  1. I live near the Grove and it took me less than 10 mins to get to the main PO on LL on the 176 on Monday. Since the shop formerly known as Costcutter took over the PO franchise, I've been going to 76 LL or WHSmith Forest Hill. It's not a major hassle, although the Forest Hill one is awful.

Red Apple is reasonably good and also do a decent selection of international newspapers too. However, IMHO, the best selection of mags in SE22 is Sainsbury's DKH.

WHSmith have closed a load of stores locally, including Peckham, Surrey Quays and Catford.
  4. I stopped using it weeks after it opened as they couldn't provide a basic service. My mother couldn't even get her pension out because they shared the float with the shop and didn't have enough money. It'll make the main PO on LL more busy as customers who use Rye Lane which is closing on Saturday, along with the sub-post office will use it. Forest Hill WHSmith may also see an increase in footfall.
  5. The P13 as you can imagine was busier than normal this weekend, but Saisnbury's was quiet without all the other buses running along DKH.
  6. Bus stop closure notices are on Grove Vale and DKH. The countdown boards are still showing the normal bus routes despite only the P13 serving part of the closed route.
  7. Southeastern and London Midland have their own management within the group and are legally separate companies.

Southeastern no longer manage DH, the current operator in charge is Thameslink/GTR. They manage all stations on the Catford Loop with the exception of Peckham Rye (Southern).
  9. While I was able to apply for a bank account online, I still had to visit the bank in person to show documentation etc. For older people like my mother, they prefer to go in branch to transfer funds between accounts as she finds online banking baffling, where as I prefer to use the online facility. There's also times when you may need to go in to ask for a new bank card etc than use the call centre.
  10. Considering Barclays is now the only bank along that part of LL (Lloyds is opposite the library), it's no surprise that they're busy, especially since HSBC closed earlier this year.
  11. Plenty of trains diverted via Tulse Hill today due to the second Forest Hill sinkhole.

It was like TfL meets > Peaky Blinders. The 176 at night uses spare buses from the 133 route which also operates out of Norwood Bus Garage. Buses used during the day have been converted to meet emissions standards, but still sound like Concorde.

The 176 got a two year extension last year to run the old buses until 2017.
  14. They could just bring back the old buses or is that too simplistic?

  16. Yes, I had the money credited to the rent account and then removed a couple of weeks later taken out of the account and sent as a cheque in the post.
  17. I'm happy with that. I won't be surprised if Sainsbury's acquire the current Vets in Peckham Rye.

I thought the plan was to add another two trains per hour on the Clapham Junction and Crystal Palace branches, this would be 20 trains per hour between Dalston Junction and Surrey Quays. New Cross and West Croydon would be left with 4 trains per hour each, Clapham Junction and Crystal Palace 6. Currently 16 trains per hour run to Dalston Junction of which 8 continue to Highbury and Islington via Forest Hill.
  19. PR and DH have direct trains to H&I on Sundays only. The reason why the through services were axed was to localise any issues, so by having all trains via Forest Hill, it only affects that line, leaving the SLL trains to run normally.
  20. Southwark News are reporting an unconfirmed stabbing.
  21. The Police have cordered off a section of the Grove Vale pavement where the newsagent, Shaun's DIY and William Hill is. I saw an ambulance take someone to Kings.
  22. There is no chance of heavy rail going ATO like the Victoria, Jubilee and Northern lines. Driver-only operation may work for the majority of journeys, yet there have been incidents where the driver hasn't seen what has happened. The Class 377 units which are largely used on Southern's mainline services have poor cameras.
  23. I could still see the work inside when the automatic doors are open during the day.
  24. Camber Sands is worth trying out. Fantastic sandy beach. M20 to J10, then the A2070 and A259.
