  1. Well done to everyone involved in this. As said above this really is good news for those at the school and also for East Dulwich as a whole. Hopefully now next year parents living in the surrounding roads will happily put GG as their top prefernce on those applications.
  2. Whore of Babylon, Rosie - I just think you have good judgment.
  3. Stevie G post match interview. "We're all getting behind the keeper..." If only ONE of them had.
  4. Interesting - three threads for the price of one. There's the "he said, she said." one between Rosie and Lady, The "he said, she said." one between Hal and Huge. And there's the lovely little cameo with "Bob" and LB offering Prosecco and Jenny.
  5. Best drummers - John Bonham, Lars Ulrich, Keith Moon? You people obviously haven't seen in action.
  6. Are we on course for the English Language to take over the world? And would it be a good thing?
  7. I saw Iggy Pop at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park circa '81. He made his entrance by sliding down a rope, barechested, through clouds of dry ice. What a hero.
  8. I think those are the first couple of lines from a a lesser known, never published Dickens novel...
  9. Shock horror, hold the front page - I bought a CD the other day; Tracey Thorn's "Love and its Opposite". So far, sounds promising.
  10. Lips, with tongue Rosie? The path of true love indeed. Alas I don't like Glee either. Washing up?
  11. Yes, good to meet everyone last night for drinks and chat - will certainly be up for it next time too...
  12. Saw the Elephants in Green Park (and Berkeley Square etc) today on a trip up West. Another pleasant a free day out is a trip to Tate Britain. You can spend a couple of hours in there before moving to a lovely little playground nearby with a sandpit. Here Get the 185 from Lordship Lane and get off on north side of Vauxhall Bridge.
  13. "You Choose" is pretty special - a properly interactive book.
  14. I will be there Saturday. Think I know some who turned up at the last drinks. But look forward to meeting everyone.
  15. So what poor soldier pulled the short straw to "lead" that landing party?
  16. Easy when you never are sober...
  17. Pavilion Cafe in Dulwich Park do parties. Very good too.. But then if it is at this time of year, why not simply go for a picnic in the park?
  18. Because it was Pickle's suggestion, you should do the Saturday, the 5th. I can't now make Friday 4th any more: I'll try to get to the next one.
  19. Yep, it is looking good - we keep going past and seeing it gradually taking shape. Hope it gets done sometime before my kids grow up.
  20. I would love to come along - but can't do the Saturday (though the Sat is actually the 5th!). Since it was your call any chance of Friday 4th, Pickle?
  21. I'm getting very similar feelings with our second, quids, because he too is a "last one". Every time he does a "first" I get elated, but then a little glum in the knowledge I will never experience it again.
  22. Don't get me wrong, Plimsoul, I am like you too; I've preferred my kids since they have developed through the infant stages into toddlerhood and beyond. Language development and the associated whackiness you describe are my bag too. I guess God got this right - that babyhood lasts for less time than toddlerhood which lasts for less time than childhood. But there were so many little cherished moments in that babyhood phase I'm glad I was blessed enough to enjoy it.

    The Shard

Thanks for the fantastic photos Mr Fox.
  24. I think it is an inherent problem of our system that the general election ended up delivering a parliament with such a socially skewed membership. Frankly, it reflects very badly on our political system. I agree that I would like my MP "...to be an honest, intelligent, well read, socially aware, caring and committed person that understands how the Houses of Parliament works and how to wield influence in the corridors of power." I don't think it would very difficult to find 652 women in this country who fit that bill - it wouldn't be difficult to find that number of black people who would fit that bill - but I can have a guess at the reation if the country returned a parliament with a majority female or black cohort.
