"I read somewhere that Cummings is departing his role on October 31st. I wonder will it be a case of his job there being done, or not being able to do it." It's said that Cummings is due surgery in November . https://inews.co.uk/opinion/comment/boris-johnson-no-deal-brexit-silly-season-news-cancelled-497558

Are our streets disabled friendly?
intexasatthe moment replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
well put singalto . Also I guess an old Victorian infrastructure doesn't help ! -
And it doesn't need to have any road markings "Road markings adjacent to dropped kerbs In most circumstances it's an offence, irrespective of the presence or absence of road markings, to park adjacent to a dropped kerb." https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/guide-to-parking/dropped-kerbs-and-driveways?chapter=4

Are our streets disabled friendly?
intexasatthe moment replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree ,when I had to push my mum in a wheelchair it was really hard . Blasted wheelie bins on pavements where a real bug bear .And overhanging hedges . I did become more proficient with time ,and realising that the little bars near the back wheels to stand on and lever the chair was a life changing moment . Like you though I often had to walk backwards . -
Gosh ,I agree and see your point. No way would I want to upset a bus . We all know what huffy creatures they can be ....sailing past a stop where you've been paitently waiting . Especially that stop opposite the Clock House in Barry Road .( when it was in use )

Gubudge "I would have gone out of my way not to use Lyndhurst/Bellenden/Crystal Palace." - what route did you use as an alternative ?

37 route has always enabled travel from GG to Peckham .

"People may not like to hear but cycles only pass through for a very brief period in the morning and evening rush hours after that the roads are very quiet." I think you mean the majority of cyclists ( in my mind known as "the packs " ) .There are plenty of other non commuting cyclists ,some of whom may be less comfident, less athletic and carrying shopping and/or children .

Looking for Classical Lunchtime Concerts in South London.
intexasatthe moment replied to beansprout's topic in The Lounge
Might be worth joining mailing list of this lot https://www.multi-story.org.uk/contact-us I went to recent concert in Peckham ( old multi storey behind cinema/now The Levels ? ) and it was v good .There were some cars parked up there (and there is vehicular access via Cerise Rd )not gen public think suppliers to food drink outlets and for sound equipment ) You would need to ask about access says this on The Levels ( which I see is levels 1-6 and the concert was on higher levels ) website " Parking: There is very limited Pay and Display parking on the ground floor of the site (accessible from Cerise Road off Hanover Park). We strongly advise that you do not arrive by car if possible, but if necessary see Southwark Council?s website for more information on local parking options. This is a council owned carpark, Peckham Levels do not get free parking and cannot reserve spaces. Step free access: Step free access is available via the lifts from the ground floor and our helpful security will be able to assist should you experience any issues. You can reach them on 07961240465." -
Looking for Classical Lunchtime Concerts in South London.

Would Greenwich be too far ? St Alfeges https://www.st-alfege.org/Groups/299337/Concerts_and_recitals.aspx have lunch time concerts (free) every Thursday .Their accesibilty statement ( not sure if this covers the concerts ? ) says "Parking There is no public parking at St Alfege Church but it is possible for those requiring disability access to arrange a day permit via the office." Parking There is no public parking available in the churchyard but on street parking using meters is nearby. There are two public car parks nearby: Burney Street SE10, 8EX Cutty Sark Gardens, SE10 9HT " Ramp access There is currently a ramp which is steep to access the south entrance. Wheelchair users will need assistance. There are five steps at the main west entrance, so people using walking aids or pushing a buggy may find it easier to use the ramp. Please let the church welcomers or Open Church volunteers know to ensure the south door is open. " -
rollflick thank you for that detailed and helpful post . And for being so measured ! I have nothing useful to add ,I objected years ago to the Adys Rd proposal .And also to the shared cycle way past Boots in Rye Lane . I'm not one for criticising Southwark but am increasingly finding reasons to do so - their approach to cycle ways is madness and insulting . I hope the legal challenge is succesful .
-
If you live outside the zone and are worried that the CPZ will result in increased parking in your street buying a permit is unlikely to help as it won't guarantee a space . And the hope of parking in the zone will increasingly fade if the permits were sold to a wider public .

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
intexasatthe moment replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James I'm sure you're busy with the start of a new term ( I have no idea how you find any time to teach and do this ) but ....regarding diverted HGV etc because of Barry Rd works ,can you suggest what we could do/who we could contact ? I'm not clear how long the works will last ,Thames Water sign says January but I think bust stops say October . ": Vehicles on diversion new Posted by drunkmonk74 Today, 09:41AM I live on Kelmore Grove and twice now I've had to come out to move my car and motorbike to help large articulated lorries get through. Thanksfully I was at home and could help, otherwise I've no idea how they would have sorted themselves out. One time I only realised there was an issue as the lorry set off the alarm on my motorbike and I rushed out thinking someone was stealing it in the middle of the day. This is a serious issue, and to be honest, if it continues it will only be a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt, at which point something will be done, but by then it will be too late. I understand that road works/utility works need to happen, however someone should have taken the time to understand the types of vehicles that travel down Barry Road, before simply diverting all that traffic through narrow residential roads." -
Lordship Lane Estate in the 1950's
intexasatthe moment replied to Strollers2's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Times have changed "At some stage, the pub was acquired by the Courage Brewery who rebuilt it in 1924 and renamed it the Grove Hotel. The Tudor style of house was taken as the pattern for the rebuilding of many of their pubs and the Grove Tavern the first to be rebuilt in this style. "This house with its gardens, bowling green, garden bar and band stand, a dancing rink and hard courts for tennis, is considered one of the most modern houses in the south of London, and is delightful inside, with its tea and saloon lounges, and other up-to-date appointments." http://www.exploringsouthwark.co.uk/bews-corner/4587659588 -

philosophie if you want a discussion about whether ppl should have polarised views or not you should probably start a thread in The Lounge . This section is for ED specific issues . -

Lovely display which I enjoyed BUT agree advance notice should have been given . Friend from Bristol staying with me at moment ,she lives near Clifton College and says that similar events are well publicised with ,for example , students being sent out to knock on doors in locality to advise neighbours . -
I think if you enclose it with a 10 ft wall ,access only possible via your garden and use it for about 12 years you would get ownership by adverse possesion . Would suggest you get wall built while they are out at work ,have one of those "wraps" that replicate the orginal installed to the rear of their house and they'll never notice or challenge the land grab . This lot https://graphics.cunninghamcovers.co.uk/building-wrap do stuff on the scale I think you'll need . And don't overlook the potential of air rights in your quest to improve your home .

Have you had a look at Health Unlocked ? Normally pretty helpful though of course most posts are from ppl with problems rather than those who found treatment straightforward . https://healthunlocked.com/prostate-cancer-community https://healthunlocked.com/brachytherapy -
