Saudi Arabia to behead and crucify paedophile...
matthew123 replied to Alabama's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think in this particular case the Saudis are right on all counts. -
Have to wait and see what happens but I am a lot more positive after last night's performance. I think it makes a big difference the style of football when you don't have Jamie Carragher hoofing the ball back to the opposition - plus it allows the midfield to push further forward and sustain the attacks as at times last night it was wave after wave.

Apart from cut & paste I am actually speechless on that one.. ::o Anyway Mick, as far as 6-0-6 is concerned tell me a time they don't load it with fans moaning about their club.

Ha ha ha - no we're just mentally weak although Johnson had a stormer, "look Dirk I'm doing you're fooking job again"

In regard the dive I thought it was very brave of the ESPN pundits to jump on their high horses over N'gog as I get the feeling if it had been Steven Gerrard or Wayne Rooney they'd have been squirming for excuses! I was half expecting Ray Stubbs to suggest N'gog be put on a slow boat back to France then burnt at the stake with a disgusted Cristiano Ronaldo lighting the match...

Tbh I don't really give a monkey's about finishing in top 4 if we are not winning title because as Bill Shankly said: "I remember seeing an American gangster film, and one of the characters said, 'Foist is foist and second is nut'n.' Then he took his gun and shot a bloke. Not many can be first in football." On that note Shankly's autobiography has been re-released for those interested in the great man.

Dear Deirdre - think my friend's trying to rip me off
matthew123 replied to RosieH's topic in The Lounge
Play her at her own game. Say you'd rang restaurant beforehand and paid the ?30 over phone and leave it at that. If she comes back on it stick to your story. -
Disappointing result but happy with the Liverpool performance. I thought it was a penalty on first sight but clearly a terrible dive by N'gog but then again that was never a free kick for their first goal. At least Liverpool played football tonight and was a great game to watch on TV.

Oh I negotiated a EUR/GBP rate of 0.8 last Thursday ;-) There'll come a point where US or Euro zone rates will be increased and I don't see how the UK cannot follow suit - to do otherwise will cripple the Pound and if so the best place to invest would be in London property as those exchange rates will make London prices a lot more attractive to the foreign investor.

Is the N-word necessarily racist?
matthew123 replied to silverfox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As like many nouns it's usage has changed over the years, and in Britain, imo, it is racist regardless of who is using the word. You should be equally as outraged hearing the term blind as you are to discovering it's being used by a Black man. Same applies to all derogatory terms. -
You might be able to do that even quicker Sean if you were able to walk to Herne Hill or Peckham Rye station

Well let's hope Rafa treats it like a Cup match then ;-) I think the win you are referring to included the memorable diving header by Harry Kewell at the Kop end in a game that Robbie Savage gave the Blues the lead after about 2 mins?

Mick, you are jumping on the media frenzied bandwagon if you think Liverpool are going to dispense with Rafa Benitez mid-season. Be interesting to see line-up tomorrow night but I suspect it will be very attack minded - expect to see some quality football especially from the back! If you like a bet put it on Liverpool to hit between 4 and 7 goals (don't forget my 6/7 goal Hull prediction before you chuckle!)

Either get the Bus (number 12) from Barry Road (I assume you're closer to that than Peckham Rye after you mentioned Lordship Lane) direct to Peckham Rye station, then direct train to Blackfriars. OR From Lordship Lane get the Bus (176, 40, 185) direct to Denmark Hill station, then direct train to Blackfriars.

If LA Galazy win the MLS Playoffs prepare for an American reporter to ask David Beckham, 'What is it like to be World Champions..'

No Mick, Tony Mowbray is your Manager not ours! ;-) As for Steve Nicol, every ex-teammate has an anecdote about him being a dimwit so that is a non runner.

Title is quite open this season but Arsenal will have their inevitable injury problems to slow them down such is the price of having a team stacked with the physically weak. Watched some of the Arsenal game last night, and Wolves have obviously narrowed their pitch to make up for having a shite manager, but why don't they go the whole hog and water log it as well?

The BBC should be horse whipped for putting together that bumbling panel led by Jack Straw*. Instead of putting the BNP on the spot the whole frenzy and hysteria of audience and panel ultimately let Griffin off the hook. * If Jack Straw is one of the elite no wonder Tony Blair ran government like a dictatorship.

I spoke to a lot of people in Lyon and everyone agreed that Liverpool's problem is cautious football. Injuries and lack of money does not help but what we can do to help ourselves is to play with more adventure - and part of that contract is not playing just one up front and having two holding midfielders. On another note it was nice of Rafa to think of Torres welfare by bringing him off after an hour at Fulham but I've not yet read the reason to how he was able play almost 90 minutes against Lyon. Hmmm yes answers on a postcard. One win in 8 says to me that the Manager has to take at least some of the responsibility for recent results, I think it has to be recognised that bad luck and ill fortune is not entirely to blame. Before anyone asks should Rafa be sacked, I still have faith, I just hope going forward Rafa trusts the Red shirt more to those with talent than his stable of workhorses.

It's probably more a result of all those years speaking German since a schoolboy - than listening to Paul Scholes every day after training :))

What it comes down to is a Rich / Poor divide - you see this localised all over the country. North / South is just a lazy tabloid grabbing headline - but of course no one is interested to hear that Yorkshire snobs looks down on those in the London slums. As for Prescott, I think he is more a rabble rouser than someone who was ever fit to lead.
-
The only thing Rafa owes that chump is a drop kick :) FA weren't interested in Warnock - wouldn't have made any headlines. If anything they only gave Rafa a slap on the wrists, besides the fact he should never have been charged, because it means they don't have to take the hardline on Ferguson and can thus avoid the fallout from all his cronies in the media.
-
I guess they do it at every Club when they can smell blood - I am sure Spurs, Arsenal fans for instance also feel there is sometimes a vendetta against them as well. Best way to deal with it is like Ferguson and just ban the journalists who don't follow the party line from the news conferences or even particular newspapers which he has done in the past.
-
They may as well have also said 'Rafa may have drank a bottle of whiskey for his breakfast' - absolutely no quotes. The Telegraph might dress it up a bit but still no quotes from anyone at Anfield let alone Rafa. They could easily have finished story with, 'it is believed in some quarters that Ferguson was enraged when he may have heard Rooney had broken a toe nail and the FA may have shuffled him back to Old Trafford a.s.a.p. before being engulfed by another political storm with Ferguson'.
