  1. Anything that involved " poking it up a couple of frogs in the past" is worth a punt imdo.
  2. Well worth reviving to hear that annaj. Congratulations!

And using a quote by Harold Wilson, of all people, against him strikes me as being fairly Guilty by association ( in both cases):-$ He was just building his own career then so b+gger the people and the manifesto. He was going places and did not want this "cause" to shackle him. Viscount Wedgie-Man of the People Dem.
  5. Thank you Hal. Thats the one. There's a car in there somewhere, as well.
  6. Old London Street Scenes (1903) See this video on You Tube and you will never complain about crossing the road in London again! Organised chaos at its finest. Enjoy. p.s Wouldn't want to be the one cleaning up the horses poo though..B)
  7. rgutsell Wrote: no one deserves to be judged as evil, and no one deserves to be tortured. Oh! I don't know, though. Only last week a work colleague of my friend was in Court after her "evil" heroin addict Partner disappearred with a Woman he met at Re-hab(!). He used to steal all the kids "toy" money, while she did 3 jobs to keep them afloat. This time she flipped and put her nails deep into his face when she found him with her. Thats after she battered her and put her fingers in his nose and spread his nose as far across his face as much as she could. Thanks to our Legal System, it was only her 2nd recent offence ( she ran over a Guy who she had a disagreement with and then ran over him again, in case she missed any of his bits the first time) and was fined......?125..lol She was driven to this by her heroin-addicted Partner though...
  8. The Rainbow at Finsbury Park. Saw many bands there including Deep Purple, good atmosphere.
  9. gallinello Wrote: Too much sun, TLS. Relax, wipe the rabid flecks from your parched, cracked lips and reflect! I'm sure there's a massive Commune, somewhere in The Suburbs, that churns out sneering "Class Warriors" who are simply incapable of communicating without the, inevitable, snide remarks, whether it be "rabid" or somesuch nonsense. Anyway, I WAS right in the heart of Maggie's 1980's as I worked in Fleet Street and saw those lovable Cocknee Sparra's at the Print sign on at Midnight and go and do their "Moonlighting" Cab Work ( Not going to Brixton, Darling, sorry") and sign back on again at 6.00AM. The same Guys who would unload stuff, with 2 of them working and 10 others watching on. The same Guys who would meet us in The White Swan or Poppinjay or The Bell and play us Darts after we finished work at 5.00PM, during their "lunch hour" that lasted until we were all chucked out at 11.00PM. The same guys who held their fortnightly "Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Out! Out! Out!" Maggie sorted them out...even The Union Barons of The Print who, unlike The Management, actually DID run the papers...

I'm certain Atila will verify this as well when he responds. Thinking only today while at my local (quiet) shopping area that it is 26 years since I moved and yet so much of me belongs and pines for that area because of the stimulation and "buzz" and vitality that East Lane/Walworth Road generates.
  12. Bakers on Strike,Undertakers on strike,Dockers on strike,Printers always on strike, miners on strike,Council workers on strike, car workers on strike, GLC a fiasco....Maggie got it sorted...
  13. Chick Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hanging is too good for her. Quite right chick! Various friends had Fathers who were Printers in Fleet Street and they said it was like a "Holiday Camp" until she ruined at allby forcing only 3 Men to do the work of one Man, it used to be SIX Men b4 she interfered. Same on The Docks the old Dockers made a good living theiving off their Employers and everybody knew the game. In she came again and reformed The Docks and as for The GLC, under Ken Livingstone, she abolished it, as no-one seemed to do any work, at any time. She was a ruddy nuisance and she "backed Britain" at every opportunity which upset some of The Liberal locals, I can tell yer...
  14. Before I go out, for a while, and to avoid any ambuguity this is what YOU said.. "Quite specifically Atila did NOT note a very English/British feel to the place in the 60s, but (and I quote) 'The market is not as it used to be as the mix of races, cultures, since that time has changed' My intrepretation is that he feels there WAS a very English/British feel in the 1960's and the " mix of races, cultures, since that time has changed markedly so the demand for the products that the stalls used to sell is not in demand as much as they used to be" I believe Atila is saying that there is NOT the demand for traditional English/British products now because of this change... Lets see who is right, shall we M8?
  15. Huguenot Wrote: "there is little demand for traditionally English "Fruit 'n Veg" in that area now" ho ho I mean, when did he say that, 1932? guffaw Whatever opium you are on today, please send some over "post hocte prompt" Huguenot! HE did NOT say that anywhere, at any time!!! I said that! and if you go down East Lane Market, as I did recently, there wee NO traditional "English Fruit 'n veg" stalls. Are you out of the Country or something?:)) Huguenot: Did all the respectable little immigrant cultures in 1950 come in and speak proper like with bowler hats and tweed jackets? Meat and two veg back then? It's only their kids who are disrespectin'? Splutter, hoot.... Keep taking that stuff Hugy Baby!:)-D
  16. Huguenot Wrote: Well yes Tony, but then Atila did point out this is Dad didn't veer towards mixers - so could hardly be described 'as one'. Quite specifically Atila did not note a very English/British feel to the place in the 60s, but (and I quote) 'The market is not as it used to be as the mix of races, cultures, since that time has changed' So that'll be a mix of races and cultures. Geddit? A mix of races and cultures> So that'll also be not quite an English/British feel in the 60s then? I'm laughing even more loudly now as you AGAIN have missed the point, a different point this time. I stand to be corrected but why don't we allow Atila to let us know what he meant?? ( I'm pretty sure Atila was asmirably clear, personally) but we will put this dialogue, in abeyance, until Atila is around . For the record Huguenot, THIS is what Atila said: "The market is not as it used to be as the mix of races, cultures, since that time has changed markedly so the demand for the products that the stalls used to sell is not in demand as much as they used to be..." Now I take that to mean THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF YOU, in that Atila was saying, well EXACTLY what he was, in fact, saying, i.e. the "mix of races, cultures has changed markedly etc..... Lets allow Atila to speak and see which one of us did or did not "GEDDIT"...
  17. Huguenot Wrote: I think TLS probably didn't think your family was immigrant when he sided with your support for the market.... Atila has mentioned his Turkish-Cypriot ancestry several times lately so you are completely wrong H. but it gets better.. Hugeonot: Still laughing very very hard. Eyes watering :)) Your eyes are watering so much you must have MISSEDD what Atila wrote IMMEDIATELY above your comment! There's a CLUE there in the final line..wink/wink... Atila: "My late father arrived in London in 1955 & as a matter of choice chose to mix with other Turkish Cypriots in the various shady gambling dens & card schools in both North & South East [he later opened his own dodgy card school above a shop we owned in Peckham]. He once explained to me the reason he mixed with his fellow islanders was because they spoke the same language, had the same culture, same religous beliefs, etc & felt no kinship with Londoners of another race, colour, or creed. I on the other hand was born and bred in London, have some affinity with Turkish Cypriots for obvious reasons but also for obvious reasons, namely shared experiences and so on, I'M MORE AT HOME WITH PEOPLE BORN & BRED HERE..... Which part of that last line do you not understand H??
  18. ------------------------------------------------------- > Tony, you must have choked on your cheerios.> > Ha! I'm laughing, geniunely, as you TOTALLY missed the point H. !!! I'm in a very good mood so I'll be tolerant. Firstly Atila had mentioned, a few times lately, of his background but the point you have missed by a million miles is that WE WERE ALL ONE COMMUNITY then and other Guys were known AFFECTIONATELY like "Bubbles" for Greeks etc, we were all Londoners together with, as Atila, notes a very English/British feel to the place. We were all Walworthians or Dulwichites or Brixtonians, it did not matter to the "mass" as overalL as London still retained the "traditional" British Culture. I see, simplistically, you have put "2 x 2" together and said to yourself "TLS/Turkish--he no liky"..couldn't be more wrong, and with the greatest respect, you are showing a COMPLETE lack of knowledge and understanding of the mass of ordinary Working-Class Londoners and how we lived. The Dog-Tracks I frequented were full of Greeks and Turks and Cypriots ( both sides of The Island) and what a great craic it was too.:)-D Seriously, I'm not mocking or laughing AT you at all but if you knew East Lane or Walworth or South-East London then we were all as one.

  22. People seem to be forgetting or not realising that The Conservatives used to have a solid Working-Class support, particularly in London.
  23. "Hunt In Packs"....I'll pass no comment but simply say, read all the 35 London Teenage Murder accounts/reports since 2008--thats 27 in 2008 and 8 in 2009 and read how many involve The Police searching for "Groups"/ "Gangs"/ whatever terminology is used in each case, individually. The majority involve more than one "suspect" for the murder and more than one person "running away from the scene of the crime" but. of course, many are not caught so we will never establish until every case gets to Court how many involve more than one potential murder. In the case of Ben Kinsella all the usual "missed chances" are there. One of the "3" was accused of stabbing someone, in a Gang of 4, only 10 days earlier, but he was the only one of the "4" who was not apprehended, with devastating effects for The Kinsella Family. Naturally, all 3 were "depressingly familiar names" The Police Spokesmam said..
  24. Sherpherds Bush is the only London Underground Station where the same place has 2 totally seperate lines and Stations.
  25. Ben Kinsella was not involved in Gangs at all. 3 Murderers did not want to "lose face" so murdered him to keep their street cred...
