NITS- How do you get rid of them...
FatherJack replied to echo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have tried everything apart from insecticide or chemical based applications......I've even tried the "thing" you attach to your hoover to suck the critters off the hair shaft! Don't bother with that one, but I was desperate........ Nitty Gritty combs have been my salvation, it's all about conditioning and combing for me, it's a chore but it's got to be done.....and you can get the comb/s on prescription from your GP! You will need one for each child/adult. -
Man at front door asking if I want windows cleaned?

Appreciate what you say Penguin and he was only offering to do front of house but windows and paint work for three storys......less than minimum wage! And couldn't agree more, only pay after job completed. -
Man at front door asking if I want windows cleaned?
FatherJack replied to cate's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just had this guy call offering to do all my windows and paintwork for ?20, a too good to be true price and I said no. He tried to be persistant but NO!!! He's white, late 40's/early 50's and today was wearing a blue sweatshirt with a Poppy pinned to it. It's vague as he was backing down the path away from my barking dogs. Very very chatty and is apparently working on a house a couple of door down the Grove. -

Any problems I've ever had with John Lewis/Peter Jones were always addressed to my satisfaction, I've never a bad experience in the school uniform/shoes department. When did you order uniform??

A first edition book signed by the author, check out Hatchards Piccadilly as they often have a good selection. You never know choose the right book and it could turn out to be an investment for those future uni fees! -

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
FatherJack replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Over the past few months I have been offered the most absurd advice by Southwark Education Services. Admittedly these conversations have been over the phone, when they take the call they describe themselves as Southwark Education services so I assume they have the knowledge to answer my questions. In March one person told me "I had until the 31st August to appeal my school offer" INCORRECT Yesterday whilst preparing for an appeal I called many LA's to see if they had a school that offered school places using the random allocation system. When I called Southwark they "no" and he even referred my call to a manager who also said "no". Again this information is INCORRECT. This department is supposed to provide support to parents by giving the correct information, is there anything you can do to highlight this problem within Southwark as I am certain I'm not the only one to get duff information from them! -
Give A Hand LTD NOT a "Charity" Clothing Collection
FatherJack replied to FatherJack's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Aha, Vik!! Please tell how did you find that out ?? -
Just had a leaflet through the door from Give a Hand LTD (Company registration number 7607124) offering to collect unwanted clothing etc. There is no mention on leaflet of this being a charity and there is no website, just a gmail email address. My donations will help people in need in the UK, Europe and Africa. My gut feeling is that this is a scam, does anyone know how I might check out the reg number? Have tried Google but no luck, or has anyone heard of this company? Edited the subject line as I now think it's fair to say that this company is not helping people in the UK, Europe and Africa.

Renata "do you need some assistance" It seems that many parents do, the assistance/advice offered is the same whether it be Renata, James or LA...... Renata/James?Southwark "I would suggest that parents/carers to accept their offers even if they are unhappy with their offer". smb12 "Its all very easy to say accept what you are given and then wait to see what happens in the shakedown, but when its your child that has been given a school miles away and that doesnt have a very good reputation, then it becomes hugely stressful". Applicable to primary and secondary applications. And I will say this for the last time......IF we all accept what we are given WHAT on earth is there to shake up or down??? School PREFERENCE.......that would be laughable if it wasn't such a serious topic!

Successful appeals at Kingsdale School
FatherJack replied to Worrywart's topic in The Family Room Discussion
WW Sure, but my point and perhaps the appeal panels may be that you have been offered a school of preference, which I'm assuming can cater for your child's needs as you put it on application, and you will have to provide evidence as to Kingsdale provision over X School, and as Kingsdale LSU were not convinced.... it just seems like a tough one to me. -
Successful appeals at Kingsdale School
FatherJack replied to Worrywart's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am not aware of successful appeals to any school, but when appealing does the panel take into consideration the school you were offered? If so and it was a school on your original application, surely that makes the appeal difficult as you are appealing for preference not provision. Given that a number of Southwark children did not receive any school, and many more were offered a school that did not feature on their application this will probably be a very difficult year to appeal to Kingsdale. -

Anyone seen the lost unicorn signs in Melford Rd?
FatherJack replied to Fuschia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ahhh haven't seen that, thanks for posting that made me smile!!! -
Perhaps Kingsdale do not divulge (quite rightly IMO) every incident to parents until a full and proper investigation has taken place and there is a case to answer. And at such time the parents who should be informed are those directly involved. Do we really want/need to know EVERYTHING that happens in/out of schools? At the Harris Parents Forum it was on their agenda and I'm sure they had reason for this, perhaps it may appear on the next Kingsdale Parents Forum if necessary. Debi, you are quite clearly passionate about Kingsdale and very supportive of the school but this doesn't mean that Kingsdale tell you all you want to know, especially if it doesn't involve your children directly.
