  1. I know where you're talking about EDA, beyond the netballs courts behind the playground at Dulwich Hamlet school. It was the Griffin Athletic Club and the grounds were owned by Sainsburys. The big house on the corner of Village way I believe used to be owned by Sainsburys too.

Annasfield, I didn't take it to mean you thought I was old. I took it as a compliment that you thought I only sounded old when I talk about all those gigs that I went to before you were born. You sound like a top girl to me. Bah! Queen, couldn't stand them. Although when I sang in a band we used to cover Now I'm Here. I actually walked out of one of their gigs. It was a free concert in Hyde Park. '75/'76 I think (there I go again). I was tripping off my tits and could only take about six or seven of their numbers before my friends and I had had enough of their pomp and bombast and made our way back to Dulwich for much needed liquid refreshment.
  4. They definitely owned it, whether they still do I don't know. I went to Dulwich Hamlet too. Happy days!

Thanks Annasfield, that makes me feel a whole lot better.:)) It's not how old you are. It's how you feel inside. Oh! Mockney, no no no, not the bloody 80s? Urgh! Dread decade.(6)

The bright yellow one? No, actually I don't drive. Never have. Would have been dead years ago if I had or somebody else would have. I prefer drinking and you can't do the two. Ronnie Lane at Dingwalls, late '79 or early 1980. The poor man was hanging on to a post for support to stand up because of his MS but sang beautifully and with great feeling. Unfortunately the band backing him that night (including Johnny Kidd and the Pirates guitarist Mick Green and Ian Stewart (Stones)) had only rehearsed five numbers but the crowd loved him so much we got him to play the whole set again. Lovely man, great songwriter, much missed.
  7. don't bemoan it
  8. I once worked on a local rag called What's On In Stoke Newington, it was a small piece of paper with F**k All written on it.
  9. (Monday morning is the worse, *shudders*) It creeps up without warning
  10. *Asset, you really must try the Zombies in Black Cherry* *In the meantime have one of mine* *Old Fashioned coming up for Ant, cheers everyone*
  11. The Mag has a big screen and several stratigically placed TVs around the pub and behind the bar. It's probably the one I use most for football but it can get awful crowded in there for big games. The CPT is great if you can get a seat at the bar and watch it on the telly above the door. Other times I'll use the EDT which is also pretty good too
  12. *Finds enormous cocktail shaker, hoorah!* *Knocks up Zombies, pours into two huge jugs* *One for you and one for me, glug glug glug* *Anymore for anymore?*

Yeah but that was a freebie Keef. I'll admit I liked them when they came out but they only had one good album in 'em.

Aha ha ha! Cheers Annasfield and Brendan. It's just my age you know and the times I've lived through. I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up. I'm still 17 in my head. Now did I ever tell you about the time I went to see Toots & The Maytals at the Venue in Victoria or Dr John at Dingwalls?>:D
  16. That's the one Keef, Dave the Butchers. If it isn't 20 years it soon will be, you're probably right though, 15 or 16 years ago. I knew a guy used to work in there who got made redundent just before Sainsburys opened. Anyway, this thread bonkers isn't it. I'm off to the quiet room for a drink.

Yeah! Your're right there Annasfield. Earls Court has got the worse sound ever. Saw the Stones there in '76 and the sound was pretty ropey then but I was having such a good time at seeing them for the first time that I didn't really care. Then I saw Oasis there in '95 and couldn't believe that the sound was so dreadful. Haven't been back since. Mind you, who wants to go and see a band in a bloody aircraft hangar anyway?
  18. Did you manage to go for 28 hours like Mr & Mrs Sting?*
  19. *Hoorah! Drinks all round, thank f**k it's Friday* *Offers to get 'em in* *What's ya poison pals?* *Slips behind the bar and waits to take orders*
  20. This week I've been listening to Max Romeo's Open The Iron Gate and his '67 to '76 Anthology and any minute now I'm off out to get the new P J Harvey album. Big fan of hers, got all her stuff. Just found out it's not out until Sept 24th. Doh!
  21. Ahem; yes, young Rooney, he WAS potentially a great player. When he played in the hole in the World Cup at 17 before he got injured against Portugal you looked at him and thought that boy's got unbelievable talent and he's gonna be some player, but it seems to me that that is when he peaked. He doesn't seem to have progressed much and he still has an appalling temper, which makes him prone to getting booked and sent off. As for the Lampard v Gerrard debate. They can't player together and if given the choice of the two to play with A.N Other in England's midfield then it's got to be Gerrard. Nuff said.

  23. *Pops head up from under duvet* *Neither Ant, it's La Bomba, Brandy & Chocolate* (Memories of holidays spent in Spain, La Bomba for breakfast) *Gets up rushes to bar, grabs bottle of Martell* *Swishes to fridge, grabs ice and bottle of chocolate* *Starts pouring and drinking in mad frenzy, offers one to Ant*

It's a while since I've been up there Sean but I agree the acoustics aren't that great are they? I much prefer the Shepherds Bush Empire or Bush Hall as I think it is now called.
  25. Mockney, you know full well I drink my weight in pints, it's the rest of you who are letting the side down. I think you'll find that Scotland are collectively known as 6, 7 & 9. Surely they'd be right off the scale compared to bloody Luxembourg!!!!
