  2. I have to wonder why the council have extended the consultation. In my mind there are various scenarios: 1. They wanted to put out the traffic data, however that won't effect people who have completed it already. 2. They don't have many responses so providing extra time to gather a few more. 3. The responses they have so far aren't saying what the council wants to hear so more time has been added to bring in extra support for the LTNs (potentially from outside groups) I'll let others suggest scenarios and mull over the reasons why.
  3. I hope the family are all okay and what a terrible thing to have happened. Edcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Despicable but unsurprising, given the atmosphere > the tories have created over the last few years. 😱 "Boris made me drink and act like a total twonk" claimed a football fan. That's a bit of a random association edcam especially as football thugs have been around almost as long as football has been played, so I suspect it was spured on by drink and a lack of emotional intelligence!
  4. Just received this Dear all, Thank you for your continued engagement with our Review of the road schemes in Dulwich Village, East Dulwich and Champion Hill. Thousands of residents have already completed the consultation which can be found at https://www.southwark.gov.uk/dulwichstreetspacereview We want to allow some extra time for those who have not yet completed it, so we are extending the deadline to Sunday 18th July. We have also published a report on the monitoring data that we have obtained over the past couple of months. You can view this at https://www.southwark.gov.uk/dulwichstreetspacereview . We are going to hold an extra community meeting to discuss the data and what it tells us about the road schemes, on Tuesday 13th July 6pm. This will be an online meeting ? to register for the meeting please go to https://dulwichreviewdata.eventbrite.co.uk Kind regards, Southwark Highways

The ironic thing is that the house you passed possibly is one of the few who can afford to convert their cars to fully electric so may well be part of the solution (providing they embrace electric cars)
  6. There's a bloke in the Surrey Quays chip shop who swears he's Elvis ...
  7. Maybe the council will use the ?3000 allocated to "dulwich square" events to put up an outdoor screen to show the game. But then again ....
  8. Javid today said he expected up-to 100 thousand cases a day as a result of removing restrictions TfL are reviewing what they can do post the 17th to make mask wearing a requirement on public transport but if they don't then passenger numbers will decline again as some people won't feel safe or feel isolated by non mask wearers. If that happens more people will drive and roads will get more congested My comment is standby for chaos and if only 10% of the predicted infections get long covid then just wait to see how the NHS copes with that in the future. The 17th is a ticking time bomb that someone has to disarm whilst the delta and delta plus variants are on the rise.
  9. The supporting act for the briefing (Witty and Valance) made it obvious that they didn't agree with removing the need for masks...
  10. Populist for who ? Not the NHS that's for sure or those who die if they catch it!
  11. DR Truth in all that you say There seems to be some pressure by back benches / others to unlock but they aren't in the firing line if it goes wrong (which I prey it won't)

Is it as simple as that ? With vaccination it breaks the chain of infection (but doesn't eliminate it) Reducing infection reduces the number of people who each infected person can also infect Vaccination assists in reducing the chance of serious hospital admissions and the need for ventilation So whilst there will be an uptick in deaths, I think the calculation of 170 above needs to be taken with caution but still a worrying number of people will die that shouldn't have. However nothing will be true if the next variant gets through anti bodies / vaccinations then we will be back at the start of the pandemic again 😱

  15. Whilst it may be genuine (the jury's still out in my head) it's unsolicited mail that many will push to their spam folder and with both parts of the security code being sent out to an email address that hasn't been verified as exclusive (not a shared inbox) or secure (password cracked or device infected) then there is a risk of data being breached. Maybe the council should have sent an email out in advance asking if you want to receive your form via email or post rather than the way they have done it.🤔
  16. There's an interesting question over what's going to cause more resistance to following the rules. A politician having an affair or the images of sports people at events like the euros and Wimbledon hugging and shaking hands and the proximity of crowd members to each other? Basically both are as bad as each other and as seabag said people are getting mask fatigue. It's not being helped with infections going up and Javid saying that "there's a compelling argument for easing covid restrictions" and "we also need to be clear that cases are going to rise significantly" It's giving the green light to ignore restrictions now and it's going to end with more tears than Gazza during italia 90.
  17. Tonight I received an email entitled "London Borough of Southwark ? Electoral Register Canvass 2021" From : [email protected] It contains "You must take action so we can check who is eligible to register to vote at your address. It only takes just a few minutes online. You cannot reply directly to this email. To check the details we hold for your household on the Electoral Register, please go to: https: //householdresponse.com/southwark On the login screen, please enter your unique security code: And contains what appears to be part 1 and part 2 of my security code. It looks genuine but coming out of the blue and with no information that I can find on southwarks website I am more than suspicious. Has anyone else received one and why in the days of phishing does stuff like this get emailed out with both parts of my security code. If it's real and intercepted then it allows someone to see my private data (make address, dob ...) Someone really hasn't thought this through.
  18. I think BB did say it's not a holiday notimpressed It does lead to a mute point that those isolating and doing the test day 5 are having to travel to test centre , possibly by public transport or taxi, to do it. Kind of defeats the objective 😱
  19. Otto No one is saying anything against (as you said) "This is not an argument in favour of the current LTNs but why would we not aim high on encouraging and facilitating active travel." It's horses for courses, some people rely on a car, others like to walk or cycle and the problem is the LTNs are like using an atom bomb to crack a walnut. The fallout is felt far and wide after. If active travel allowed fairer shared use of the road network by all (not excluding one group in favour of the other) then that is the way forward. But the council seems to want to paint cars as demon machines and banish them to the forbidden zone which is where the issue comes from. If only councils talked and listened to residents and businesses then a fairer scheme might just be implemented.
  20. I bet the council would still find an excuse to put in traffic measures if George Jetson was around
  21. Dogkennelhillbilly Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > This is just silly, and classic "pub bore knows > more than entire highway engineering and urban > planning professions" waffle. > Never a truer word spoken in jest Billy, never a truer word Most people who live and work in an area know more then highway engineers who possibly commute in from outside the borough. Remember highway engineers need to justify their role when new roads aren't being built so they seem to constantly tinker with existing roads to keep themselves busy. Maybe we should get rid of them all and just call in a consultant when new roads / estates are built. But that's my opinion and perception
  22. Fishbiscuits, I think you are right about needing to wear masks for a lot longer. Although a lot of people who do bother to wear them where required seem to pay "lip service" to the concept by leaving their noses exposed or wearing the mask as a chin guard only. This includes on public transport and strangely when walking around in hospitals. The other weird thing is people who remove masks to talk loudly on their phone. It doesn't make a difference to the call quality but does spread droplets as they jabber away. They seem to forget that the mask isn't only there to protect them, but those around them too.
  23. I wonder if there are mixed messages being presented by some businesses in their advertising. For example the new Tesco advert where the lady zooms around zapping prices with her club card, not a single person in the supermarket is wearing a mask which could normalise non compliance in some people's eyes. Whilst we hope not to need them soon, over the past year why haven't advertisers modified adverts to help reinforce the mask indoors rules ?
  24. Bic The following link may help as there are plans afoot to add lifts for disabled people so the ability for them to actually get to the station is important https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/kent/kent-and-south-east-london-railway-upgrade-plan/peckham-rye-station-redevelopment/ The comments about delivery lorries blocking the lane can easily be solved by moving the bus gate from Dulwich village to Rye Lane thus restricting when deliveries can happen but allowing buses access
  25. Wow Legal Your counter argument has actually been useful in highlighting the solution It's not street closures or LTNs It's simply to relocate schools away from the area thus dumping traffic on other boroughs and driving away the parents who moved here to be within the catchment area further reducing car usage and congestion Of course it's all tongue in cheek but an interesting alternative to LTNs
