Recommendations For Medical Practice in ED
Bic Basher replied to KateFord's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
306 Medical Centre in LL appears to have taken on more Doctors. Last year, after the closure of the Dulwich Hospital practice, all of the surrounding practices have struggled with the increased intake. -

A very quick journey on the Overground to Hoxton. However there is no service north of Shadwell over the Easter break from Friday to Monday. -

Trains just getting worse? What can we do?
Bic Basher replied to James's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Chief - I believe the previous frequency will be > restored when London Bridge work is complete. That's correct as slots will be free at the terminating platforms as those services become part of Thameslink and move across to the through platforms, such as the Tattenham Corner services and the peak Caterham's. -

Trains just getting worse? What can we do?
Bic Basher replied to James's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James, The overhead corridor/bridge was totally unsuitable for the amount of passengers who used it. There were times, especially during delays when it'd become overcrowded to crush proportions. There was an OSI (out of station interchange) between the Southern and Southeastern platforms which passengers could use instead of the walkway. The new basement concourse under the Southern and Southeastern platforms will be a major improvement on the 1970's dank footbridge which now only remains on the Cannon St platforms. -
TfL will be undertaking resurfacing works on the South Circular in LL and London Road between The Grove and Taymount Rise in Forest Hill on Sunday to Thursday nights between 2100-0500 from next Monday 14th March for approximately six weeks. Temp traffic lights and side road closures will be enforced during each section of the work.

BT are also buying EE as well. The mobile phone side will certainly be run like Plusnet at arms length, although it's very likely broadband customers will merge with Plusnet.

Best route to Paddington Rail Station ?

KrackersMaracas Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ah yes - although you can still change from the > jubilee to the Hammersmith and City or the circle > line at Baker Street. It's a bit of a walk though. I used to change between those lines to work at Royal Oak as you have to go up the escalator, cross the Met platforms, then the footbridge to the H&C/Circle platforms. -
Rye Lane Post office in Peckham is facing closure - ACT NOW
Bic Basher replied to dbboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
dbboy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I believe the post office in Rye lane is a Crown > Office, so different from the retail shop Po's > spoken about above. It is currently, but the Rye Lane branch is destined to move inside a retail shop. Same for the other locally threatened branches in Walworth Road and Sydenham. The issue is with Rye Lane is that all the chains are closer to the existing PO on Peckham High Street, which leaves ASDA (a distinct possibility), Tesco Express or an independent store with adequate space for at least three counters. An off the ball suggestion would be for the PO to move into the UCKG church/Help Centre. They have plenty of space. -

And it's also worth noting that Post Office Ltd doesn't run all of the post offices, most are run by independent traders who receive a subsidy for operating the businesses. The preferred model is to have loss making main post offices move into existing retail outlets, such as WHSmith in Forest Hill. WHSmith has been one of the main beneficiaries of PO moves, which has certainly saved some of their retail shops. -

Bic Basher replied to dbboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The argument for closing surely is that there's already a post office in Peckham on the High Street opposite the bus station. However, despite this, losing the post office will be a big blow to that end of Rye Lane. -

Overground to Canada Water, Jubilee to Baker Street, then cross platform change to Paddington on the Bakerloo line. -

Have you got fibre or standard broadband? Fibre should be fine, while standard broadband is affected by how far you are from the exchange. The Melford Road end of Wood Vale is closer to the exchange than at FHR or by Hornimans.

Trains just getting worse? What can we do?

I'd assume when the Charing Cross platforms open as part of the blockade is where the stairs/escalators/lifts are to the basement concourse. Platforms 10-14 also have parts blocked off for this reason. -

Four trains per hour > all day and evening trains would be a dream come > true but I suspect that is also way too much to > ask for. The problem with Thameslink is there's no room for improvement on the trains on the Wimbeldon loop. Thanks to the campaign where people campaigned for a through service, rather than terminating at Blackfrairs, there's no scope for TfL to replace the services with London Overground trains, nor for Thameslink to improve the service on either the Catford loop or Wimbledon/Sutton services. When the Thameslink works finish, there will be plenty of trains at London Bridge, which will be much more than the old 4tph service, yet PR/DH and Nunhead, along with Herne Hill won't see any of the advantages bar a nice new train. Those who use those poor 'local' TL trains may find it more viable to use Southern into London Bridge, then change for Thameslink for stations such as Blackfriars and St. Pancras instead from Dec 2018. -

Bic Basher replied to James's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The interchange to Charing Cross at London Bridge returns in August. When it opens, instead of walking to the gateline, there will be escalators, stairs and a lift mid platform which takes you to the new basement concourse which will take you to the new Charing Cross platforms which have been built where Platform 8 used to be. This will be a major improvement on the old dank corridor and waiting area which would get crushed during the peaks. However, there will be no direct service to Cannon Street for 18 months when this opens. -
No. 42 bus route extension consultation
Bic Basher replied to BrandNewGuy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
sanity girl Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don't see why TFL can't extend the route as > proposed, but keep using single deckers rather > than double deckers. Demand for the 42 north of Camberwell Green is very high, it's a route that should have been given extra capacity years ago. It'll almost certainly get busier south of Kings as it becomes a local direct route to Sainsbury's. If the Red Post Hill option isn't viable, then the only solution is to either divert the route via Herne Hill or scrap the route south of Camberwell Green as I can't see TfL not going for the single decker option. -

Derwent Grove bus stop on East Dulwich Grove is a lot closer to Sainsbury's and ED station with a short walk down Melbourne Grove. Not practical for those with special needs, but it's the closest to them currently. -

The much improved interchange at London Bridge should negate the need for a direct service.
