  1. I presume you don't actually HAVE to travel each day? I had a woman almost sitting on my lap, such was her assumption that she could take up half of my seat as well and that I had failed to make enough space for her and needed some kind of punishment to teach me the error of my ways. I'm just thankful that I am not her and do not have to live with her attitude. And I hope it made her feel empowered, because I can't imagine what else she got out of it (although I did smell rather divine and maybe she thought it would rub off)
  2. I really like this approach - PETA collect unwanted fur (mainly donated after educational campaigns) and give them to the homeless "Donating unwanted furs that have been marked with red paint to homeless people not only helps needy people keep warm, it also allows us to counteract reports of a ?fur comeback? by showcasing that we are receiving more donations of fur than ever before from people appalled at the cruelty involved in fur ranching and trapping. In media interviews resulting from fur giveaways, we are able to point out that, even after using hundreds of furs in educational displays, dumping them at museums and outside furriers? stores, painting them for floats, dragging them through the streets, burying and burning them, and even donating them to wildlife rehabilitators for use as animal bedding, we still have plenty of coats left over. Fur giveaways also counteract furriers? efforts to portray fur as ?upscale,? ?chic,? or a status symbol; rather, the overwhelming influx of fur into our office means that fur has hit rock bottom." It would be worth knowing how many people who buy fur know the truth behind the marketing.
  3. Why not call the department and have a chat. the main concern would be that the ceiling would have to be build to support additional weight, rather than just the roofing - you wouldn't want to fall through. And there would no doubt be safety issues. And the neighbours might get a say.
  4. Maybe PETA are very clear where they stand but I wouldn't go so far to say that you are either vegan or on their 'wrong side'. In fact, there's nothing wrong with making informed decisions (like the OP) or being vegan. Either of which are preferable to being willfully ignorant about the suffering behind the closed doors of a number of companies/ industries. I would rather be able to criticise an organisation for being vegan than not having anyone seek to provide information and reduce animal cruelty. And since veganism is getting quite on trend, it wouldn't surprise me much to have a vegan restaurant on LL. Oh, maybe on second thoughts....
  5. are Angharad and OP same person? police accompanying an ambulance is not unusual. don't worry - if it was a murder you would have seen the yellow 'do not enter' barriers. Ergo, it's not relevant to you. maybe for another time, in the spirit of community and all that, you might venture out and get to know who your neighbours are and then be genuinely concerned for their wellbeing, rather than being concerned you've missed something exciting.
  6. Sadly, I think you'll find the fur is real nonetheless. You can get fake fur that looks very realistic, but generally it's not supposed to.
  7. I don't think they're fake brand. It reflects the scale of the problem. There is lots of fake fur available, which is a good thing.
  8. PETA do a lot of work re educating people about the cruelty behind Canada Goose costs - google it. There's lots of events and public information. It's sickening. https://www.peta.org.uk/action/spread-word-canada-goose-cruelty/ I'm really glad to hear of the decision you made today.
  9. We've had people collecting money, Jehovah's Witness (and not our neighbourly ones who we talk to as they are next door), selling flowers, selling superpacked food (he was persistant), strangers asking for money so they can get home, some guys saying they will help me fix my roof (they weren't planning on leaving easily either), one woman asking if she can take the things from my front garden (FFS - oh no, she didn't ask, but I asked her).... and so on. So, no. I don't answer the door and I won't let my kids either. Why should they have to deal with that? Quite happy to find out who they are and what they want. I know who my neighbours are when they come visiting so - no. what's wrong with that?
  10. we don't open the door to strangers - it rarely is good
  11. Don't underestimate the softer skills (sorry, office speak) that you will have been using - basically, you've been running a successful business and the reason to an employer that you're changing direction would be - commitment, stability, want to train/learn/ climb career ladder etc.... Have a look at this ad - this focusses on the same sort of thing. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?28,1897655 You're only 27? And you've run a business (small or not) and got kids etc. - you've been busy and the responsibility you show would be very attractive to an employer.....
  12. moving is generally good for you. resting is as well. it's a balance.
  13. the most un-community support group I have come across.
  14. I don't mind people going through my bins but I would object to leaving the rubbish all over the floor. That's just plain rude.
  15. the services know about him, know about the fire, know he doesn't want help - is their professional decision to leave him as is?
  16. I had a card from the postman, went to collect it from Silvester Rod and told they couldn't find it. Going to try again tomorrow, but not best pleased.
  17. wanting to help someone is admirable - finding the best way is a challenge - talking about them is a bit of invasion of privacy, don't you think? And I'm not referring to any particular post but the whole post - perhaps someone who talks to him might mention there's a forum where he's discussed. Maybe he'd be flattered, maybe he wouldn't care. Personally, I wouldn't like it.
  18. 37 to Brixton and then direct on the tube
