SP - I didn't see any quotes running with that story which usually means pure bs. @....@..... In other news, an inside source at United, who wishes to remain anonymous, has revealed... blah blah blah

I think Rio and Terry are the best English centre backs by a country mile. Now is not the time to swap horses.

I read that as well - but the fact Spain have already qualified and they were concerned enough to give him a scan suggests that they should have taken same precautions as with Puyol and Xavi and send him back to his Club for any necessary treatment. With the number of injuries he picked up on international duty last season I am bracing myself for him returning unable to play at Sunderland this Saturday.
-
Please stay on topic ;-) On another note, Rafa is now paying the price for being like a cold fish with other Managers - whilst the injured Torres and Gerrard are being kept on international duty the likes of Rooney and Xavi have been released back to their Clubs. Having said that we beat Man U last season without them and we do play better as a team without a focal point (as Man U will eventually find without Ronaldo).

I'd keep playing Ferdinand until he is totally broken - but that is from a selfish Liverpool fan ;-)

..and what would you do with your 'chainsaw' if it didn't frighten the burglar away and instead they tried walking out with your TV?

Swansea and Cardiff are in the 'English' league because when they joined up it was the "Football League of England & Wales" - similarly when the First Division was renamed the Premiership back in the early nineties should likes of Spurs & West Ham have been kicked out? ;-)

Where they showing the England game is it Vale or Hoopers? Not decided whether I'll even watch it yet as back still aching from shifting cast iron bath yesterday with plumber.

Well amongst other things it's effectively slavery - which of course is a criminal offense I guess start off speaking with your citizens advice bureau -
Sad for Barnes but the greatest footballers don't always make the grade at managerial level - but what I don't understand having waited so long for a second chance, after a similarly short spell at Celtic, was having Jason McAteer as his assistant. Nothing against McAteer but one of his nicknames at Anfield was that of Trigger (as in Only Fool's and Horses). I just hope Barnes does not try and pimp himself on Sky / ESPN / BBC in the same way we have seen with likes of Strachen and Ian Dowie in the past.

Mick, I'd like to see Ranger and Celtic join the pyramid system - perhaps come in at League 2 (old 4th Division) and let them earn their spurs. They'd be most welcome at that level because of the financial impetus to rest of division both on gate receipts and TV revenue. It's not simply a case of have Rangers and Celtic to beef up the top half of Premiership it's about giving them the opportunity to reach their full potential as football clubs just like the same opportunity as other clubs in England (plus Cardiff and Swansea). Why shouldn't Heart, Hibs also have the same crack? They're certainly bigger clubs than some such as Wigan, Blackburn - if it's all about just winning silverware then I'm sure those clubs would all have thrown in the towel shortly after inception. Why wouldn't Aberdeen want to join the English system if they can reach the golden land of the Premiership. We cannot have one rule for two, and a different for others. If it turns out that some of those invited south are not interested then so be it but at least give the opportunity... rather than risk the wrath of the EU who might decide to shut down the Premiership ;-)
-
To be honest Mick, you can't go inviting Celtic and Rangers without inviting the rest of Scottish football - the Old Firm departing for England will finish Scottish football when it is already on it's knees. Likes of Aberdeen, Hibs & Hearts would also have to be included. Maybe a full merger between English and Scottish football is for the best.

Hahaha SP - but you're right it should have been 6!

Ah thanks Doc but this'll do just fine...

Whilst the FA ask Fergie to explain his personal attack on Referee Alan Wiley (in your own time Sir Alex...) - the FA have charged Rafa with improper conduct for jokingly taking his glasses out of his pocket when asked about a Referee's performance. It does make you wonder exactly what favours are still owed United by the FA since they forced United to participate in the infamous World Club Championship held in Brazil back in 2000... It does make the stomach churn when it's one rule for one... http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=683747&sec=england&root=england&cc=5739

Has the football thread reached critical mass again?
matthew123 replied to ratty's topic in The Lounge
About 4 in every 5 of my football posts do not update Lounge front page - I've noticed similar problem with other users such as Atila today. This is what happened on last Football Focus thread when it reached such a post count - perhaps it is related to browser / settings. -
Mark, can you not jsut disable user authentication for the 2 weeks so it's effectively read only - as it may prove useful for phone numbers when people need to trawl through recommendations for various bits of plumbing, building etc etc... just a thought
-
Surely it depends who wants to sit next to you whether you move onto the window seat - there is no way anyone moves to the window seat if someone built like a rhino wants to sit down. Best keep the aisle as at least you can escape and not be crushed into a sadine tin! :))

I think if you turn it down so only you can hear it then it's no licence required - hence why pocket radio and earphones is fine - otherwise you'd be providing a service to customers in your shop which would require a licence..

Will try to make this one >:D -
I think most ppl turn up fairly smart anyway - or at least with clean clothes. Somehow though I don't see any of us guys turning up on Lordship Lane wearing a penguin suit and top hat on a friday night :))

TV games announced for December including Christmas fixtures - but it seems a little unfair. Chelsea have 2 games in 3 days, Liverpool have their 2 over 4 days and Arsenal 2 in 5 days... but I hear you ask Manchester United? Well they as is tradition get an advantage with the Xmas fixtures but this Christmas it's just the one game.. hmmmm and that is away at Hull on the 27th Dec.
