Gas Works down Rye Lane for 60 weeks from January 2019
intexasatthe moment replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
Thanks for reporting this PR - I had seen mention of the closure but was hoping the time scale quoted was an error ! This is going to effect so many people who catch the train and shop (and have to visit the Highshore Rd sorting office ) . Getting off the bus in Copeland Rd and walking through to Rye Lane adds quite a distance .And I wonder where the stop to catch the south bound bus back to ED will be ? I'm sure the pipes are at least 100 years old .I know I'll be feeling the same carting shopping back without the direct bus service I've enjoyed for so long . -
Anyone else out of water??

carrier bags - what do you do with yours?
intexasatthe moment replied to trinidad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Baptist Church on corner of Lordship Lane and Goodrich Rd used to take them - they host ( or used to ) a drop in session for ayslum seekers/refugees on Tuesdays and needed them for distributing clothes etc . -
They are much in need of footwear donations I believe . When I asked them about duvets they were a little divided - on the one hand v useful for ppl moving into accomodation ,on the other runs the danger of bumping up the luggage they take with them and the taxi drivers refusing to take them . Which apparently ,if too much luggage they do .

Thanks dresswaves ...I did wonder if that might be the case .

Who knows with Southwark Cyclists given that they were all in favour of that cycleway when it was proposed . -

There's a map in this link https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/dogkennelhill/ -
I think Celia Hammond on Lewisham Way take duvets ,they certainly take bedding and other cloth stuff . You might need to take a friend to run into the shop with them while you hover outside in your car .Parking can be tricky .

I don't understand how the authorities approach fixing the problem of what appears to me to be a manhole that is not level with the road surface . Or how it's decided whose responsibilty it is .Southwark ,if they maintain the road ? Thames Water if they maintain the cover ? Southwark@s on line reporting lists Broken covers as an item that can be reported ,suggesting that they take responsibilty for broken/damaged covers .Nothing about noisy ones . I had a frustrating telephone conversation yesterday which I imagine constituted an update . One of the covers I reported will be "thoroughly investigated " in the next 2 to 5 working days . I had to correct the quoted location and was unable to understand why the caller couldn't discuss the second cover that I had reported at the same time . I was told that the tarmac work to the cover opposite Mulberry Close had not been instigated by Thames Water . It all seems hopeless to me ,the cover near 161 Barry Rd has been noisy ( with brief respites ) for 12 months now .

I've been trying to resist saying I told you so but I'm caving in . There was a "consultation" about this cycleway which didn't seem v well publicsed as it seemed to mainly involve asking local shop keepers .Who I don't think had a cyclists viewpoint ,or indeed that of a pedestrian shopper . I did respond to it outlining my concerns ,one of which was that my elderly mother with restricted sight would injure herself and a cyclist . I did post on here about it with little interest shown .I was told that Southwark Cyclists had been consulted and were fully supportive of the scheme . -

Apusmo I'm not sure that a CPZ will reduce traffic .Are you thinking less vehicles looking to park and parking ? It won't reduce thru traffic will it ? And it will reduce car parking spaces so may add to rage ,congestion ,air pollution etc -

I think maybe the whole concept of a CPZ appeals to ppl who think it will guarantee them a parking space near their house in exchange for a fee, I've known friends in CPZ and their experience has been a reduction in parking spaces and a continuing difficulty in finding a space . Factor in the domino effect caused by a CPZ in one road to adjacent streets , increased complexity for parking for carers ( formal and informal ) and my own personal fear which is that CPZs encourage the turning of front gardens into hard surfaced car parking areas then it seems less of the soloution that some think . -
Easily done via https://www.thameswater.co.uk/Help-and-Advice/Report-a-problem/Report-a-problem?type=leak https://www.thameswater.co.uk/Help-and-Advice/Report-a-problem/Report-a-problem?type=leak For ppl on Barry Rd suffering from noise from the covers outside 142 ( opp Mulberry Close ) and also outside 161 the outcome of my "live chat " with TW just now is that engineers will attend within the next 24 hours and will update me by 7pm Tuesday . They say they have attended to the 161 three times since April 2018 ( I've certainly reported this one twice ) but that Barry Rd had been resurfaced and the cover on last inspection did not need attention .

Driving to the M1 from East Dulwich
intexasatthe moment replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
Thank you both very much ,relieved to know I'm not going mad . Thanks again . -
The route planner is suggesting a complicated route whereby after Marble Arch one turns left and then right threading through streets to the west of the Edgeware Rd and later joining the Marlyebone Rd . But can I just drive up the Edgeware Rd from Marble Arch ???

Umm......I hardly like to raise this and it's only my preference but does "me only " sound odd to anyone else ? Or is it only me ? -
So glad that you've been seen by someone helpful . I hope you'll go on improving and will soon be back to full health . It sounds like a perticularly nasty afflication .
