor space and storage there is)

I'm not saying it should but if the Foxton's hoardings were graffitied (?) what do you think it would say? Foxton's is hard to swallow Foxtoff Foxtons

Lilly123, you should have taken the poor child from the car and hidden it from the cruel parents, that would have taught them a lesson eh?

Improving East Dulwich - community grant
Mark replied to monica's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree that there's needy people but when a council have assigned money to a community grant then it's available for the local population to take up the offer and do something for the community. There are separate grants available for things like insulation etc. but it'll be silly of us not to take up this opportunity to do something. Monica, where can we find out more information on this particular grant you mentioned? -
Improving East Dulwich - community grant

How much is available? Are we talking ?50 for some flower pots or ?5 million for an arts/cultural centre ot somewhere in between? I like the idea of a big clean up, perhaps offering money towards new signage for (book)shops, hanging plants etc and just making the place cleaner so we can be prouder of it. Then spending the leftover on a party! [edited once] -
Ahhh, you're from Dagen'am?

ChavWivaLawDegree - Is your dog Hannibal named after John "Hannibal" Smith, leader of The A-Team or Hannibal Lecter, the infamous cannibalistic serial killer? My guess is the latter and if so didn't you think that calling a dog after a killer gives off a certain impression? I may be wrong and you've named it after the Hannibal who's famous for crossing the Alps with elephants but as most people know Hannibal Lecter, the twisted, psychopathic murderer, surely calling that name across a park does not install a feeling of loving warmth amongst those in earshot?

"yeah, so what if I am, what you gonna do about it?" twat

I suggest that this discussion doesn't go off on a "what is a chav" debate, it's about the dogs off lead petition.

ok, so david_carnell wrote about Peckham Rye being common land and I wrote to the council this morning and asked: "Is Peckham Rye common land and if so would it be covered by the proposed keeping dogs on leads ruling that may be brought in?" and this reply came back: "I am not sure of the legal status of Peckham Rye in terms of common land, but to answer the more specific point, there is no proposal to keep dogs on leads in Southwark's parks and open spaces (including Peckham Rye). This is mis-information. A full statement will be issued to this effect today" hmmmm, curious...

Can I just draw people's attention to the Residential property in East Dulwich section of this website. People can advertise their house/flat or their requirements for a property in the area for free. Use it in conjunction with an Estate Agent or instead of. No charge. No catch.

Blimey! I was bitten in the face by a dog once when I was eight, still have the scars. Love dogs now though but do find a teeny minority of dog walkers in the city rude, especially that one a couple of weeks ago who became aggressive when I told him and his dog politely that they were in a dog free area on Goose Green. And the fat guy with the two big husky dogs who became rude when I told him they shouldn't be in the dog free area, I don't care if he works for the Parks Department. Anyway, if you think it's unfair of Southwark Council to impose "a borough wide blanket Dog Control Order that requires all dogs, regardless of size or temperament, to be kept on a lead except in a few designated 'dog exercise areas" go to this site http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Southwarkhowl/index.html

The hoardings of the White Stuff have been daubed with graffiti. The graffiti says things like: White Stuff is hard to swallow F*ck off you capitalist c**ts Shite Stuff There goes the neighborhood Too right you yuppie tw*ts Arsenal Jake Mushies here you go, I have to point out that the people in the photo are innocent bystanders: The other general thread about White Stuff is here

How many different nationalities in Dulwich

I wonder if that's the same Claudette who answered my email to environmental services last night about 10:30? I filled in the online form to say my garden waste hadn't been collected (as usual) and the automated reply came from Claudette, I guess she's the council's version of Holly from Red Dwarf. Or Avon.
