  1. Is it really so bad to have a fitness-wear shop? I'd much much rather that than a McDs or another fried chicken shop. Or is it just that it's 'another expensive' shop? What are the alternatives? What shops do we actually need that we don't have? I can get pretty much anything I need locally as it is. I'd rather attract people with the money to spend in the shops we have than have a high street full of Lidl and Poundland, Topshop and so on. Do we want to be like Lewisham (for example)? Just because SW is aimed at people who like keeping fit and have money to spend on it doesn't mean it's wrong for the area. It's just different - and a variety is good.
  2. I quite like the concept of www.fatladattheback.com (although it seems they specialise in cycling). Personally, I like swimming, but wearing the right gear for sport can make you more inclined to actually use your gym membership.... I'll definitely have a look when it opens and maybe find some inspiration. Maybe we could have a ED runners club (beginners-and-not-too-far for starters...
  3. oh, but there is science involved...it's not just pretty colours and exclusive price tags. It's about ergonomically designed clothes and all sorts of other factors.. Did you know - for example "In sport, compression clothing has been designed to improve recovery following exercise and training. A similar concept applies to the tight-fitting shirts worn by a number of the teams in the finals of the 2007 World Cup for Rugby Union, with claims of increasing energy levels through transfer of ions to the body". I quite like watching the rugby, hadn't though there was a reason for their tight tops....
  4. safe structurally? or do you mean neighbours?
  5. I read this above - "To be honest after a hard day with 2 kids I really look forward to a glass of red and a sit down and the de-stressing has to be a good thing." isn't it more "odd" to want to justify how much you can actually get away with drinking around children?
  6. Isn't it a bit odd that alcohol is such a common way to relax? It's not good for you and can't be good for your baby. Why not find other ways to relax? Is it too hard to just not drink alcohol at all? If you're asking the question, surely you know something's not right....
  7. I would also be concerned - it's measured at school anyway, so I would not welcome a home visit at all. If it were to be agreed in advance then would remove element of surprise but cold calling seems rather strange. How about it if it were a survey to measure adult blood pressure? There are enough random doot knockers as it is. Would ED welcome that?
  8. My daughter is absolutely mad about dogs and gets on really well with them. We can't have one where we live and would like to dog walk for someone locally. We're mostly free at weekends for a long walk - if anyone would like their doggy exercised and a young lady happy, please do PM me!
  9. a number of removal companies offer a short term storage solution (just google it - I put a link below for one) but I cannot vouch for reliability. I suppose their reputation is at stake and they would be responsible for any damage, just as they would if they were moving your things to a new property. http://www.pickfords.co.uk/short-term-storage#.VuPeOHrGV5o
  10. my dad's a computer geek and he installed it, absolutely hated it and struggled to revert back to previous system (and if HE struggled, then it's hard!) It's a bit of a one-way ticket, so be sure you want to go there.......
  11. I encourage my children to use dictionaries - actually helps learning rather than auto spell checking everything. I've always had one. If you're looking to free some space, maybe library, charity shop, school.....
  12. thanks Bic Basaher, but this is where I get stuck.... The page states "You can?t get written proof of Child Benefit from the Child Benefit Office." and my letter of entitlementis so old that the address is out of date :-(
  13. Hi ED parents Secondary school offer needs Child Benefit letter of entitlement, but HMRC don't send them out. How are we supposed to get around this? has anyone a solution? Thanks
  14. Also glad you are ok - but just reminds us all to be aware of what goes on around you. It's always a good idea to be aware as you're out and about. At least it was only your phone (annoying and not nice in itself) - they could have had other things in mind :-(
  15. We used to do this as kids. Just because it's disorganised (i.e. no ID and close to the actual event) doesn't mean they are not doing what they say and raising money with good heart. Ask the child to clearly state the school they are at and the details of the event they are seeking sponsorship for. I would assume the reaction / repsonse would confirm if this is honest or not.
  16. I don't believe the council are in the process of selling council property to private buyers - if anything they will sell to tenants or keep their stock to house the vulnerable.
  17. you need to report it to the police, as far as insurance goes. Is there any CCTV?
  18. no, that's just what dogs do. Issue lies with the owner - who has to teach dog expected behaviour.
  19. natural manoeuvre into the impact of eating meat on your health based on how it is produced, impact on the environment and largely hidden horrors of factory farming, as well as the Ethical stance is the new restaurant adheres to in terms of supply. Sensible organic alternatives reduce antibiotics, fat-inducing and other drugs that are commonplace in mass produced factory animals - and the circle that comes back to supply/ choices/ health/ ethics....
  20. I'll take your biscuit, and raise you a pork chop
  21. Yes - thanks - hadn't realised the implications. We're shopping for the box sets - so all above board - had not intended it to be otherwise! Warnings heeded - appreciated.
  22. why would it not be logical if it's free to view it's not free to download? @*Bob*
  23. oh....ok - understand. Thanks for advice.
  24. thanks - utorrent is good :-)
