So you're saying that the US and UK are sanctioning the use of suicide bombers now Wow Did we also not go to the moon, aliens are real and running the US government, and Elvis shot Kennedy before riding off on Sherguard to have an illicit affair with Lord Lucan ? Hope you've got your tin foil helmet on to stop the radio waves from altering your thinking...

Spring time, sadly the level was raised just before an explosion so it was possibly raised as a result of on the ground intelligence rather than part of a conspiracy

You know, that thing caused > by burning fossil fuels. In that case why are the council causing congestion on surrounding roads as a result of LTNs which increases pollution being pumped out by stationary traffic and ignoring this fact as they want to claim LTNs work ? The ULEZ will remove some pollutants and moving to electric or hydrogen will get rid of the rest that are related to motoring but compressing traffic into fewer roads won't ! Another problem we have is that nations like China are expanding their pollution quicker then we reduce it so if you really want to make an impact find a solution to the developing world using fossil fuels as well as us reducing their use. As I said earlier those who want to walk or cycle do, and those that need to use a car will still need to use a car and no amount of inconvenience will stop them. If you want to understand the psyche of why then just look at smokers still willing to pay ?10 to ?12 for the privilege despite the price being increased to try and price them out of smoking ...human nature being what it is !

Food shops weren't closed 😱

I think the issue is local delivery not outgoing mail as that's sorted by a central office not a local office.

DulwichCentral Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Would that be gradual change like erm a global > pandemic? > > Business models and marketing strategies are > currently disrupted *worldwide*. > But hey - what's happened in little old Dulwich > Village is all Southwark Councils fault. Let's take a serious look at how shopping habits changed during the peak of the pandemic. Supermarkets were felt by many to be too risky to go to so there was a massive surge in shopping locally partly because smaller shops were felt to be a safer option and partly because delivery slots were rarer than hens teeth (so not everyone moved to online shopping) If businesses in a location are saying that this shift to local didn't happen due to LTNs then maybe they have a serious point and it should be looked into and not dismissed so lightly. The concept of more people will walk to a local shop if it's harder to drive is flawed as those that want to walk or cycle already do and those that are slightly further out or have mobility issues will choose to shop at easier locations which is why there's a drop in trade being observed. So dismissing the lack of customers as a result of business model bring disrupted by a global pandemic is laughable Another example is the rash decision to exclude busses from Rye Lane where some traders are experiencing similar issues as customers are going to locations where they can get to via public transport with ease.

Can I add "Low Traffic Neighbourhood" A travesty and bastardisation of the English language 😱 -
There was a system near Hamburg airport which acted as a middle lane to relive traffic pressure In the morning it operated in one direction, then for half an hour after lunch it closed and reopened in the opposite direction so it acted as a tidal flow for the peak traffic Abe's concept isn't far wrong with a tidal system for buses so that in the morning a 1am till 2pm bus lane towards central London could operate and cars have to use the central tidal flow lane only, with the evening switching to a 3pm till midnight bus lane operating out from central London and cars going the opposite way in the tidal flow lane. Downside is most British drivers would get confused and complain about bus lane fines but in narrowish roads I could see it working. But then again I'm not a council highways engineer so what do I know !

LIKE As in "I done this like and then we went to there like" WTF -
You're right rah x3, but nor is cycling They are both part of a wider solution that also needs massive public transport investment and that's the crux of this problem. No one is willing to commit to massive investment so the cheapest and quickest idea is implemented which just won't tempt people our of cars but does tick the "we're trying" box. Maybe there needs to be some sort of public private push which was how the UK rail networks were built. But not in the same way we privatised the railways where profits are the goal to running a franchise, more of a you build it and run it and the government will clear all red tape to make it happen style of approach. But that's just one possibility out if many.

Mom and Pop Very American, even worse when used to describe a family run business (Mom and Pop business) -
People who take a few specific words out of a post and twist them to suit their agenda and fail to recognise the context or wider point they were in.

Billy, the real issue is that people won't give up cars unless there are viable alternative services, as highlighted by heart block. The improvement to public transport needs to be either before or in parallel to reducing car usage. It's not acceptable to give up something that currently works for something that just isn't there, within a short time people will revert. So saying give up your car and buses will run faster isn't the right way. However saying there's more buses so it's easier to give up your car is. As a couple of observations, during school holidays when buses are on emptier roads, they don't run faster or more frequently as "this bus is being held to regulate the service" And Unicorn farts are the worst for pollution, stop using your flying chariot for Grud's sake and be environmentally responsible 😱

England didn't > win the World Cup? Bloody Southwark! Rained on my > morning walk? Stupid councillors! Train drivers > getting COVID? Lazy bleeding Southwark again! Amazing, you are so blinkered that you take a quote and twist it But to put it in hill billy talk for you The local authority need to be on top of all transport issues (be it reduced train services, bus issues ...) and , for example, adjust their policies around road networks to ensure people and goods keep moving. Equally they need to be able to put pressure on other transport providers to ensure an area that already has a low PTAL score isn't impacted. Yet as we've seen when the no 40 was diverted from London bridge, despite local outcry the council did nothing to support their residents and the change occurs. It's not about training drivers, but by representing the area, some changes may not occur when they are proposed.

Exactly rockets, DKHB just looks from their ivory tower on the top of the hill overlooking the JS car park and can't see the bigger picture or that every action by the council seems to have a opposite and negative reaction. Perhaps after the consultation, and if the results are similar to Ealing's resounding no to LTNs, then the council may start to work with the wider stakeholder group to design a solution that works for everyone and not just Lycra lovies

What exactly do > you expect a Southwark councillor to do about a > shortage of train drivers aggravated by COVID? Physically to replace staff sickness, nothing, however to put pressure on the train operators to balance out which trains are kept and which are cut to balance the network, then the council and our MPs should be involved. Equally to understand the squeezes on public transport and adjust the local policies including road closures, then I would fully expect the local councillors to be in the loop and make informed decisions rather than sticking their fingers in their ears saying "la la la can't hear you" So in answer to your point, the local authority need to be on top of things like this and be proactive about keeping things moving and ensure that East Dulwich and surrounding areas are accessible for all and not just the fully mobile or able to cycle residents.

Cat , that's a bit of an obsolete question. If it was a hot tub time machine ICIANCHI would have obviously gone back and answered their own question before they even asked it so obviously it's a normal garden or wife swapping variety they are after !

Croydon's scheme was mention on Joe Lycett's got your back. Seems to imply it's about raising funds not reducing vehicle usage (but that's my take)
