I have to wonder if President Biden will regret his statement of "If anything, the developments of the past week reinforce that ending US military involvement in Afghanistan now was the right decision" should there be a resurgence of terrorism against the US.

Then for fun, try living in a wheelchair for a period of say a month, including using a commode chair to go to the toilet because your toilet isn't big enough to transfer from a wheelchair or having to use a stairlift to go between floors because steps are beyond you or having people bathe you because a shower or bath is a,step to far. Once, and only once you've lived in the wheels of a disabled person, without cheating, will you realise how insulting and arrogant you come across in your posts. You may be called Dulwich Central but the world really doesn't revolve around you sweetie.

Ah the joys of a highway engineers design to reduce traffic on the Walworth Road (narrowing the road to make it harder to drive along) has apparently backfired as it causes bus congestion. Guess the real solution here is to return the road back to full width again which gives buses the ability to pass each other. Then focus on bolder public transport projects. But then the highway engineers will argue that it gives access to car drivers ... Why oh why were we so short sighted in years gone by and got rid of electric trams and replaced them with Diesel buses and didn't invest in public transport when we should have rather than pushing the car dream , because if we did this, this whole debate and LTNs wouldn't exist. But then what would we do to amuse ourselves ?

You are so blinkered that you think a rational response about why a mobility scooter isn't the answer is abusive that you then try and turn the tables Maybe I was incorrect in calling you a make chicken, you are far far below that on the evolutionary scale if you are so disability blind. Maybe try watching the paralympics in a few weeks to see how many different disabilities there are out there (including the blind who can't drive themselves) then come crawling back on here and say that they could all use mobility scooters (I can't wait for the rants on here if every street was taken up by mobility scooters by the way) If we are all to use mobility scooters the council will have to spend a fortune on improving the pavements as they are currently not good enough for wheelchairs let alone mobility scooters!

DulwichCentral Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Those against: Because they are disabled. > Those for: What about mobility scooters? What a "male chicken" for making a statement like that Mobility scooters aren't wheelchair friendly for example , some disabled people need to be driven so how does that work with a scooter (plus the car is then not single occupancy) Some disabled people are children (see above argument) Stop scratching in the dirt with your claws and open your eyes as not everyone has the same needs, disability or mobility so by denying them access to a car you might well be condemning them to being stuck indoors and a less rich life Roads must be for all users, not just the fit healthy able bodied ones and if that sticks in your craw then get on your bike and pedal off (that's assuming your able bodied of course) Rant over.

really independent advice on equity release needed
Spartacus replied to renarde's topic in The Lounge
I have to wonder if in a few years time, equity release schemes will be the next PPI type scandal. After all these companies, whilst giving you instant cash, are going to want to make as much money from their investment as they can. I can see the legal adverts in 10 years "My holiday was on my house, but my children were left with nothing by the equity company" -

The rise of the SUV is an interesting discussion point. Is it the public's fault for being brainwashed by advertisers for wanting one ? Is it the manufacturer's fault for building them in the first place ? Or is it a combination of manufactures and the public both believing it's what the other wants ? It's crazy in an age where we are trying to make better use of the road space for all and more fuel efficient transport, that the government allows the sales of large SUVs and advertising pushes them (at least 25% of car adverts seem to be for a SUV). Maybe there needs to be a push from central government to make large SUVs less attractive and at the same time make sure that those who need off road capacity (farmers, life guards ....) can get it. Oh and the argument above to return to car designs of the 60s, at least they had style and character rather than being jelly mould shapes. (My opinion is purely based on looks not functionality or safety features)

Today, 3rd of August 2021, the travel industry "welcomed" the scrapping of the idea of an amber watch list idea. This watch list would have alerted travellers and the travel industry when a country has strong potential to move from "amber" to "red" but the industry said it was too complicated to get across to the public (I guess the red, red amber, green, amber sequence used in the road traffic light system is also far too complicated for most road users in that case) The prediction is as follows : as soon as a country (let's say Spain for discussions sake) moves from Amber to Red, the same travel industry who rejected the idea of an amber watch list will be jumping up and down saying "but you didn't warn us this was going to happen and there's not enough time to get people back" Of course not even Nostradamus got every prediction right 🤔

Shakespeare was a cockney init, he built 'is t'eater on the banks of old father and I suspect Romeo and Juliet went "Romeo Romeo where the bleeding 'eck is ya, get up me apples and get in me Uncle with your Hampton cos I'm gagging for it." But one could be wrong couldn't one !

Gala setting up on Peckham Rye

You of course realise that RCH, who has complained as per her post above, was a local councillor who possibly still has a lot of influence in council chambers. So don't be so sure your comment above is accurate. Still you're young, you'll learn when you grow up I guess (paraphrasing your comment about others growing up) -

Deep in the middle of Burges park would be a good venue as few houses around the central part. -

Funny how things go in circles isnt > it? Isn't it My generation grew up with acid house, raves and warehouse parties and I love the fact that a lot of "your music" samples a lot of my generations music so obviously appreciation isn't the issue here. The question really is : is there a better location in the borough that satisfies everyone ?
