  1. Kids live in a different world. I think you are seeking the impossible but instead need to look at what you can control. I have had an ongoing battle about phones and there is a balance. It's important our young people learn how to make good choices - and how to balance work (yes, school is HARD), sleep, eating well, sleeping well and relaxing and exercising is important. Get one element wrong and it all goes wrong. For example - too much phone activity at night disrupts sleep/ affects everything else.... For example - too much sleep affects eating properly/ school work / etc.... I think it's better they learn to balance - rather than being denied something that it now woven into life.
  2. End of March is often the end of the financial year and budgets have to be spent, or lost. Possibly this is Southwark's year end - I don't know but guessing it's the case. Any company with surplus at the end of the year - which it spends on non-critical items, is demonstrating a lack of financial acumen and poor planning of its resources.
  3. Mototrbike theft is also lucrative. The bikes in parts before you know it and it's worth more that way. I don't think Insurance companies even bother trying to trace them anymore.
  4. Great article. Really strong message from the supporters.
  5. Going out for afternoon tea is a treat - more so than going out for a local curry, which is something we do more often. The local equivalent of afternoon tea is a latte and a croissant - not my cup of tea when it comes to special occasions. I would go to F&M most probably, but we like Patisserie Valerie near St Pauls too.
  6. you posted before on here - why not revive the existing thread rather than start a new one?
  7. But there's something about the burbs that's a bit scary really. It's like a one-way ticket to premature old age. I'm ok with the overpriced coffee tbh. I love London (but not the edges)
  8. Stoat
  9. I hope the family get the support they need - sadly, you can't be too careful.
  10. If I were you, I'd be worried that I didn't wake up in the process.
  11. get in touch with Transport for London and ask them
  12. why open the door in the first place? Why not just say 'sorry, can't come to the door'
  13. It is normal in our organization for NPL to be contracted for 8 hours a day. Why don't you agree to pay for the set piece of work instead? You'll need to lay out the specifics.
  14. We have three massive bins and a small front garden. Perhaps there's too much packaging on our shopping if we all are expected to get these filled every week.
  15. More about the ghost please (the top floor - how do you know she's not a kindly spirit?)
  16. A good way to change your outlook on life is to explore. Go on weeksnds away or go to places you wouldn't normally (get on a train for a Sunday walk, go shopping in different towns etc) - you'll start to realize quite quickly, that doing new things is not as hard as you may have thought - you just need to start
  17. I actually took my daughter to a doctor as she was worried about her moods and couldn't get any context. He basically told her to eat properly, go to the gym more often and sleep properly - AND PUT HER DEVICES DOWN and that would improve everything. The mental health issues that follow lack of sleep, lack of stimulation, lack of exercise are too real.
  18. yes - and I almost wish I hadn't. I have to continually go on about restricting its use and the effect it has on sleep (SO easy to just keep chatting to friends). My girls are finally putting them down before bedtime and sleep is improving, with all it's positive on-effects. It has been an uphill struggle. I suppose a generation ago, parents were nagging their kids about TV, but this is much more consuming - exposure to marketing/ media/ fake photos and bad body images. Sites explored by my girls/ their friends include suicide sites(that's really popular among teens, btw as a boredom-buster but sadly too attractive); eating disorder sites; porn (yes - of the joys)... They are not just snap-chatting, as if that's not bad enough. Kids need mental stimulation in order to develop their brains - literally. Killing time by social media is NOT going to achieve that.
  19. Intersting to know the current footfall, rather than something dated 2.5 years ago. Is updated information available please, James?
