  1. Having read your post carefully ............ I always thought this was one of those rare occasions when you were indicating "sarcastic" affection, Sue. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  3. Another thing that happens on the 176 regularly, worldwiser. I wonder if this is a necessity, though, due to tachograph breaks (a legal requirement). Does anyone know if bus drivers are covered by this legislation, I know that coach drivers are, and it's the same licence - PSV ? Could go some way to explaining it.

  5. muffins78 your point about going to its' destination used to go something like this years ago: Irate passenger " it says xxxx on the front destination sign" Smart-arsed conductor "it says India on the tyres but we're not going there" so I think you'll find we all have to just put up with it, but your point is well made and apposite. Happens a lot on the 176.

  12. Great to read that, Steveo Ditto - Parkdrive
  13. The community centre (Darrell/CPR) was used as a base for Hoskins, Coltrane and Michael Caine during filming. That mews garage was used as a location many times back in the 70's/80's: The Sweeney; Dempsey and Makepeace; Minder (in a rare departure from West London) to name a few.

  16. Saw him supporting the reformed original Status Quo (the frantic four) at Hammersmith just a month ago at the end of March. He was brilliant as ever. Standing ovation and calls for encore.Great stuff!!!
  17. Otta I should have explained it better, my fault, but on a permanent site it is for an open-ended ended (in perpetuity if required) stay/residency. A "pitch" can typically accommodate 3 or more homes eg: caravans to enable the extended family to be together. A transitory site is for just that, a short stay. The terminology refers to the type of residency, all sites become permanent, in that regard, as a legal provision.
  18. @ david_carnell You are quite right, "permanent traveller camp" is a paradox. Most district/borough councils are now obliged by law to provide "permanent residence sites" alongside "transitory sites" and typically twice as many "pitches" for the permanent sites than the transitory ones. This is compulsory on councils, with the cost being match funded 50-50 from a govt grant and the local council tax.
  19. Louisa Surely they are waiting for a sub-sub committee to meet to arrange a meeting for the sub committee to meet and arrange a date for when they themselves can meet to arrange a date to be submitted and confirmed to make a final decision
  20. Thanks, Jah Lush, I didn't know that. Genuinely fascinating to hear this fact. My own personal experience of seeing a band right at their outset was going to see Iron Maiden playing in The Green Gate pub in Bethnal Green Road in about 1977. Just goes to show, little acorns etc etc!!
  21. Otta Are you sure? It's probably widely known their first gig was at Samuel Jones' sports ground in the village. Then they played gigs at The Castle, the pub almost opposite Southampton Way in Peckham (don't know if it's still there). Both of these came about as Alan Lancaster's father (he was the original bass player) worked at Samuel Jones, based in Southampton Way. Never heard of them playing in the Uplands though, although Francis Rossi used to live in Underhill Road and above the co-op (now estate agents)on L.L., so it does seem logical.

Someone like their no: plate, probably, Henryb. Definitely the best I have ever seen belongs to an elderly retired gentleman from where I was living until recently. He would be the first to admit his personality is like that of the T.V. character, Victor Meldrew. His reg no: AR51 OAP. Priceless!!!
  23. Came by there about 3.00pm. Man lying on pavement think he was telling paramedics couldn't move legs. There was a car with a damaged offside front wing close by and a P.C. looking at a parked vehicle also with a damaged offside front wing, near the junction Underhill/Friern. Hope he's OK, at least he was speaking to paramedics and not unconscious. Heard another P.C. saying to another "see if the junction's any good". Think he meant the Air Ambulance as it came over a couple of minutes later. Perhaps a single vehicle RTC.
