In a few short days, we are going to need a new thread that Trumps this one I guess we will need to Biden our time till it happens!

Thanks Sue Pretty much as expected although the mad idea of people going out to stand in a queue and collect mail at the moment seems a recipe for spreading covid .. I wonder how many hospital appointments / test results or other important letters are stuck in the sorting office? Whilst the covid situation is understandable and sad, there needs to be alternative solutions to clear the backlog before we get a mountain of post and no hope of getting to the bottom of it.

Are you talking wooden or metal / plastic ones? The latter could explain the mystery (and if it wasn't for those meddling kids we would all have gotten away with it)

Oh but you have been so so very naughty KK , I'm surprised if Santa left you any presents this year.😃 There are photos somewhere to prove it 😱

The petition is too vague around how the permit scheme should work and we all know Southwark council, give them an inch and they will take a mile of road away ...

Is it area wide CPZ that ED rejected recently ? Is it permits to drive for locals , excluding visitors and friends from coming to the area ? Why area wide, the problem isn't area wide ? What happens if a London wide road pricing scheme comes in, will we have to pay twice ? Too little detail behind the concept and sounds like the airy fairy sort of scheme a council officer will try and implement via a back door. I can't personally back this, I can back one that asks for a proper consultation involving all stakeholders and proper discussions around what is needed in the area that suits all.

There has been an announcement that over ?800 million has been either granted or provisionally granted to high streets to bounce back. The old Kent Road, an area that was earmarked for massive regeneration and house building, received ?9.6 million. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/830-million-funding-boost-for-high-streets Is this the right area for Southwark to be focusing on now that the additional funding from the tube expansion has evaporated ? Or should they have looked at diverting the funds towards struggling town centres like Peckham that are crying our for improvements in facilities ?
-
Bicknell Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thats the problem with whats going on in Dulwich. > No data. Just strong opinions. Agreed a consultation is desperately required but I fear the council and pro campaigners don't want one as it could be very telling. Otto2 from experience a vast number of people who are elderly , disabled and so on can't cycle so we are going to have to agree to disagree here.
-
DC I'm not discussing the able bodied but here you have brought them in by assumed that they all act the same, bit disrespectful to be honest and without a proper consultation your view is just that and possibly based on studies that don't represent this area. If you look at what I am saying, it's that the pro group aren't really showing empathy towards those less able to cycle and walk. Otto2 without knowing others circumstances then I find it uncomfortable that you are assuming people speak for others without first hand knowledge of them, I'm pleased that you condition allows you to use a cycle but elderly , wheel chair users, and so on can't... however you seem to be talking for them here 😱. Again without a proper consultation no one knows how these schemes disadvantage people and what percentage of the local population are restricted by them going forward. Will be interesting if a disabled person sues a council for discrimination by removing access to facilities they had before (restricted or no access through LTNs). I suspect that whilst it won't be a quick win, they possibly will win.
-
DC divisive to the pro lobby but a necessary eye opener from those less able to walk or cycle don't you agree? Not everyone is able to utilise these "no drive roads" Nxjen, I'm sorry I didn't realise I was taking to a woman, obviously I need to make it simple for you as you accused me of mansplaining without knowing my gender 😱 (attack the ball not the person is always best, argue against what I say, don't try to discredit me as that will just dilute your point of view!) The simple problem is that no matter what % the anti lobby presents, the pro lobby will use that to say something like "Oh 2% that's not many and we can justify their disadvantage because we are fit enough to cycle." It's not a case of reading your question differently, is simply observation of how people on here will act. What is desperately needed is an honest discussion backed by real facts and pre / post monitoring, a consultation and the council listening to the majority not the few.
-
Don't be obtuse nxjen, no matter what percentage are effected, the question is simply what percentage are you (the generic you) personally willing to dismiss as not important enough to make a difference to the introduction or continuing use of LTNs because their journey isn't important enough. From the perspective of the elderly, those who find it difficult to walk or disabled it should be 0% but from a for young persons point it could be (say) 40% The question is designed to make the pro lobby justify the disadvantage for people who can't cycle or walk !
-
KK maybe it needs to be a multiple choice question to ascertain how far individuals can really walk, someone in a wheelchair for example would say 0 feet, someone on crutches maybe 100yds, a 25 Year old marathon runner would be 10 miles, however why should the wheelchair user be any less important travel wise compared to a young fit 25 Year old. It's a matter of perspective and sadly the pro closure side have little empathy or perspective on what those less able to walk go through or how it disadvantages them when a road is closed off that they would normally use to get to their favourite shops. As said, there needs to be a formal consultation with everyone and not just the council listening to voices that reinforce their point of view.
-
Nxjen what percentage is acceptable to you ? To someone who relies on their car because they can't walk or cycle then I expect 0% disadvantaged is the only acceptable figure yet to those who are young and fit the percentage will be higher as they won't see the struggles others will endure if the schemes stay as they are or expand. Maybe part of the consultation that everyone wants the council to do should include questions on how able are you to walk more than 50 yards to see how much it will impact people.

Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > All very well for those who are able to go to the > delivery office, but in the present circumstances > many people can't. And as post is a paid for delivery service, why should we have to go and collect it? I do hope the sorting office manager is held accountable for their lack of actions over this dismal failure to provide a service that so many rely on.

Malumbu Whilst you are at it in your time machine can you stop the folly of removing trams from London (of which East Dulwich had its fair share) as they would have evolved to provided the clean green electric solution we all want. Sometimes I think our forefathers had things right, trams, electric delivery milk floats, recycling of milk bottles on the doorstep (home delivery), investment in green spaces (parks) and beer at 1'6 a pint.

In a few days the boxing day online sales will start, this will add pressure to the already over stretched system as more parcels are sent by retailers despite Christmas parcels still not being delivered As the Kaizer Cheifs sang "I predict a riot"

Ah yes The Upland Tavern on a Friday night ... But let's remember the first rule of fight club
-
I remember Pubs Lovely places, full of people socially mixing Them were the days 😱

I wonder how much this will cost the postal service in refunds for lost or delayed Christmas gifts and other items that the retailers will be claiming back from royal mail ? Could this be the death throes of Royal Mail especially with the inflation busting increase in postage costs coming and an agreement today to give postal workers a pay rise and shorter working hours ? Whilst in normal years shop local would be the mantra, this year We are relying on the post and been badly let down
