  1. Welcome news- will be able to buy a decent sarnie or salad for no more ??? than the current rubbish hospital shops! Whoop!
  2. When I saw the title of this post I assumed there would be hoards of tedious comments damning smokers like they have issues with morality Actually pleased to see the responses!
  3. I love this! I'm rooting for the little guy :-)
  4. ?2.25 per oyster is probably about average in a restaurant ?2.50 in Franklins, for example Menu looks simply fab and I look forward to trying :-)
  5. Well said- a deserving rant
  6. Surely V day is the same as any other days where we buy presents and send cards? Mother's day? Father's day? Christmas day (for the non Christian)? They are all days that businesses have capitalised on to make a buck and the public tends to embrace without question. And why not, there are far worse things to do in life than give your loved one a bunch of flowers and a card to remind them they are loved.....and yes, you can do that any day of the year but then you can cook a pancake or send a card to your mother on any day too! littlemissj I agree that it can be a depressing day for singles as it can make it seem as though everyone else is celebrating their gloriously successful relationships- everywhere you turn are reminders that other people are in love! It's great being in a relationship because you have the option of rejecting V day......when you are single it just is It's over now for this year and I hope someone wonderful is in your life this time next year so you can smugly tell them you don't need V day to validate how blissfully happy you are :-)
  7. I do try my best to cycle across the crossing carefully (not easy with people zig-zagging both ways both on foot and bike) and then do the sharp curve of the cycle lane to go down Rye Lane rather than cross the path....... it really is not easy at all! I find the same number of pedestrians are also on the curvy cycle path bit (either standing on the corner, walking down it or waiting to cross the road) but they are even more tricky to negotiate as I am also trying to steer round the sharp corner at the same time and have other cyclists negotiating the same spot. It seems clear that neither pedestrians or cyclists are fully responsible (despite some posters tendency to place clear blame either way) but a poorly designed area makes it difficult and dangerous for all. So if someone with some influence to initiate change on this (Renata?)could step on it, that would be most helpful!

Are you against suggestions to try and make this strip a little safer and clearer for pedestrians and cyclists? Are you a cyclist that doesn't find this road tricky/ risky maybe? There will always be cyclists and pedestrians that could take more care of course
  9. Completely agree that the fact that it is not an obvious cycle lane is part of the problem. I am not a fast cyclist (so it isn't that I need to slow down)and I take great care in this area. I find that stretch of my journey the most nerve wracking due to pedestrians stepping out in front of me. I see a lot of people stepping out without looking and often have to slam on my breaks to avoid a collision. Some of the time pedestrians don't realise I was there or have stopped due to looking the other way or at their phone! It's always worse when someone does that from in front of or behind a bus so I can't anticipate them coming. I am more than prepared to be cautious and wait but I think that the cycle lane needs to be marked out in a different colour so that pedestrians can be more aware and alert.

  11. Yep these phrases seem to be popping up all over EDF and is a current favourite go-to put down! Personally I would far rather people "virtue signal" and "tolerance flex" than be a complete ar*se. Perhaps by signalling virtue and flexing tolerance it might remind people who have a propensity to be an ar*se that they are ar*se gesturing.

It may be very hard to believe Nigello but some people are less confident than others! Perhaps a stretch for you to imagine that some people feel anxious about being boxed in on buses. Some people do worry about climbing the stairs when the bus is moving (not that easy). Many people don't like sitting at the top because of travel nausea. Some people feel too tired to haul their belongings upstairs for the sake of a short journey. Some people don't like trying to rush down the stairs before the doors close to get off. Many people don't feel to safe on the top deck for a range of reasons. I'm not saying that crowded buses aren't annoying. It would also be nice to have more 484s in operation (although, as stated, in comparison to the p4 the 484 is like some luxury service).
  13. There are more than four 484 buses an hour no?! Maybe I have been luckier with the wait times I have to admit, much as I'd like to see a few more 484 buses in the mix, I can't say they have haunted my nightmares no I think with double deckers some people opt not to take on the challenge of getting up the stairs while the bus is moving then running the gauntlet at the top, tripping over bags and men's feet/ legs (sorry guys, but you do love to spread you legs wide!)to get to a seat squeezed in the back row.......when getting off in a few stops Buses can be grim, particularly for those who are less confident
  14. Yep, the 484 can be grim.....especially at school/ commute time when it is very busy. More regular/ reliable than the p4 though!

True, but false and confusing advertising that happens regularly could ultimately mean they lose custom.... such as Sue and Lynne! Also, you are forgetting that many people shop at a charity shop because they have a very tight budget. So what might seem like quibbling over pennies to you might just be someone's limited means
  16. Camberwell sexual health clinic often has a cue of people outside who are certainly looking to be seen. People really are weird. Why would anyone want to visit an independent cheese, meat or fish shop to buy something a little special or different for the festive period?
  17. Pipe down Dog duck- you have no idea whether the police have been called and it does no harm at all to ask around and raise awareness......it's called community Dog duck Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Call the fukn police and don't create pointless > chat on here about it surely?
  18. I love a nifty, makes me feel exuberant and important
  19. Think the Herne Hill cab office mentioned might be closed? I use Uber regularly. Often use UberPool which is even cheaper (often only a fraction more than getting a few forms of public transport). If you know someone already using Uber they can send you a link to introduce you and then you'll get an introductory money off
  20. Feeling a little disagreeable today robbin?!

Interesting to note that you have assumed a class for me though..... I wonder which class you have put me in?!
  22. Yep, many good points made. I too hate the Christmas set menus and sharing platters but needs must. I have paid the service charge and wouldn't dream of not doing so. Even if the service turns out to be terrible I wouldn't ask for it to be returned. I'm too English and so I just moan about it! Just thought it was a bit of strange practice to add a tip onto my bill without telling me and before we have been served
  23. Oh no, I did hear something at just that time around Peckham Rye last night but I believe it was further down the Rye from where you describe. I was cycling on the road at the bottom end of the Rye (just coming past the Rye pub and towards the East Dul Road junction to continue up the Rye). I heard a shout/ scream and then a "F*** off!" that seemed to come from either the road on the other side of the triangle or from within the park. Not sure if it was male or female but I didn't like the sound of it. I slowed my bike and looked round but didn't see anything. May be entirely unrelated and unhelpful. So sorry to hear about your partner. Makes me feel very anxious.
  24. Just want to ask about people's views/ experiences I have made a booking for a group of friends for a Christmas get together at a bar/ restaurant (not in ED). The venue have been very specific/ rigid about the menu- they have a 'party' menu that mainly consists of shared platters. In order to make the booking I had to lay down a deposit. They then asked me to order food and pay in advance. Fair enough, I know Christmas parties can be troublesome for restaurants. What I was surprised about was when I realised they had totalled the bill incorrectly and contacted them. I was advised that the additional amount was the added service charge. Is this a regular practice to add on the service charge before there has been any service? I would always tip generously anyway but AFTER the meal!

Interesting I wouldn't go up north (or anywhere other than the wealthier southern counties for that matter) and spout these views if I were you
