  1. The documents show how easy it is for people to think it's a war on car ownership A borough wide CPZ. Lobbying the GLA to expand the ULEZ to the M25 as parts of southwark will be outside it when expanded to the south circular. A borough wide school streets programme. Aiming to drive down private vehicle usage so that by 2030 only a limited number of EV vehicles are in common use. (Support limited to car clubs, EV bicycles and scooters, EV commercial freight , EV public transport). Adopt a target to halve petrol and diesel journeys by 2025 and by 90% by 2030. Lobby the GLA to introduce a road usage charge. Timed closures for high pedestrian footfall areas. Repurposing 10% of kerbside car storage to cycle storage within the next 18 months. Roll-out secure bike storage in the tens of thousands directly replacing car storage spaces. Adopting a borough wide program of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. Develop a LTN programme that gives a competitive advantage for cargo bikes which can pass through permeable filters whereas motor vehicles may be taking a more circuitous route. Increase the cost of car parking for all motor vehicles. Basically I would call this a war on motorists... why not go the whole hog and force the closure of all petrol stations so even if you do own a car, you can't drive it. Absolutely no consideration for those who can't cycle or walk (the elderly, disabled, with very young children) These measures will effectively make all the areas in Southwark into small enclaves where the local residents don't travel to the neighbouring enclave and distrust strangers from it. This madness has to stop as its no longer about environmental issues as these measures even try to limit the number of clean vehicles. Welcome to the new communist southwark state comrade !
  2. Not sure this is the right place, but the BBC are showing an article today about TfL's finances BBC News - Why Transport for London's finances are far from healthy https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-54652907 One thing that struck me is that bus use was at a peak in 2014 but declined since. TfL blame this on people not using buses "It seems the big reason is the decline in bus travel for leisure and non-work reasons. Less people are getting on a bus to go shopping." As a thought, I seem to remember that in 2014 buses went fully cashless so the ability to just hop on and pay was lost, and people were asked to use Oyster or contactless which a lot of people didn't like doing. As a regular bus user, it seemed that before March, buses were packed most of the day which put people off getting one if they could go by other methods (walking, cycling or car) and yet TfL say numbers were down which leads to two questions in my head 1. Are they only counting paying passengers in their numbers which implies more people are fare dodging 2. Has the prevalence of internet shopping actually cut the number of people going out shopping ? Guess it's not easy to juggle demand and capacity but I for one would choose other methods over using overcrowded buses to get to work if I could.
  3. Spring time, I really don't know where I can film sheep outside in the SE22 borders, to follow up on your suggestion. Especially not any "sexy" ones dressed up for a night out in the hay 😱 Any suggestions as you brought sheep into the conversation ?

    Welsh Aid

This morning the Welsh went into a full lockdown. Now they need your help, it's very simple to do and best of all you don't need to donate financially. If you have any friends in Wales or you are in contact with any Welsh people on social media show them you care by sharing a video of what being outside looks like. If you can , make them feel at home by adding phrases like Boyo or Taff to your message. In exchange they will show you gratitude in their native language. This morning I was told "mynd ar goll" which made my heart melt.
  5. You are correct Nigello and because of local voting empathy that's how we end up with a council who walk over their electorate. Maybe / hopefully it will change come the next local election and councillors will be in place who actually care what the majority want rather than the vocal minority.
  6. Also, try posting messages to the councillors social media accounts. Although I believe Tim at Franklins has been blocked by a few of them after raising questions.
  7. This is a news article from Lewisham showing how much their bus gates installed as part of their LTN make https://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/18810571.lewisham-council-get-millions-lee-green-ltn-fines/ Once they are in here Southwark will find every reason under the sun to keep them after the 18 month trial has completed. It's not just about reducing pollution and traffic IMHO , it's about revenue generation for the council as well.

I also guess Don't eat yellow snow near a compost heap is very much at the forefront of my mind 😱
  9. Just imagine if it is extended, businesses in East Dulwich would be unfairly disadvantaged by businesses just the other side of the South Circular (Sydenham for example) as people will shop there or at out of town centres rather than driving a few yard more (figuratively) and pay a congestion charge, a ULEZ charge and any CPZ charges (that may eventually be introduced). It will potentially result in a tragic loss of our high street IMHO. Found this online today https://www.change.org/p/petition-the-extension-of-congestion-charge
  10. Also recommendation 8 Adopt a local target to halve petrol and diesel road journeys by 2025, and by 90% by 2030, and encourage London Councils and the Mayor to do likewise. The LTN implementation will do that but what happens when we all go electric , will there be any roads left to use ? 🤔

    Sadiq Khan

No He wants it revoked and to revert to normal drinking hours (see this tweet from today) As I said previously u turn by London mayor ?

In this case https://redfieldandwiltonstrategies.com/majority-of-londoners-agree-most-streets-in-central-london-should-be-pedestrian-only/ 2,500 people. Which if this is the source of the "52% of all Londoners support" statement is misleading as it should really say "52% of 2,500 Londoners ..." There's lies, damn lies and statistics
  13. KK Hmm there's an idea, a rocket up the councillors backsides to get them to listen ! Penny for the Guy ?
  14. First mate Clean air for dulwich is a twitter group with around 879 followers. The closest I can find to a petition is here https://twitter.com/CleanAirDulwich/status/1311771597943066625?s=09 I agree it's a whitewash if one dulwich and the 2500 plus signature petition aren't represented at the meeting. Can't wait till the local elections as this lot have lost the plot.
  15. Hence from now on, the problems in the area will be known as "Covidgate" Can't wait till the movie comes out 🤔
  16. Meanwhile Andy Burnham is showing that politicians (at all levels) are playing Russian Roulette with lives whilst they play politics BBC News - Covid alert level: Greater Manchester 'fighting back' against Tier 3 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54557823 As I've said before no one has gotten this global pandemic right.

  18. Why are we moving to tier 2 Friday night and not tonight ? Why is there a delay between announcement and implementation ? It doesn't make sense
  19. Alan Do you remember how tightly China locked down the residents in Wuhan at the beginning of the pandemic ? Interestingly do you also remember how well the residents complied and didn't whip up a media frenzy ? You are entitled to be unhappy with the government but it frustrates me that people look at blaming the government because they wanted to go on holiday or go to the pub rather than following simple rules to stay safe and protect others. As I said we all have our own important part to play in curbing the virus and the media stirring isn't helping IMHO

Backward is of > course a relative term and used to stress the > point. Boy Imagine the cost of replacing every road sign in the UK from miles to km Still not to worry, we're getting pounds shillings and pence back soon 🤔
  21. Alan Apart from places like New Zealand where the population is low enough to manage a pandemic, how many world wide governments have actually got their response correct and nor made any mistakes at all ? Not many from what I can see and numbers are rising across Europe despite their policies so let's face it, whilst our government hasn't got everything right, they aren't alone in that fact! I guess we could go the way of China and go super strict on freedom but that's not the correct way either 😱

Sigh This is exactly the problem we are facing "It's nor my responsibility that the app failed, or that people can't be traced because they give incorrect details It's the government failing to protect us all from our own stupidity because we fail to follow the rules, we fail to protect our selves or others , we fail to wear masks correctly and we fail spectacularly to take responsibility for our own actions because some bloke went to a castle, a private company didn't do as well as want or people were taking tests when they didn't need to." That sort of rhetoric is exactly why numbers are rising because people assume that it's someone else's issue to deal with. It's not it's ALL OUR ISSUE. Wake up and smell the roses as this is a global pandemic and the government are trying to limit the damage the public are causing. (better to smell the roses than the Lilly's on your grave)
  23. Whilst it is not going to be a popular opinion, the government are doing everything they can to balance the economy and save lives but, and this is a big but, we all need to step up and protect ourselves Contact is how this virus is transmitted, not some government plot to infect us all, so we all have our part to play by following the rules to help defeat this virus and to stop a major disaster. If we don't then no matter what any government does, we will all fail.

I suspect it's not easy to forget having to be ventilated so everytime you go out think about how you are able to and not in ICU fighting for your life which may help you remember 🤔
  25. Good point Blah Blah Everyone can do their bit to help slow the spread. Wear a face mask fully covering your mouth and nose when in shops and other required areas. Wearing it just covering your mouth is as dangerous as not wearing it. Where possible stick to the 2m rule (despite everything the rule is still there with the exception of where it's not practical i.e. going for a haircut or similar activity that needs closer contact.) Wash your hands frequently and for the required time. Use the track and trace app and if you are asked to isolate do so, it may save your or a close family members life. If you show signs of Covid, isolate and book.a test Most of all stay safe, stay alive.
