Never exercised before and need advice...
matthew123 replied to ThePrincessBride's topic in The Lounge
You say your knees hurt.. well it may be you haven't got the muscle mass to take the load off the knees. I'd say see a physio before anymore jogging / fast walking - as it might be necessary to do a leg muscle strengthening program (at home) for a few weeks otherwise you risk injury and thus jacking in this whole fitness idea. -

Although if I do an edit afterwards it'll refresh otherwise like this posting it will not update front page until someone else posts after me. Going for a crazy prediction this Sunday, lots of goals at Stamford Bridge for both sides... but I think Liverpool might just sneak it 4-3..(or maybe 5-4!!) edit - hmmmm it worked first time, maybe it is fixed

It's not looking good down at Pompey with 7 straight defeats this season, and now problems with players not getting paid. It is something like 100 years since a team has avoided relegation with that kind of start and that was Liverpool. There maybe ?50m on the table but unless they're actually Pompey fans will the invester(s) release the money with likely relegation and minimal chance of a return. It's only 2 years since they won the FA Cup, and only start of last season they had a pretty strong team and looking like they were going to compete in the top 8 with Harry Redknapp as Manager. This fall from grace is in many ways worse than that of Leeds United. edit - refresh

Interesting BBC article about Liverpool It says the Carlsberg deal was worth ?14.2m per year - rather than the much believed ?7m p.a. put together by Rick Parry. It also reports one estimate of Liverpool having upto 130m fans in 16 major [commercial] markets worldwide... not sure whether 60,000 - 75,000 new stadium will now be adequate ... if the new Premiership owners have their way it won't be a 39th PL game it'll be a 'home' game in every major market... just hope they'll leave Liverpool the Big 4 and Everton matches for Anfield ;-) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8282125.stm edit - refresh

Drogba and Torres could both get hat-tricks for me this Sunday - so maybe it's just as well Cech is suspended as I reckon it could be a very high scoring match, say 4-3 to Liverpool! :) -
Either way I think we'll see these muscle injuries being repeated during course of season - the worrying thing for Owen is that it usually takes quite a few games for him to return to form by which time he on the brink of another niggly injury. I'm not an expert but I'd have thought warmer climate helps to keep your muscles supple... maybe we'll have to keep an eye on how Johnny Wilkinson shapes up in the south of France now he has departed the Newcastle Falcons edit - refresh

14c is cold enough for some - which it has been up norf. I just think over the last 8, 9 years Owen has had a lot of niggly muscle injuries which usually keep him out for 3 or 4 weeks at a time. When he was in Spain he didn't seem to suffer from such injuries and I put that down to a warmer climate. What other reason to explain Madrid being injury free but not so when he had the North Sea and Irish Sea sweeping in every day.. EDIT - so it refreshes

that is a very good question Tolly - it's a tradition at the your first drinks to wander over to the landlord give him your credit card and shout, "drinks on the house all night gov'ner", then you will be quickly encircled and welcomed to the magic circle of the edf drinks

I am not suprised Owen picked up an injury last night as that is how he spends the colder parts of the year nursing muscle injuries - it's no coincedence that whilst at Madrid he was pretty injury free in their warmer climate but not so either side of that 12 month spell. What does surprise me is that Owen started last night when he'd missed the previous day's training due to same problem that forced him off the pitch against Wolfsburg. Could it be that Capello had been told Owen would be starting and thus Ferguson felt obliged to pick Owen regardless of injury concerns?

Seems my original response to Jah never got posted properly.. Anyway, Kuyt does a job on the right flank - whereas he is too slow to run down the middle and plays with a bit more freedom when he is not expected to chip in with a strikers rate of goals.

Not a good performance by Liverpool last night. At times during first half it seemed Yossi, Aurellio and Lucas were the central midfield whilst the guy needed to put down anchor, Gerrard, was kept upfront. If the midfield is overrun then Torres and Gerrard upfront will have to feed on scraps. IMO he should have swapped Yossi and Gerrard around early in the game once the tactics proved ineffective. Maybe this will be a wake up call for Sunday at Chelsea..

Am I right in thinking the worst reception from any Premiership team given to an ex-player on his first return back was at Upton Park for Paul Ince? Which I think was 5 years after he'd departed?

Bellamy scored against Liverpool last season for City at Anfield - and he showed respect then, I'm guessing it works both ways.

Steve Bruce fumming that Darren Bent decided to pass penalty duties to a team mate after he scored first penalty... what a tit blabbering to the press when he himself is too scared to watch actual penalties being taken. Maybe Bruce is trying to sound like a hard man with a trip to Old Trafford on Saturday where of course he'll show his usual bottle when deciding his tactics for the game... 'note to self must not upset uncle fergie or will not get reference for united job in 3 years time blah blah'. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/sunderland/8277854.stm

Hmmm it's starting to look like this thread will only update if done by someone with Manc sympathies... whoever you are update the front page!! ;-)

Looking at the Champions League games this week none of them really ignite the imagination unless perhaps it's your own team. But if I had to pick out one clash as a potential thriller it would be Man United versus the German Champions Wolfsburg at Old Trafford on Wednesday. With United playing 3 days later against a confident Sunderland I suspect Fergie may put out a little bit of a squad / first team mix in CL and maybe, just maybe, could be a surprise result on the cards, and that is my big prediction of the week United to lose on Wednesday night!
-
I doubt any player in English football, since at least Ian Rush, has ever had a superior goal to minutes on pitch ratio in open play than Torres over a 2½ years spell.
-
Only 73 points Quids - 7 down on last week, damn! Someone actually had 74 (without Torres, who got me 34 pts) and looking at their team they still have Given and Barry to get them points tomorrow night! Not seen Torres that composed in front of goal - looks like he has stepped up to a brand new level. Be interesting what Chelsea have in store next week (apart from kicking him) especially since Petr Cech is suspended. Turned on Goals on Sunday this morning and to my surprise there was no Phil Brown sitting on the Sky sofa!

It updates on front page when Mick or Jah post - but not it appears for Liverpool fans..
-
Yup that's right Mick no fighting or Meeeowing! Definate problem on old On the Ball thread - Anna posted last but it still had Jah as last poster on front page... this is exactly what happened with original Football Focus thread where after a time only certain posters (maybe based on browser whatnot) were having it updated
-
Looks like the On the Ball thread has crashed with too many Football posts - or at least that seems the case since it wouldn't take my last few posts. I think we need to have Admin freeze the On the Ball thread and let battle discussion recommence.. So to start a new line of thought - will England having no real competitive matches for 9 months (since early qualification) have a detrimental effect on their World Cup? But more importantly will England warm up for World Cup with a string of meaningless fixtures against third rate teams to boost FA coffers - and trigger the media into brain washing the nation into JT returning from Africa with solid gold rather than the usual fool's gold?

"Sorry luv it's lead sprayed in gold - I might be able to give ya a tenner for it..."

cool one other concern is I want to put in some electric sockets on both sides of the partition wall - but to avoid the flexi blocks pushing up against the electric wires (which may spark a fire according to rockwool customer services) what sort of thickness do you think I can go up to if my stud partition is 3x2 (i.e. 64mm gap)?
