  1. Good concept Jakido First, whatever happens it needs to compliment the traders, not take away their trade so whilst additional market days sounds good , think of the impact that may have on bricks and mortar traders. First thing in my opinion is Let the businesses open and trade But think about different times of the year, so if things are relaxed enough then Summer, but what if we can't relax till most people are vaccinated so it's autumn or winter Maybe a range of seasonal ideas is needed and the concept can roll with the seasons Years ago pretty tapas did evening pop ups in cafes that only opened in the day, great use of space that's not normally open in the evening and that sort of thing would be one suggestion Love the evening closure of side streets near pubs (I'm now thinking the square in Marrakesh as inspiration)
  2. There seems to be a few threads over on the main section that are talking about the Co-op on lordship lane in a negative way. Over zealous security guards Not taking card payment Is there some fundamental issue or is there some sort of campaign against it ?

  5. Sue Whatever you do, don't shop at PC world / curry's They check everything on the way out. Seriously if there is an issue with the security arrangements and staff maybe a word / email to the store manager will get it sorted or an explanation. This forum is great for discussions but the coop manager may not read it.
  6. It's local elections outside of London in May (assuming they can go ahead) plus the London mayoral election. If local councils where an LTN have been implemented suffer defeats, I wonder if London councilors will sit up and take note lest they suffer the same. Equally if there is a change of London mayor ...

Seabag ? Is that you playing both sides of the fence or is The Cat just echoing you ? Busted especially as the mittens are what gives me a feeling of Meat Euphoria
  8. Thanks for the heads up I would hazard a guess that if it's crime related then potentially it's to disable alarm monitoring / wireless alarm systems Hopefully nothing more comes off it but might be worth asking neighbours if they have CCTV to get a picture of the person involved.
  9. Blimey boyz You lot obviously need a hobby or something as you've been so active on here on a Saturday night. Maybe you're missing the pub, or something to do with your hands 😱 How about getting yourselves some needles and try making the attached trendy items

Interesting kid If the suggestions had been acted in at the time, the curve May have had a different shape but there is a question over would we have then unlocked earlier and infections rose again. One suggestion was a "firebreak" like Wales did, but after they came out numbers went up significantly. I'm not convinced that acting differently would have a major effect on overall numbers, but the timeframe potentially would be different The only course of action would have been total lock down, close borders to everyone from fay one and act like Singapore / China but as everyone advocated still being able to trade with Europe / rest of the world that wouldn't have been practical and no one would tolerate a 12 month total removal of the right to go out if their houses and the economy would have tanked beyond recovery. Would be interesting to model the scenarios and see what the result would be.

Sorry you will have to > wait until next week when I talk to some in the > know (don't have contacts in LBS). That's the issue Malumba, you and the council try and dismiss residents who object as a "vocal minority" yet without a formal and fair consultation there's no evidence to support that's the case Claiming a national survey shows different doesn't count as 90% of the country don't experience London driving / transport issues so can't be used as a representing group for London. It's akin to Londoners saying "all Glaswegians need to wear kilts as its what we think they should wear"* we don't live there so why should we be used as a representative voice ? * not a true example as all Scotsmen wear kilts daily anyway

  17. Sue I'm with you on this, I've finished all the box sets I want to see and now I'm waiting for Nigello to get to the punchline of this Marathon Snickers behind hand as said and pats Yorkie on head
  18. If the LTNs are removed , will the newspaper headlines quote "Cycle Lobby's and Councils forced to backpedal" ?
  19. And as well as going after the street space changes, cabbies are going for uber based on illegal business activity BBC News - Uber: London cabbies plan to sue for damages https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55742569 Whilst indirectly related to the healthy streets, if they win and companies like uber are forced to withdraw or change their business practices then it may have additional positive effects on traffic volumes using main and side roads and people returning to public transport This could see lower traffic volumes occurring naturally and negating one of the key arguments for LTNs (but not all)

  21. Strangely both are correct ... no wonded English is so hard to learn. denier noun plural noun: deniers a person who denies something, especially someone who refuses to admit the truth of a concept or proposition that is supported by the majority of scientific or historical evidence. noun a unit of weight by which the fineness of silk, rayon, or nylon yarn is measured, equal to the weight in grams of 9,000 metres of the yarn and often used to describe the thickness of hosiery.

  23. On freeview it's channel 8 (for future references) so you may need to retune
  24. Ex Are you saying that you are against a fair consultation on the subject ? It feels very much like you are to me from the way you try and dismiss one (of two) petitions against the LTNs (and that's just Dulwich) yet pro petitions don't generate such high numbers of signatures. Look at what happened in Crystal Palace with their petition. The local sentiment in areas where LTNs are implemented without consultation (as in the case of Southwark) is normally against them hence why there is reluctance by the council and the pro lobby to hold a formal and fair consultation. After all that's all people are really asking for, the council to hold a formal and fair consultation and agree to act accordingly based on the results.
