  1. Hi from rural Somerset!
  2. Some people seem to need to vent on every subject under the sun.
  3. I lecture at the War College at Leavenworth twice a year. Those who attended in November all have a similar outlook. Within six months of drawdown Iraq will be in the midst of a Civil War. And as for the US playing World policeman a senior US Marine Colonel, I previously served alongside holds the view that the myth of US military hegemony died in the rubble of the Battle of Fallujah and I cannot make him wrong

Firstly,if the motives you ascribe to Blair and Bush are correct then they are culpable under international law for war crimes. Secondly, there is also no such thing as pre-emptive self defence. Article 51 sets out the one clear exception to the general prohibition on the unilateral use of force. In fact, States may only use force in self-defence against an actual armed attack. This is the authoritative interpretation of Article 51 by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Of course, there are still questions concerning when an armed attack ?begins? for purposes of the right of self-defence. Since 9/11 there have been some clarification on this issue by the Security Council. It is quite clear that an attack must be underway or must have already occurred in order to trigger the right of unilateral self-defence. Any earlier response requires the approval of the Security Council. There is no self-appointed right to attack another state because of fear that the state is making plans or developing weapons usable in a hypothetical campaign. It is clear that there was no actionable intelligence on WMD. So in either instance the invasion was illegal under International Law.

Ah projection as a defensive tactic In the specific case we are discussing it is quite clear that a direct lack of parental supervision or provision of a suitable alternative lead to whatever occurred The buck stops with them If they were personally involved in the disappearance, I have a view. However, I have not seen enough evidence to conclude with reasonable certainty either way the level of their involvement
  6. Personally, I think the parents were directly responsible for whatever happened to their child. That kind of sums it up.

No you bring it down via the ballot obx in a democracy...
  12. What I took from university was the ability to learn, churn and regurgitate information in a format which I was able to make subjective judgements about, to present them and defend them if necessary. I did English and History as a double. It never equipped me for my military career...training and experience did that. As Plutarch said a mind is a fire to be kindled, not a vacumn to be filled.

Excellent Now if only more people could follow clear concise instructions it would make the police's job that much easier But well done you at least

  15. I have almost nothing to be grumpy about MP I have two daughters in Uni One of whom is at UCL and went to the protest As for the spiral it started with Nu Labour and governance by poll numbers and lists and we have elected more of the same So where it will end is anyones guess
  16. Sad and pathethic on behalf of the scum bags who hijack events Remarkable restraint on the part of the police The downward spiral continues
  17. Huguenot, I wish I had written that....well put!
  18. At University and there were a lot of highly emotional lecturers swanning around the place.
  19. From the CWGC Debt of Honour Section.... Nunhead (All Saints) Cemetery contains 580 Commonwealth burials of the 1914-1918 war. The majority are in three war graves plots; the United Kingdom plot (in Square 89) has 260 graves, the Australian plot (near the main entrance) has 23 and the Canadian plot (in Square 52, also containing New Zealand and South African burials) has 36. The graves in the Australian and Canadian plots are marked with individual headstones. The graves in the United Kingdom plot and the remaining war graves scattered throughout the cemetery could not be marked individually; the casualties buried in these graves are therefore commemorated by name on a Screen Wall inside the main entrance gate to the cemetery. A second Screen Wall commemorates the 110 burials of the 1939-1945 war in a further war graves plot in Square 5 and elsewhere in the cemetery whose graves could not be marked by headstones. There is also 1 Belgian burial of the 1914-1918 war and 7 Non-war Service burials commemorated here. No. of Identified Casualties: 698 I think you might be trying to push water uphill here, but good luck.

  23. I love the idea that a country could be asked to redact its own docs illegally acquired Govt depts are not Yes Minister parodies, at least not MOD The Swedes need to show a firm case for the EAW to be executable I am fairly certain no one here has access to that information And I am not the only one who seem to have made up their mind
  24. It makes him dangerous and as we are seeing the Govts of the world are closing in and closing him down. Plus he is a suspect in a rape case So hero worship might prove a little premature. And having worked in Govt service for twenty three years I know the value of maintaining confidentiality on issues.
  25. Nonsense, this chap is a dangerous nut job. He needs like any potential criminal to face justice in Sweden should he be guilty.
