  2. I think part of the problem the Liverpool fans had with Hodgson is that he was appointed by the previous hated regime and he wasn't Rafa. I think it's a matter of time before he goes now but they really do have to make the right appointment and give the manager full backing financially otherwise I can see Liverpool being a mid-table side for many years to come. Liverpool are a massive club and the standards set have to be kept very high otherwise it will be a case of how the mighty have fallen.
  3. Bruce Forsyth - a mediocrity presiding over crap Saturday night television for what seems like forever.
  4. That's the one Ian. And thanks, I'd never seen her sister's obit before. Archie, I saw recently. He's still living in Newcastle and is still a gigging musician.
  5. Hi, I knew the Rackows. I went to junior school with Chloe and her knew her older sister Francis (Franny) very well too. Unfortunately Francis died of cancer a few years ago. Rachel was also a good friend of mine. The plaque was for her and her fiancee Julian who also very sadly died in the Marchioness disaster of 1989 (not '91) with Rachel. Other than that I can't really offer you anymore information. There is another older sister whose name slips my mind for the moment. I believe their mother is still alive but I can't be sure of that.
  6. "I'd hate to advocate drugs, alcohol or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." Hunter S Thompson.
  7. Boadicea.
  8. That's harsh Keef. After United won the European Cup in '68 with an ageing team that included a young Best they should have built the team around him. They fact they didn't and were eventually relegated only tells part of the story. The fact remains that as a player Beckham and anyone other modern day British footballer you care to name is not fit enough to clean the boots of the genius that was George Best.

Keep your > ?50 to drown your sorrows when you miss out on > Champs League next year. ;-) Thought as much. All mouth and no trousers. No sour grapes here. The season isn't over yet. Got nothing to be sour about. We're doing quite well so far. Do you want to take the bet or haven't you got the balls? We've both won nothing so far this season but I've ?50 says you won't win the league. If you're so confident of winning it take the bet.
  11. I've got ?50 says they won't. Wanna bet and put your money where your mouth is?
  12. Ha ha! I have to agree with your take on that Narnia. You see he's just playing the media again. He does it well.
  13. So EC, can you answer Narnia's question then?

  15. So they parked the bus. It worked though and they're still above you. That's why you've got the hump isn't it. Get over it. I think it's Man Utd's title to lose now. For a side that hasn't played good yet they're still top and can only get better going into the second half of the season. Arsenal aren't consistent enough, Chelsea's age looks like it has caught up with them and I think it may be a season too early for Man City but they'll certainly qualify for the Champions League this year. League Cup for Arsenal.
  16. They don't have to be directed at me. Anna's got the yawns too.
  17. "He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right." George Best. I think George got it right about Beckham as player. He isn't fit enough to lace Bestie's boots but then no one is. Beckham though has made the most of himself by playing the media at their own game and at that he's been very successful financially by turning himself into a brand. He's won few football medals too, which helps.
  18. Give it a rest EC. It's boring for all of us.
  19. Probably died of acute liver failure. He was major imbiber of the sauce. BBC Article
  20. Not surprised. The club hasn't been the same since Alan Curbishley left. It's been one disaster after another. Feel sorry for the their fans.
  21. Talking of poor referees and I can't remember his name (**** Taylor?) and I'd not heard of him before but the guy who refereed the Spurs v Newcastle match was an absolute joke. How the feck Alan Smith, Joey Barton and Cheik Tiote remained on the pitch is still puzzling me now a week after the match.
  22. I did the same once after being over-served at a local hostelry and eventually after a few days my phone died. We later held a memorial service for her at the Crown & Greyhound (The Dog) in Dulwich Village and the staff there were suitably sombre. I was touched and very moved by the service there that day which was much quicker than they usually are. The beer flowed and there was much gnashing of teeth but I remembered next time I went to the loo never to have my phone again in my top pocket. I've had several mobile phones since and they've all managed to live a good long life until I've decided to upgrade and left them lying dormant in a draw just waiting to come to life again.
  23. Sell out.
  24. Agreed. Ferguson is what he is today because he's a tough old bastard. Like him or loathe he is still the most successful manager around and he didn't get where he is today by being nice. As John Lennon once said about the Beatles. "You have to be a bastard to make it and the Beatles were the biggest bastards."
  25. Narnia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think JL was referring to the rivalry between > the clubs fans' and not you specifically EC. Correct.
