Forest Hill Road Surgery - again.
bobbsy replied to George Orwell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Must admit I have to echo Growlybear for an urgent appointment 2 weeks ago, was very quick and painless to organise a same day appointment. Receptionist efficient and polite. Couldn't ask for more on that occasion. -
Overhill/Belvoir/Underhill roads being used as a bypass
bobbsy replied to bobbsy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I guess the volume of traffic and size of vehicles using the roads will ensure we return to pothole heaven sooner rather than later. Surely deviations should be planned out for road closures? -
Coming home last night, 7 ish, it was a constant stream of traffic turning from Lordship Lane into Overhill, then down Belvoir, and then onto Underhill. A large green Clarkes coach was trying to turn onto Underhill as I passed, slowly, as it's a difficult turn for a vehicle of that size with parked cars - surely these small side roads are not designed to handle vehicles of this size?

Extension to ultra-low emission zone to north/south circulars

Look a little more closely, there are a lot of pre 07 number plates. -
Just watched a green sedan, reg I think KD04 YFW, pull up in front of a building site across the road. 2 youths jumped out, dressed in "builder-ish" clothes, baseball caps, and with yellow hi-vis gloves on, and tried the doors on the van parked in front of the site. All locked, they started to look into the front yard before a builder appeared and they jumped back in the car and it sped off. Driver didn't exit the car. Was fast and efficient (although in this case unsuccessful).

I don't think it is as simple as comparing PM2.5 emissions between a stove and cars. The key comparison to me, is what source of energy the wood burning stove is displacing. The previously posted link makes this point: The net benefits or dis-benefits from using biomass as a fuel depend on what fuel it replaces. If, in winter, the wood burning stove is substituting for an electric heater, it is likely displacing power derived from a coal fired power station - which in winter is the marginal power source. As such it is likely no better or worse. If it substitutes for gas powered central heating, it is likely producing higher PM2.5 emissions. If it is replacing an open fire, it is likely producing less PM2.5 emissions.

In the middle section they are at the BT exchange next to Firemans alley. -
I switched to bulb - the process was painless, and customer service seemed good, however they jacked the price considerably a few months after switching. I've moved on...

I'm still interested. I'm rubbish though.

Wet slimy road - corner of Overhill rd and Lordship Lane

Gosh, had been meaning to post about this for ages, finally do it and they are there fixing. -
Increase in HGV in Melford Rd and Wood Vale
bobbsy replied to dds29's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think volume of traffic down these roads increased considerably after the Borough went to 20mph limit. -
The site of eternal burst pipes over the years....however whilst the main ones have been fixed there has been something leaking onto the road now for 6+months. During summer this stayed relatively dry, however now temps have dropped and we have less sunlight hours, this is staying very wet and is looking slimy. As we get into winter, this will be super dangerous for ice. The corner is alreasy slightly off-camber when turning left onto Overhill. How can this be reported and fixed?

Defo interested as a beginner!

BMW M135i stolen Saturday morning oakhurst grove
bobbsy replied to slims's topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
Very strange experience on Saturday morning - I came down to my car unlocked, with the contents of the glove box all over the front seat and the only two valuable items (sat-nav and sunglasses) taken - so sometime on Friday night. I was unaware of the relays mentioned above - so I should be shielding my key fob in a protected location? -
Not wanting to hijack the thread, and not being particularly knowledgable about the Barry Rd situation - but IMHO speeding down side roads increased dramatically from the introduction of the 20mph limit on the main roads. Cars go at crazy speeds down Underhill on the long hill down to Melville, even with all the traffic calming bumps (which do nothing back make a horrible sound when speeding cars scrape them or trucks rattle as they bump over them. I would be in favour of some of these rat-run roads being closed to through traffic, and being access only.

Let me guess - insurance premiums have skyrocketed for an ungaraged motorcycle? I wish you luck with finding garage space. If you need a recommendation for insurance, try MCE. At last renewal they would still cover London postcodes at a reasonable premium, albeit with huge excesses. No-one else would offer.

Also, think mine was ?400 (plus they get a kickback from the lender) but the ease and trouble saved is more than worth it. Has an inside line to the lenders and advises every step of the way.

I guess you can always move away from a pub with sky sports if it is too noisy...but it seems harder to convince the foxes to move away...

Me too... There are some new tesla solar roof tiles which I have been keeping an eye on, think they've just released the first orders. I think a lot of people are put off by the "economics" and payback time of solar. However I always find these a little flawed as with the demand for electricity increasing I think the forward price of power will skyrocket down the track - but that's just my opinion. I for one would be happy with an initial outlay and then no electricity bills (assuming solar panels with battery storage) and will be looking at them when/if I have a loft conversion.
