  1. I asked for thoughts about the scheme and specifically how it would affect the local area but as usual the bicycle community have to get on board about things even though they are usually the last ones to reach their destination on time. Walking into the area is best if you live in the catchment area. Bessemer Grange has expanded into a very large primary school in recent years and so there have been parents bringing in their children from far and wide and mostly by car, some just around the corner in the car. The yellow barriers have been put up outside the three street entrances onto Bessemer (since last Sept/Oct) in term time but with no consultation with the local neighbourhood.
  2. Seems like this scheme that was initiated last September has already been given the go ahead in Southwark - Bessemer Grange Primary School being the first in the pilot. Local people in the neighbourhood were not consulted and there have been effects in the local area. It now seems there will be another one being introduced in Robert Browning Primary in Walworth as per the councillor in a photo in the Southwark News last week. Any thoughts about this and about how it will affect local areas?
  3. Looks like this is going ahead. Seen the notices on the lamp posts leading from Wanley Road and the public notice in the Southwark News on Thursday. Champion Hill Junction 'no entry' Experimental Traffic Order.
  4. Yes, very bonkers! But the OP did go up to a member of staff to report what was going on but was met with complacency by the co-op workers.
  5. My thoughts too Sue. I wouldn't have the audacity to pop down to the DKH Sainsburys and start filling up my recycleable bag (and I have lots of them) without being approached by somebody in authority. Trouble is they seem very complacent and just seem to wave people by if the alarm goes off etc. The DKH Sainsburys must have lost thousands of pounds over the Christmas and New Year period.
  6. Maybe Prince Philip was in the area today? One law for some but not for others.

  8. Can't be bothered to open the link but still think that cyclists are a nightmare.
  9. Trinidad, I think you will find that most of the children's centres in Southwark and surrounding areas have been closed down.
  10. Cyclists are a nightmare and especially if they're wearing dark clothing and no lights on their bikes at all. Would agree with the OP and that the lady is really daft!
  11. I'm glad you have reported this incident to your daughter's school.
  12. But visitors to CPZ areas can park outside the hours. So if the area has a 12-2pm zone any visitors can park before 12 and after 2pm for free and also on Saturdays and Sundays.

Yes, a lot of cars being parked in East Dulwich are probably being left by people in other boroughs and beyond (a lot from outside London) and of course they will disappear once a CPZ introduced.
  14. What a scumbag and thanks for alerting us to this man. Let's hope that the police can deal with this. You say in your post that your daughter is 15? Was she in her lunch break at a secondary school?

  17. Or maybe Sainsburys have discovered that most of their cleaning products, shower gels, wipes, bleach, bathroom, kitchen cleaning products (more or less everything on the list) can be bought in the local pound shops at cheaper prices so they are now 'locked down' for however long?
  18. Not sure what being a teacher is (or was a teacher) in concern to bacon sandwiches Joeleg?
  19. So sorry about your cat and how she met her end. I would feel the same if I knew one of mine had suffered this way and it's made me very upset. I can't help feeling that the stranger you mention, who saw what happened, didn't do more to help?
  20. Some fruit and veg have gone up i.e. a large cucumber before Christmas was 60p and it's now 65p. Pot of original houmous was ?1 and it's now ?1.35. Pack of fish which was always a fixed price has gone up 20p. Noticed lots of other bits but can't remember prices before Christmas.
  21. After Christmas and the New Year and Sainsburys have a sign all around the store about 'Price lockdown' but a lot of their stuff has increased in price since before Christmas. Anybody else noticed this?
  22. David is a hard act to follow but can't wait to see Fiona tonight!
  23. Southwark do post out permits to residents in CPZs but as long as you've done it all on-line there really is no need to display the permit. I don't. We've had a CPZ for nearly two years and talking to the people who whizz about checking on vehicles, it's all done on-line and they get to know after a while who are residents, visitors, etc.
  24. Yes, was there on the 21st with queues going into the car park, shopping and out again over two hours so will see if I get a ticket! Luckily I still have the receipt. Not like Morrisons car park at Camberwell where I've had a word with the manager about things but will start another thread on here sometime!
  25. I've always had a great service from the Royal Mail and find it quite astonishing that you are blaming a member of their staff for faking a signature! I ordered something to be delivered last week from a delivery company but it wasn't. They sent me a dark photo of the parcel being put through my letterbox one evening when I knew I was in. Turns out they put it through next doors letterbox but they were away and I've just got it.
