  1. And I thought Crystal Clear was thus named for the clarity of his thought. Especially at half past p!ssed in the morning.

    The Ashes

There is already an Ashes Thread jke...see here
  3. Hindmans road is not exactly a busy road. It's a quiet residential street and as such one that should have a lowered speed limit. We cannot tell from the OP comments precisely what the cyclist was doing, that is a matter for conjecture and interpretation. The right for a mum to cycle with her kids is not in question. The wisdom of it may be questioned but the onus is surely on the drivers to drive safely. The title of the thread is "Drivers be aware.." Too right; drivers should drive with due care and attention at all times.
  4. Keef, have you ever read "Lord of the Flies"? Your experiment might have thrown up some interesting exchanges, some laughs and thrills but I get Admins point.
  5. Why is the ED Gossip section even being referred to as the "Main" section. This is a fair-minded forum and all sections were created equal. Some people might even consider that the Wanted, Offered section is the main one!
  6. I'd be more up for a Friday evening forum drinks followed by a family friendly one on the Saturday afternoon. RosieH - Did you really! jeez, my misinterpretation can only by accounted for by my squiffy state (though from recollection you may have been even more squiffed than I). In any case, I am charmed by your comment. Thanks.
  7. Is that one of the Transformers BBW?
  8. With the weather we've been having, MM, the whole summer already seems a tad out of kilter. Parched grass at the beginning of July?
  9. It was recorded on the Rye's cctv, though, annaj so, if you really want to know... Was very lovely to meet up with everyone last night for drinks and chat. Fine ambience in that great garden. Only sorry that being so late I wasn't around for long enough to talk to everyone. Nice to meet 'O', the interloper from Telegraph Hill Village. Many a story from a lifetime of London living; though I'm sure he was not even 30! And thanks for the passing shot RosieH; The darling thinks I post like a sixty year old. Damn!Have to youth-up my contributions. Sad that a few seem to have missed the event due to not knowing which group was the forum. That is almost certainly a first and due to the unique circumstances of the evening. CitEd
  10. *Wakes up* *notices that breakfast has been picked over* *feels like the small bear from that story*
  11. I liked the hastily written sign, scrawled in pen on lined A4, that tells us the pub has closed. It's stuck up in the window with a dog-eared bit of sellotape. As classy at the end as ever was.
  12. two weeks time - any Lunches planned locally?
  13. Charlies, I aim to be there in the evening from about 9.
  14. Of that photo, which one is he?
  15. Murray vs Roddick today......C'mon Andy!
  16. *hmmm, the aroma of, yes, almond* *spies bowl at the bar - notices a few flakes of almond husk* *someone ate all the almonds!* *ye-gods, who in all of this glorious kingdom wopuld do such a thing?* *You wouldn't eat the last Rolo, would you?*
  17. I'm certainly looking forward to going to the the new cafe - this weekend perchance; I'll check whether it's by reading my tea leaves.
  18. I love Jacks and though it is mildly irritating that it is often closed (last two Saturdays I've trailed down there on my way to the "Strip" only to find it closed due to lack of staff) I actually celebrate the fact that we have a successful cafe that is based on the "idler" business model rather than a more "the Apprentice" one.
  19. *Bob* said "I went past there last week and there were three hundred plasterers sitting outside." Later on it was three hundred plastered plasterers.
  20. Castle is on the junction of Crystle Palace and Goodrich. Best Guinness in the area according to legend.
  21. Keef, from time to time my little urchins have driven me to distration, that's for sure. Having a toddler wanting to do completely the opposite of what you want then to do is a situation that will test the most patient of people and I am not saying that I've not been fleetingly tempted to administer a little slap. But in that situation it really is better to bite your lip, count to ten (or twenty, thirty or whatever number it takes) or preferably slap yourself. Think about it. In caring and teaching a child one of the main things is consistency. If you only slap a child when things have built up to such a head that you snap, where is the consistency there? That is about your reaction, not the child's behaviour. That is not a good lesson. But if you commonly use the slap with a cool head as a result of what you consider the child's poor behaviour, then how scarey is that: you need to have a harsh word with yourself.
  22. Hey Horse, you got off lightly, mate; I was weaving in and out of the traffic on Lordship Lane today, trying to, like you, gain a few seconds in my quest for a few cans on the sun lounger, I burst through the pedestrian crossing by Iceland when it was on red, brushing the sholley of a surly OAP, before hanging a crafty right into North Cross, cutting across the path of a Taxi and virtually fleecing a couple of uber-mums with twin-prams in the process. Just as I was giving myself a smug pat on the back for my deft work, someone called after me that they would "see me next Tuesday"....
  23. I've always considered that authentic discipline is self-discipline. This comes from an internal sense of right and wrong which is learnt from observation and experience. I cannot see how slapping a child when it does something wrong can instil in that child a sense of self discipline. If it gets hurt when it does something then it might learn not to do it. But it's only a conditioned response. That is not real discipline.
  24. Clear that one up for us dear Michael since in my estimation both afternoon and evening are decidedly PM. Unless you're talking about a Private Mail drink!
  25. From the deckchair in your garden with a glass or two of Sancerre, no doubt, *Bob*, as you enjoy the fruits of your *work*.
